WR Stefon Diggs, NE (2 Viewers)

Bills coach Sean McDermott said Stefon Diggs and the team are "in a real good spot".

Diggs was not on the practice field for the start of mandatory minicamp, though later reports indicated he was at the team's facility. He then showed up for practice a day later. After practice, McDermott told reporters Diggs "did everything he was asked to do". This included attending meetings and getting a physical on Monday. He then mentioned productive conversations between himself, Diggs, and GM Brandon Beane. Though there was and may still be tension between Diggs and his organization, it sounds like this story will be a non-issue going forward.

Funny how things come full circle. I remember when Mike Wallace held out of OTAs wanting a new contract and eventually left as UFA to sign a huge deal with Miami. Wallace got a lot of hate from the Pittsburgh faithful. On the contrary, the fans had major love for Antonio Brown who was on a cheap rookie contract. AB was considered the less egotistical and better prospect. I remember comparing Stefon Diggs in his rookie year to AB because they were both 5th round picks with he had that kind of upside.

Now, AB is considered the biggest diva or headcase of all wide receivers and Diggs is also getting that label.

oh, diggs... stfu.
best chance you'll ever have at a super bowl, and you're out here pissing and moaning w/ your monster salary

Report: Stefon Diggs is unhappy with his role in offense, voice in play-calling

Seems pretty insane given how many targets and how much success Diggs has had since joining the Bills. That said, Diggs has always had a reputation as a classic WR (think TO, 85, Moss) who can be temperamental. I am a little worried.

Yep but that's just who he is. The Bills knew this when they traded for him. There is a reason he went to Maryland, fell in the draft, wasn't made a long term franchise piece for the Vikings, etc.

Is it really the best chance he’ll have at a Super Bowl? Allen regressed once Daboll left for the Giants. Buffalo is on the downswing. Maybe Diggs is the NFLs version of Jimmy Butler — he can sniff out inferiority.

Yes, it is his best chance.
What other SB calibre team has cap space for a Diggs on the roster?

I don't know if they're on the downswing or not, but they're still easily a top 3, if not top 5 SB pick

I don’t know. Josh Allen regressed a lot, and Daboll turned Daniel Jones into a competent QB. Buffalo looked lost on offense far too often last year.

Its possible that Diggs discontent with the new coaching and scheme is correct, as far as what would make him the most productive for the team, even if he is not handling it in the right way.

I say this just based on what happened previously with the Vikings and how well he performed after the change of scene.

None of really know what is really going on though. Its all speculation.

Allen has regressed from his phenomenal 2020 season, but 2021 was still with Daboll. He actually did slightly better in 2022 in his first year without him, and that was while he was playing through an injured throwing elbow. The offense overall was just as good as well.

The Bills have the 3rd highest odds to win the SB this year so it's pretty clearly one of his best chances at winning. Daboll is a good coach but they're fine without him.

Agreed. The regression narrative is way off base. At least for Allen.

If you want to argue the offence regressed you could, but that was largely after the Allen injury also. Hard to tell what was “defences figuring out the OC”, what was “Allen” and what was “injury”.

It has been reported that Allen couldn’t make the short throws with the injury and that definitely shows up in how Cincy played them defensively in the playoffs.

On the Diggs point, if what is reported is accurate it is dumb on his part.

Seems like it all likely stems back to the playoff loss. Diggs was clearly pissed about the play calling and Allen's performance. I am not sure what his specific complaints were though.

Another routine Diggs year of 110-1400-10 right? Nothing to worry about right?
Honestly, I think there is upside from that.

I've got Diggs as WR3, his numbers really fell off after Allen hurt his elbow, but now that he's 100%, I wouldn't be shocked if Diggs had a career season. Diggs was on pace for 136-1861-13 prior to Allen's injury.

Allen's pre-injury pace was 5162-38 passing and 899-8 rushing. So, he was very clearly affected by the injury, and Diggs suffered a bit.

Stefon Diggs caught 10-of-13 targets for 102 yards and one touchdown in the Bills’ Week 1 loss to the Jets.

Diggs had a relatively quiet first half outside of his touchdown grab but ignited in the second, all but willing his team by himself after the break. The Bills had four possessions in the second half and one in overtime and managed just three points on those drives. With that, it was good to see Diggs garner the same high target market share that made him a consistent producer with Allen last season.

Either something is wrong with the bills offense entirely or Diggs may be the actual problem with his demands…
What is he doing? Looks like very low yards per target. Force fed? I mean does this team have a consistent wr core outside of him?
They don't. Gabe Davis can pop off, but he's ideally more of a #3 WR. Knox is the definition of mediocre, and Kincaid is a rookie TE. Everyone else is backup caliber. They would honestly make a lot of sense in a potential Jeudy trade, but its also possible they don't see this as a real problem and would rather just be patient with Kincaid.

Giants also blitz like crazy, leaving their CBs in man, so Diggs 1-1 with any CB is probably a win for Diggs more often than not.

Was surprised they didn't throw a single pass to their RBs last night. Hardy lined up in the backfield on the TD catch, but Allen didn't even look to Cook or Murray for checkdowns. Just seems really odd since Cook was effective in the first few games in the passing game.

Diggs "demanding" the ball isn't the issue. He is so much better than any other receiver they have and probably gets frustrated when their offense bogs down like it did last night. Luckily for the Bills, the Giants are so inept on offense that they got away with a win despite playing a really bad offensive game. Like most elite receivers, he seems fine with others getting as long as the offense is lighting it up but becomes agitated when they are aren't. AJ Brown did the same thing a few weeks back.

I've already pencilled in a loss with Hurts on a bye but it's getting a little ridiculous now.

How come we get so many conflicting reports do people feel like they have to jump the gun on reporting or what ? This has happened over and over this year.

First the report was Diggs did not practice then we get one he did and not only that he was removed from injury report.

Bills WR Stefon Diggs (back) did not practice Saturday but told reporters he “100%" expects to play in Week 10. 1 hour ago

Bills removed WR Stefon Diggs (back) from the injury report Saturday.
Diggs got in consecutive limited sessions on Friday and Saturday before being removed from the injury report entirely, 15 mins ago

Only a portion of practice is open to the media. They probably didn't see him out there and assumed he didn't practice but the Bills official report was he did.
