WR Sterling Shepard, TB (1 Viewer)

That one guy said:
Are people really bailing on him for random, even known late 2020 2nds?  I’m certainly not arguing for him as some great asset, but man if that’s all a guaranteed WR3 with WR2 upside costs (PPR), that seems a steal to me
I would not trade him for a late second. That is pretty much a lottery ticket that is unlikely to yield a player as good.  I would want a second round pick in the early part of the round--2.01-2.04.  He has no competition for looks and could well have a huge year.  You should be able to selll him for much more later this season.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports Sterling Shepard (thumb) is "good to go" for Week 1.

Shepard has missed time this offseason with a thumb injury, but he should see 7-10 targets Week 1 with Golden Tate suspended. Despite a healthy projected workload, Shepard has been drafted as a WR4, making him a reasonable buy even in this Giants offense. Consider Shepard a WR3 or PPR flex option for the first few weeks of the season.

Giants coach Pat Shurmur said Sterling Shepard "may dealing with a concussion."

Shepard could be placed in the concussion protocol, putting his Week 2 status in jeopardy. We should know more on his status when the Giants release their injury report Wednesday. Evan Engram and Cody Latimer would see an uptick in targets if Shepard can't get cleared.

Sterling OUT this Sunday per Schefflerrrrrrrrrrereeeer
Has to be time to drop him right? If he plays next week he's on your bench, then you get maybe a start before Tate back? Then you get the rookie QB not long after......what was I thinking drafting this guy.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol.

He's making progress, however, as Shepard was at practice Wednesday in a no-contact jersey. Shepard should have a good chance to gain clearance ahead of Sunday's Week 3 Daniel Jones debut start against the Bucs.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard is expected to clear the concussion protocol Thursday.

The return of the Giants' No. 1 WR would be much appreciated ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Buccaneers. Still, it remains unclear what rookie Daniel Jones' pass-game pecking order will look like. Shepard is fully expected to work as the offense's No. 1 WR, but he could still wind up with a fairly mundane target share behind TE Evan Engram and Saquon Barkley. All of the Giants WRs are best approached with extreme caution in this spot.

Sterling Shepard caught 7-of-9 targets for 100 yards and one score in New York's Week 3 win over the Bucs.

The last time we saw Shepard he was catching five-yard outs from Eli Manning in hopes of walking away with any impactful production. He returned to a team-high nine targets from Daniel Jones in Week 3, connecting with the rookie for a seven-yard touchdown over double coverage to bring the Giants within one score midway through the third. Jones' presence under center is enough to propel Shepard to a WR2 ranking the rest of the way. Consider him as much next week against the Redskins.

Sterling Shepard caught 5-of-10 targets for 49 yards in the Giants' Week 5 loss to the Vikings.

Shepard was on the receiving end of a lot of inaccurate passes from Daniel Jones, and it cost him at least one dozen fantasy points. Jones had Shepard downfield but overthrew him in the first half and completely missed a wide-open Shepard in the end zone later. It was a bad beat, but these are the types of plays that are left on the field with a rookie quarterback. With Golden Tate also in the mix, Shepard figures to be inconsistent moving forward. Shepard is a very risky flex option against the Patriots' tough secondary.
Watched the game, those were wide open shots Jones missed him on.

The fact that he was still one if the main red zone targets despite Tate’s return bodes well for his outlook.  Minn is a good defense and this might be his floor.  I’ll take it as a solid WR2

SNY.tv's Ralph Vacchiano reports Sterling Shepard (concussion) will reportedly be out a while.

This is Shepard's second concussion this season, so he's expected to at least miss the team's Thursday night matchup against the Patriots. Shepard's absence clears the way for Golden Tate to work as the offense's full-time slot WR, with Darius Slayton and Cody Latimer filling out 3-WR sets on the outside. None are particularly appetizing fantasy options against the Patriots' league-best secondary.

Is he a hold?  I get the upside but the risk level just shot way up to Danny Amendola concussion level.  And I have no idea how long he will be out.  What is the typical protocol for a player who suffered a 2nd concussion in less than a month?  Redraft league.

In redraft I'd guess he's a drop. Looks like he's out a few weeks and byes are coming up.

Anyone have a clue or expectations on time missed for SS with this second concussion issue? Also, holding, dropping? I was high on him even with Tate coming in but I’m just feeling I’ll be waiting 4-5 weeks with no news.

eta - I see the above comment, I guess that’s that.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) took part in individual drills at Monday's practice.

It's a good first step for Shepard, though SNY beat reporter Ralph Vacchiano cautions that he's still a "long shot" to suit up against the Cardinals in Week 7. Shepard suffered his second concussion of the season in a Week 5 loss to Minnesota. Golden Tate and Darius Slayton will continue to soak up targets in his absence. As insurance, the G-Men re-signed Bennie Fowler on Monday.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

He remains in the league's protocol. It would be wise for Shepard to sit this one out after suffering two concussions in the season's first five weeks. The Giants should be treating him carefully. If/when Shepard sits, Golden Tate and Darius Slayton should soak up the bulk of the receiver work, though Slayton will likely have to deal with Patrick Peterson's coverage outside.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports Sterling Shepard (concussion) won't be cleared for Week 7 against the Cardinals.

Shepard has practiced on a limited basis this week but hasn't been cleared for contact and remains in the league's protocol. Per Raanan, it's uncertain if he'll be ready for Week 8 against Detroit as the Giants plan to exercise the utmost caution coming off Shepard's second concussion in a four-week span. Golden Tate, Darius Slayton and Cody Latimer operated as New York's top receivers in Week 6 and we'd expect a similar configuration against the Cards in Week 7.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard (concussion) has "no doubt" he'll play again this season.

"Oh, I'll be back out on the field," Shepard told NorthJersey.com. "It's just whether it's gonna be this week or next week." Shepard insists he's been symptom-free for two weeks but remains in the league's concussion protocol and is uncertain for Sunday's game against Detroit. His return to practice as a non-contact participant was a step in the right direction but it's clear both he and the team are exercising the utmost caution following his second concussion in a four-week span. Golden Tate, Darius Slayton and Cody Latimer will continue operating as New York's starting wideouts in the interim.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Shepard was limited all last week before being ruled out for Week 7 against the Cardinals. Coach Pat Shurmur says Shepard has "pretty much been full" at practice but has yet to gain clearance from the protocol. Shepard needs to be protected from himself. He's already been concussed twice this season and has said he's not worried about the brain injuries.

Giants coach Pat Shurmur said there's a "strong possibility" WR Sterling Shepard (concussion) won't suit up Sunday against the Lions.

Golden Tate (99% snaps) and Darius Slayton (97%) worked inside of 2-WR sets last week with Shepard sidelined, while Bennie Fowler (39%) and Cody Latimer (32%) rotated as the offense's No. 3 WR. Tate has seen a fantasy-friendly average of 8.7 targets per game. Treat the NFL's most-savage touchdown celebrator as a mid-tier WR2 in this #RevengeGame as long as Shepard remains sidelined.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports Sterling Shepard (concussion) will miss Week 8 against the Lions.

Shepard got in another limited session Thursday but he remains in the league's protocol. The Giants are wisely taking things slow with Shepard, who has already suffered two concussions this year. With Shepard headed for his third straight absence, look for New York to employ some combination of Darius Slayton, Bennie Fowler and Cody Latimer on the perimeter with Golden Tate occupying his usual role as the Giants' primary slot receiver.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) has been ruled out for the Giants' Week 8 matchup against the Lions.

Expect Golden Tate and Darius Slayton to again work inside of 2-WR sets. Neither Bennie Fowler nor Cody Latimer cleared even 40% snap rates while rotating as the offense's No. 3 WR last week. The entire passing game is set up fairly well vs. the Lions' 15th-ranked defense in pass DVOA that's allowed the 12th-most PPR per game to the WR position this season.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) shed his no-contact jersey at Wednesday's practice.

The Giants play Monday night, so a practice report won't be released until Thursday, but it sounds like Shepard is trending in the right direction after missing the last two games with his second concussion of the season. Shepard's return against Dallas would give the Giants their first game with a fully healthy offensive arsenal this season.

Oct 30, 2019, 12:17 PM ET

Sterling Shepard (concussion) practiced in full Thursday.

Shepard is tentatively expected to return to the field for the first time since Week 5, though he does technically remain in the concussion protocol. The Giants' snap and target distribution at WR with each of Golden Tate and Shepard active in their lone game together was as follows: Shepard (82% snaps, 9 targets), Tate (66%, 6), Darius Slayton (65%, 5) and Cody Latimer (46%, 1). Note that Week 5 was Tate's first game back from suspension, so his reduced snaps were likely more a result of him getting back into game shape than a committee situation. Each has a tough matchup against the Cowboys' fourth-ranked defense in fewest PPR per game allowed to opposing WRs.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) has been ruled out for Monday night's game against the Cowboys.

Shepard has re-entered the concussion protocol. It's ominous news after he missed the past three weeks and was initially cleared for Monday Night Football. At this point, injured reserve could be on the table. Golden Tate will continue running as the Giants' No. 1 receiver for Week 9 and will be a solid WR2 vs. Dallas.

Nov 3, 2019, 12:37 PM ET

Sterling Shepard (concussion) is not practicing Wednesday.

He's actually in Pittsburgh meeting with a concussion specialist, similar to what Brandin Cooks did last week after suffering another concussion with the Rams. Shepard already has two brain injuries this season and should be extremely careful returning too soon. He remains week to week. With Evan Engram (foot) also hurt, Golden Tate is shaping up as an every-week WR2.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports the Giants are "seriously considering" placing Sterling Shepard on injured reserve for concussion-like symptoms.

Shepard is visiting a specialist in Pittsburgh to shed some light on his brain injury, but the Giants could opt to send him to injured reserve since he's had two concussions this season. Shepard was forced to re-enter the concussion protocol after his symptoms popped up again, so he's definitely week to week in the best-case scenario. Some Giants players reportedly have questioned if Shepard will continue playing football in general but that's just speculation for now. Vacchiano also notes a decision to send Shepard to IR "might not come for a while" since the Giants have a Week 11 bye. When Shepard is sidelined, the Giants will funnel targets to Golden Tate, Saquon Barkley, and Evan Engram (foot) while Darius Slayton operates as a low-volume deep threat.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) is out for Week 10 against the Jets.

This will be Shepard's fifth straight absence. Shepard re-entered the concussion protocol after a recurrence of symptoms late last week. With the Giants going nowhere, it might not be a bad idea for Shepard to simply pack it in and hope for better health next year. New York will continue to employ Golden Tate, Darius Slayton and Bennie Fowler in three-wide sets.

Doesn't sound like he is in any danger of going on IR
Seems like that has possibly changed now. I thought the 2nd Concussion happened so fast that they might not let him back right away even though SS was saying he was fine. Then he had a set back after clearing protocol, just think he needs to sit out a while longer.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) resumed practicing Monday.

He was seen taking part in individual drills during the open portion of Monday's practice. Shepard has missed the last five games with a concussion—his second of the season—but it appears the Giants' Week 11 bye did him some good. Shepard's presence at Monday's practice is obviously an encouraging sign, though it's unclear if he'll clear the league's protocol ahead of Sunday's game in Chicago. Golden Tate, Darius Slayton and Bennie Fowler have been working as the Giants' top pass-catchers.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) was a full participant in practice Monday.

The NFL doesn't require teams to submit specific practice designations until Wednesday for Sunday matchups, but NY Daily News' Pat Leonard reports that Shepard was a full participant on Monday. It's a great sign for his chances at returning in Week 12. Shepard would immediately replace Bennie Fowler in three-WR sets. It's unlikely that Daniel Jones will be able to consistently enable three solid fantasy WRs along with Evan Engram (foot) and Saquon Barkley, but the rookie QB at least has plenty of weapons to work with.

Sterling Shepard caught 3-of-7 targets for 40 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' Week 13 loss to the Packers.

Shepard’s touchdown came on beautifully-thrown ball from Daniel Jones into the end zone from 18 yards out after he broke free from the outside. Still, Shepard was hardly featured as the offense’s No. 1 pass-game option, as each of Saquon Barkley (7 targets), Darius Slayton (9) and Kaden Smith (8) were also plenty involved. Treat Shepard as more of an upside WR3 if Golden Tate (concussion) remains sidelined in Week 14 against the Eagles.

I’m slotting him in over Dede Westbrook for Round One.

Eli makes a world of difference here to me, they’ve got good chemistry. MNF, division rival... oh and did you catch them getting shredded in Miami last weekend? I’d actually enjoy hearing some boos rain down at The Linc.

And if he falls short, yet another reason to hate Goober.

Agree 100%. With Eli back I’m liking him more, but have been going back and forth if I should start him over Gallup. My other starters are Parker and Kupp. Pretty much set on starting them, but been having a hard time if I should trust Shepard or keep Gallup In. Currently have Shepard and just think he’s do and like I said I like him more with Eli back now. So since I have him in I suggest others playing someone else the way my season has been lol. Been the worse year for me, and I think a lot of others, this year with decisions. It’s been a really weird year that’s for sure.

Sterling Shepard caught 9-of-11 targets for 111 yards in the Giants' Week 15 win over the Dolphins.

Shepard delivered in an elite matchup. His 11 targets more than doubled Saquon Barkley, who had the second most looks on the team. It's a good sign for Shepard to dominate targets today, but it's still a crowded depth chart with Golden Tate and Darius Slayton playing well. A matchup against the Redskins makes Shepard a WR3/4 next week. It's unclear if he'll be catching passes from Eli and Daniel Jones.

Sterling Shepard caught six passes for 76 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against Washington.

Shepard got the Giants on the board with a 24-yard touchdown on the opening drive. He was left wide open on the play after the Redskins fell for a Daniel Jones pump fake. Shepard's six catches tied for the team lead, though the touchdown was his only highlight. Shepard has been trending up with 17 targets over the last two weeks. He'll be a FLEX play for a Week 17 matchup with the Eagles.

The Athletic's Dan Duggan said Giants WR Sterling Shepard has dominated opposing cornerbacks in training camp, establishing himself as the clear No. 1 wideout.

Duggan wrote the top of the team's depth chart "remains intact" with Shepard impressing throughout camp. If Shepard really is the Giants' WR1 over Golden Tate and Darius Slayton, his 11th round ADP could make him one of the season's biggest values. Curiously, Slayton is being drafted before Shepard. Shepard commanded solid target shares in the 10 games he played last year, averaging more fantasy points per game (14.2) than receivers like Odell Beckham, Jr. and Stefon Diggs.
