WR Tre Harris, LAC (1 Viewer)

Matt Miller
Ole Miss WR Tre Harris is my favorite Round 2 wideout in a really good class of them.

Size + speed + fluid route-running. He'll have to expand his route tree in the pros but the athletic traits are there. I see him a lot like Rashee Rice--he'll have an immediate role on slants/screens/digs

Josh Norris
Tre Harris' games are full of free space and hinge routes

so here are three targets vs Kentucky that showed something slightly different

Josh Norris
here's some 2022 Tre Harris while he was at Louisiana Tech

in a non-Ole Miss offense

I know he ran a 4.54 - but against ULM or LSU, when he's up to speed he has a real second gear to pull away from everyone

Seems like a terrific compliment to McConkey. With the new additions of Najee, Hampton, and Harris, Chargers offense could be really, really good. Not to mention Quentin Johnston could take a step forward. Should be a good run game and lots of weapons at Herbert’s disposal. Now they just need to trade for Mark Andrews.

This is QJ last yr IMO, he showed improvement last yr and this is yr 3

I'm expecting Harris to be the #4 WR as a rookie. Let's not forget they brought Mike Williams back, and he'll be healthier and has a multiple season rapport with Herbert.

With their cap space and needs, I hope the trade for a Guard and/or D lineman.

Seems like a better fit for Best Ball featuring low volume/floor with high upside.

Could have some nice smash weeks.

As an owner of Herbert and McConkey I will gladly draft him…. I loved his profile before the draft and even more now.

Charger homer here - we are starving for a dominant X after being burnt spending high draft capital on Mike Williams and QJohnson. Admittedly biased as a Herbert fan, but if Harris is as advertised he’s getting to play with an elite, top 5 in the world QB arm and a young dominant Z receiver in McConkey. Defenses will have to pick their poison, and I doubt they’ll roll safeties to Harris early in the year with the attention McConkey gets and the Harris/Hampton combo in the backfield.

All the ingredients are there for Harris to perform from day 1 IMO.

Agreed, I think the spot is beautiful.

I agree. IMO:
  • Williams will open the season as the starting X, and I expect he will keep that role for as long as he remains healthy.
  • McConkey will get most of his snaps in the slot.
  • Johnston will get most of his snaps at Z.
  • Harris will get most of his snaps behind Williams at X and behind Johnston at Z.

Harris could have more snaps than either Williams or Johnston since he will potentially be the first backup at both X and Z. But that isn't a lock... McConkey will get some snaps at Z. But I don't think he will surpass Williams or Johnston as a fantasy WR this year unless one of them gets hurt.

It is important to remember that WRs that come out of the kind of college offense Harris played in typically need time to adjust to the NFL. FWIW, in Matt Harmon's Reception Perception Prospect Profile, he indicated these as potential comps:
  • Best case: D.K. Metcalf
  • Likely: Alec Pierce
  • Worst case: Terrace Marshall
How likely is he to hit that best case? It will be interesting to see. I think his 2025 is likely to disappoint many fans from a fantasy perspective; though I think his presence will be beneficial to the rest of the offense. IMO he is more likely to break out as a fantasy player in 2026, assuming he shows enough this season that the Chargers let Williams walk next offseason.

Pretty much in full agreement. I personally felt Harris was more of a round 3 than round 2 guy (in large part because of the offense he was coming from, likely leading to a slower start) but that's a minor quibble.

I forget who made the comparison, but I recall just after the draft reading someone saying the idea was to somewhat resemble what Dallas had in 2020-2021. Bigger OL, workhorse RB, and 3 distinct pass catchers. I think the idea was McConkey=Lamb, Johnston=Cooper (as an ideal, not saying that has or is gonna happen) and Harris=Gallup, who worked more as a field stretcher/clearout.

I will say, I think Mike Williams is sort of to the Chargers WR room as Kareem Hunt is to the Chiefs RB room. "We'd prefer someone else stepped up, but we trust you if they don't"

“Rookie receiver Tre Harris showed up at a couple of different points in the practice. In the first period, he ran a smooth out route to the right side, created separation and hauled in a completion from Herbert….Harris caught a pass from Heinicke on a go route down the right sideline. The throw was into traffic, and this would have been a fun play to watch in a higher-tempo practice. Rookie safety RJ Mickens made a good read from the deep half and was in position to play the ball. Harris has some ability in contested-catch situations. We will have to wait until training camp to see that come fully to life.”

Still unsigned, odd

Only 2 second round picks have signed -- Schwesinger (CLE) and Higgins (HOU), who were the first 2 picks in the second round. Both of them received fully guaranteed contracts, which has led to other second round picks asking for guaranteed contracts. I'm sure the other 30 teams in the league are trhilled with Cleveland and Houston right now.

Los Angeles Chargers rookie second-round wide receiver Tre Harris is officially a holdout after not reporting with the rest of the team's rookies for the start of training camp, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Harris and the Chargers continue to haggle over guaranteed money in his contract. It remains to be seen when something will get worked out for the 23-year-old, but for now, he's going to miss some developmental time in camp. Harris impressed the coaching staff during OTA and minicamp workouts, though, and he has the potential to make a fantasy impact in redraft leagues in his first year in the NFL with the Bolts in 2025, even in a run-first offense. Ladd McConkey is the unquestioned WR1 for the Chargers, but Harris could be quarterback Justin Herbert's go-to deep target if Mike Williams and Quentin Johnston continue to disappoint.--Keith Hernandez

"if Mike Williams continues to disappoint" is without basis. Williams was a good player for the Chargers for years up until he tore his ACL in week 3 of the 2023 season. He played 19 games last season for the Jets and Steelers despite coming off that injury and having to adjust to two new offenses with shaky QB play, one after a midseason trade. His stats weren't great, obviously, but situation matters.

I expect Williams will open the season as the starting X receiver and will play the most snaps in that role all season if healthy. Harris has a big adjustment to make from his college offense to the NFL and has done nothing with pads on so far. Now he is missing time.

Unless Williams gets hurt, I think Harris is going to disappoint a lot of fantasy owners this season.

Not sure Williams is someone to write home about.

I didn't say he is. I said I expect he will play the most snaps at X. To put it a different way, if Williams is healthy, I expect he will play more snaps than Harris. That matters to this thread, because it suggests Harris's opportunity will be capped, which in turn suggests that he is a long shot to carry fantasy value unless Williams misses games.

If he disappointed any fantasy owners last season, they had unreasonable expectations.

I don't even feel like this bumps Harris. I already mentally wasn't counting Williams as anything. At least we can take Mike Williams out of the discussions for sure now.

if he gets signed soon and into camp, I'm bullish. If the holdout turns into some long protracted ordeal, QJ looks better and better for this year.

……or McConkey catches 125 passes and the Chargers run it 35 times a game.

Sure.

I think they'd love to run it more this year. And there's a good chance it plays out that way. They drafted Hampton 1st round, they brought in Najee. I believe they want to run the ball.

But I think we were all sitting here last year talking about how they'd run the ball so much. I don't think they drafted an explosive WR like Tre Harris because they like his blocking. I didn't expect QJ to have the season he just had. I think Tre is better than QJ by a good bit.

FBG has Tre Harris at WR59, QJ at WR61. QJ just finished as WR39 in PPR. I think if things break right for QJ, he can give you a WR4 season. We've seen him do it once. I think Harris is more naturally gifted and will do more with each opportunity. QJ averaged just over 6 targets a game last year. I think Harris can do some real damage with those. Is he going to finish top 25? No. Could he be a WR4? WR3? Maybe. And If I'm getting him at WR59--there's some real value in that.

Maybe the Chargers are able to marry the run more this year and neither guy sees those 6 chances per game. But at WR59/61, I'll take my chances.

Yeah I don't think ADP was ever really factoring in Mike Williams. Drafting Tre Harris to me is really just about is he better than QJ?
