WR Tim Patrick, DET (1 Viewer)

Jeff Mans just now on Sirius XM "Is this even news ?" then he went on to say something like if you were drafting Tim Patrick what were you doing anyway. Then he said something like "the worst thing that can happen is your player getting injured and the next worst thing is someone you don't want getting injured so now people start looking at the players you want".

Kind of a jackass thing to say about this guy. He was called the best WR on Denver by someone.

I have 16 shares of Tim Patrick all late but it hurts in Underdog where you can't replace the guy. I thought he was a nice late round steal his over/under yards were pretty solid around the ranges of guys like E Moore and others.

That guy is always a jackass.

WR2 in Cleveland
or...
WR3 in Denver

And I always love your takes, i'm simply using this as a measuring stick. i think Moore is supreme value in this area he's listed ADP and you brought him up

Cheers Bud!

That is what I am saying if Tim Patrick and E Moore had similar yardage over/under bets on Underdog then Tim Patrick was very underrated when he was going about 6-8 rounds behind E Moore.

On DraftPikers it says Moore is like the #50+WR off the board and what I'm saying is....well what am I saying?
It seems like Elijah Moore is a shoe in value wise when you look around this area and i love Amari Cooper, nice WR1 you can grab after many others but i still think Watson can support 2 WRs rather easily in a hotly contested Division where almost every team has Playoff aspirations, it's likely Cleveland will not go quietly into the night...that's my late July take

Re-signed by the Broncos on a 1-yr deal.

So there's hope.
Why?
Respectful Q

Replying to a March post due to bump so anyone please reply- for me it's a guy that's always gotten hurt and not lived up to expectations. Why continue to be so supportive?

Patrick is #2 on the depth chart (behind Sutton) but is showing an early connection with Nix. He may well end up leading the Broncos in recpts.

With Nix at QB, there will literally be an order of magnitude more short/intermediate balls thrown in the middle of the field (vs. Wilson last year throwing check-downs, deep balls and outside the numbers). Patrick's big body (6'4" 215) allows him to work the middle like a tight end.

This was on display in the last preseason game (video below).

Of course there is always the risk of re-injury but no signs at all thus far during training camp.

If I had to find a selfish positive in this release; it's always hard to pick which of my bench players to drop early after the draft when I want to make a waiver pickup. I always worry I may be dropping a guy who I'll eventually regret letting go. At least now I have a couple leagues where I can make a free move without that worry.

So with Patrick going to the Lions, anything to see here? I grabbed him for free a few weeks ago on a team that needs depth desperately. Feels like this could be a bigger pie for him to eat, but quite a few more mouths. I suppose there's the off chance Jameson doesn't take the next step and NFL WR2 production could be available for Patrick, albeit probably 4th at best on the target totem pole.

He has performed well whenever on the field. it's that staying on the field part that has been an issue. I think he has a shot to be startable at some point this year (provided he can stay on the field). I am definitely holding him where I have him to see how the first couple week shake out. I am guessing we will find out rather quickly.

local radio is confused as they thought he was the currently 2nd best WR on the team only behind Sutton.
He was listed that way on the Broncos' preseason depth chart but talent-wise its highly subjective. Clearly Payton didn't view him that way.

Patrick was let go because his skillset was redundant with a bunch of others on the roster/practice squad (D. Vele, B. Johnson, LJ Humphrey)

Denver is also prioritizing youth as they rebuild (e.g. Mims, Franklin), and if Patrick performed well this year then they would have had to sign him long term and crowd out younger ascending talent

Makes sense. As far as Detroit goes, they lacked a true X receiver so he's probably a better fit there.

i agree about youth, but will echo the local radio... Patrick's experience and leadership would've been a benefit to Bo Nix. I like Tim for that role more than Josh Reynolds or Humphrey. Also Mims and Franklin sucked this preseason. If franklin was a 7th round pick, he'd have been cut.

I feel like Denver was trying to do Tim a favor because they could've traded him, but they let him go to choose his destination. I love him in DET and will be rooting for them and him.

Not much to see here given all the weapons Detroit can choose from, but really coming on of late. Fulfills the big bodied X role that used to belong to Josh Reynolds.
  • Week 2 33 snaps, 4 targets, 2-12|
(his first game in 3 years)
  • Week 3 34 snaps, 1 target, 1-8
  • Week 4 21 snaps, 2 targets, 2-52
  • Week 6 (first half) 3-68
came up a few inches short of having a TD

Good to see. We need this guy to fill Reynolds role.

Preparation meets opportunity

Jamo suspended two games; Kalif Raymond will take the speedy flanker role

Hard to see him or Patrick getting massive volume - I think they'll look to involve Sam LaPorta again

But between the Lions WR3/WR4, I would give Patrick an edge as the WR most likely to see an uptick in Weeks 8 (TEN) and 9 (at GB)

As the X WR & the WR3, Patrick will probably play in 11 personnel over Raymond

In other words, Kalif's role may not change much, while Tim Patrick's might expand a bit

This is the kind of analysis I've been looking for as I try to determine which inexpensive Lions receiver to go after (Tim Patrick or Kalif Raymond) during the murky Jamo situation.

Yes, a game happened since you posted this, but can we really glean much from a contest against an overmatched Titans opponent where Goff only passed 15 times?

I'm suspecting Tim Patrick is the better play for finding a Flex in redraft this season, between the two.

I concur.

Leaf has 3 TDs on the last 2 games. Expecting Patrick to get one this weekend. They try to spread the love.
Took heed of this and thought I bet an any time TD this weekend. Drinking and betting I mistakenly bet him to score the games first TD. Hoping for a happy accident. And doubled back to bet the anytime.

I don’t think Patrick has scored yet. The Lions will want to get him a tuddy. A couple weeks ago I believe Ben Johnson said they weren’t using Raymond enough and needed to utilize him more. Since then Raymond has been making big plays. I think Patrick scores this weekend because the team thinks he deserves it after all his hard work as a blocker.
