Wynn starting? (1 Viewer)

Any Green Bay homers know the situation regarding the RBs? Is Wynn going to start and get alot of PT?

Thanks

Probably, I think Morency is dinged again. But I don't think I'd expect much against WAS. BJax is back, I think, but I don't know what that will mean for Wynn, if anything. I think Wyn gets the start, but that might not even mean majority carries.

I think a lot.

Just speculation on my part but here's my take:

Morency is being handled with kid gloves because he's still hurt. If he's able to play, I would expect to see Wynn start and Morency be the third-down RB like we saw against the Bears with Jackson inactive. If Morency can't play, I think Wynn starts with Jackson as the third-down RB.

Again, just speculation.

FWIW, from ESPN

Morency (knee) was not at practice on Thursday and head coach Mike McCarthy said he would be cautious with him, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Spin: Morency split time with DeShawn Wynn last Sunday and now it looks like Brandon Jackson will return this week. McCarthy will need to figure out how to rotate in all three running backs during the game. He might limit Morency to specific situations in order to reduce the wear and tear on his knee.

Id avoid both of them this week.

With Wells out and Spitz playing center...and now Coston is hurting at guard too. Yuck.

Thanks for the info guys. I have to start Wynn or B. Jackson because J. Lewis is hurt. I am rolling the dice with Wynn.

Thursday practice.

RB Vernand Morency (left knee) was not at practice after being limited on Wednesday. Coach Mike McCarthy said on Monday he needed to be cautious with Morency. "I think with Vernand, we have to keep just bringing him along. He's sore again today. I have to see how he feels Wednesday. Last week was the first time he took three days of practice in a row, and in hindsight he may not be ready for that. His is more of a medical issue."

Also think this is noteworthy:

After dehydrating in the first quarter against the Bears, rookie running back DeShawn Wynn is loading up on liquids during the week.

Wherever he goes, his bottle goes.

"I was drinking too much water, not enough Gatorade," Wynn said. "There's a bunch of stuff in Gatorade, I guess, and different kinds of Gatorade that give you different hydration. It's something I went through with the training staff and it should be taken care of."

I think Wynn will receive the bulk of the carries this week.

I would consider Wynn as a RB3 in standard scoring leagues this week and Morency a RB3 in PPR leagues if he plays.

Wasn't Wynn a Florida Gator?

he was looking at a PRIME day last week until missing 3 or 4 series

who cramps in the FIRST quarter?!?

i've been in the coaching business for 16 years ... multisports ... college, high school, middle school, youth ... never heard/seen that

NEVER

i mean seriously, has anyone else ever heard of that?

what'd he do, start warming up at 10am like most gamedays even though his game was at night?

Here's my take after watching all of these guys this season...

Morency and Wynn are pretty close in terms of running the ball - the biggest difference is that Morency has more burst, Wynn runs slow, I don't know what his 40 times were, but he runs slow with pads on.

Brandon Jackson looks the worst of the three. He doesn't run with authority, he's indecisive in making his cuts, and he can't block my grandma.

I would say

Wynn - because he can wear down the defense

Morency - only because he's fragile

Jackson - he kinda stinks

Im pretty sure he wasn't recruited for his academic ability ..... probably doesn't even know any of the academic buildings are. even still ... "There's a bunch of stuff in Gatorade, I guess ...". Nice! Then people wonder why athletes make stupid decisions .... because they're stupid!!!

Good grief people, ease up on the guy.

He's getting a bit more work each week. He's resolved the problem that caused him to miss part of last game. Nobody looks better than he does.

I don't know if I'd be starting him but he's certainly worth a roster spot.

From the RB thread

Green Bay Backs: Here is my little nugget of info for you. Washington allowed 12 catches to Miami RBs, Westbrook had 8, Derrick Ward had 6 too...so we need to hook into the GB Back that is likely to catch passes.

Vernand Morency: He had 7 targets last week. Brandon Jackson had 15 his 1st 3 weeks, and DeShawn Wynn has been fairly limited. Now Morency did not practice on Thrursday, if he can’t go and Brandon Jackson is healthy, I look for Jackson to be the sneaky play based on the match up. The Skins are not going to get run all over so I expect GB to take to the air.

Friday update from RotoWorld. This matches up with my speculation in this thread:

Vernand Morency (knee) is listed as probable for Week 6.

Morency will come in and provide a change of pace for lead back DeShawn Wynn against Washington. Rookie Brandon Jackson is expected to be inactive.

Funny, because I thought Morency was not fully participating in practice and Jackson wasn't on the injury report...they drafted the kid in the 2nd round, I am sure they haven't given up on him yet.

Morency is being babied along during the week because he isn't 100%. But the Packers want him on the field as their third-down RB. Jackson stinks and is arguably the fourth-best RB on the roster. As I posted earlier in this thread, if Wynn and Morency are healthy my belief is Jackson will be inactive. Wynn has been their best RB so far and Morency brings ability in the passing game.

This is the situation in a nutshell. Jackson may even be inactive this weekend.

That is what I anticipate if Wynn and Morency are active.

This makes some sense because Washington's pass defense is emphasizing taking away the deep pass by playing the safeties deep, so it would figure that RB's would be open on check-downs.

:) He's clearly the 3rd best RB on the team, and last week he could have played but they chose not to play him. It's not like Morency was a picture of health last week either.

Scarlett.... red... dress...(slaps self)I agree. As a Morency owner in two leagues... I like this. I own Kevin Jones as well... and liked that Tatum faced tough run schedule... if he went off for 150/2 each week, KJ would take awhile to come back. Same with Morency... noone is winning the starting job... and hopefully by the time teams figure out how to slow down the GB passing game (jinx as I own Favre), it'll be Morency time. Everything I've read, is that Morency is their fave... McCarthy, Favre et al... the Dorsey Levens 2 comparisons and so on. I'm sitting on Morency, KJ and Turner the Burner... me thinks I'm going to hit all 3 this year.

Hi Switz, understand the context that I am truly speaking of this week. The Skins are allowing underneath passes to the backs, Both Ronnie Brwon and Chatman had 6 a piece in week 1, Ward had 6, Westbrook 8 of them...Wynn is not a threat to catch a lot of balls, so if Morency, who is the back I think will have better overall stats on Sunday, but if he couldn't go for some reason then I think Jackson is the better play. Wynn in terms of FF, is option #3 on that team this week...make sense?

A quarter of Wynn's touches this season has been catching the ball out of the backfield (9 receptions for 73 yards). If I'm not mistaken, he was the third down back when Jackson was the starter. What makes you think that Wynn isn't a threat in the passing game? :D

Because Morency is back. The majority of those receptions came in the games Morency missed. If you watched the Packers-Bears game the roles for Wynn and Morency were clearly defined (when Wynn wasn't in the locker room cramping up). Wynn was the lead RB and Morency the third-down RB. When the Packers went into passing mode late in the game, Morency was on the field for every snap but one when he got dinged and came out. But he came back in and finished the series. Barring injury or poor performance I don't see these two roles changing for the foreseeable future.
