Is Earl Clark to the Cavs a done deal? I thought he was a restricted FA, and never heard anything about the Lakers talking about matching. I think he could take over for MWP at the starting SF position.

Eric Pincus (LA Times blogger and hoops world salary cap guy) wrote an interesting article today. I suck at posting links from my phone, but you can find his link on twitter @EricPincus.

Basically, the premise is if (big if) Kobe was willing to give the lakers a discount on an extension (like 2 years at 10m per), he could help the lakers sign 4 max guys in 2 years by signing a one year deal at the vet min and then reup for a max deal of 20m the following year (nothing could be officially agreed to ahead of time of course). This frees up 2 max slots in 2014, then they would have room for another in 2015 before he signs his max deal.

WALA!

Kobe on his rehab: “I’m progressing faster than everybody expected so I’m very happy with it.” He is targeting mid August for full activity — Dave McMenamin (@mcten) July 10, 2013
KOBE to be at full activity in 4 weeks. That means no restrictions but later stages of tendon recovery still remain. Will see him at Game 1. — Dr. Robert Klapper (@DrRobertKlapper) July 10, 2013
Bryant sounds like he'll be ready to average 50 (shot attempts) a game starting game 1. Awwwwwww yeah.

Maggette willing to take minimum to play with the Lakers.

Today on Mason and Ireland (ESPN 710 Radio), unrestricted free agent Corey Maggette expressed his willingness to sign a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Maggette: If you guys talk about the Lakers, that would definitely be a huge plus. You can’t beat playing for one of the greatest organizations in basketball, having an opportunity to play with Kobe and the guys that they have on there.

Mason and Ireland: Is that something you will be willing to do for the minimum?

Maggette: Of course I’d do it for the minimum. If you have an opportunity to play with that team? Definitely.
Um, woohoo?

I wonder if Metta World Peace will need to go to the emergency room for the knife Corey stuck in his back.

Sources told ESPN.com that Howard and his representatives — in a handful of meetings with Lakers officials before he became a free agent July 1 — strongly suggested the center would have a difficult time re-signing with the team if Bryant stayed with the franchise beyond the 2013-14 season, the final year of his contract.
Kobe Bryant told Lakers Nation in an exclusive interview at his Kobe Basketball Academy on Wednesday. “For me to sit here and say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just going to take a huge pay cut. Nah, I’m going to try to get as much as I possibly can.”

Howard who the Lakers beat in the finals trying to put himself above Bryant is flat out laughable.

Lakers bringing in Nick Young == giving D'Antoni more than enough rope to hang himself. He can finally run the no seconds or less offense. I greatly anticipate seeing the Bryant, Meeks, Young lineup.

Like I said, if D'Antoni get's canned, wait for the call to Nellie.

Adios for reals Metta:

Lakers Waive Metta World Peace Under Amnesty Provision

July 11, 2013 4:44 pm PDT EL SEGUNDO -

The Los Angeles Lakers have waived forward Metta World Peace and have designated him as the team’s amnesty player as allowed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, it was announced by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. “It’s tough to say goodbye to a player such as Metta, who has been a significant part of our team the past four seasons. For anyone who’s had the opportunity to get to know him, it’s impossible not to love him,” said Kupchak. “He has made many contributions to this organization, both in his community work as well as in our games; perhaps no more so than in his clutch play in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals in helping to lead us over the Celtics in one of the greatest playoff wins in Lakers history. We thank Metta for all his contributions and wish him the best of luck in the future.”

A 14-year NBA veteran, World Peace averaged 12.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in 75 games last season. Prior to joining the Lakers in 2009, he played with the Rockets, Kings, Pacers and Bulls, averaging 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals over the course of his career. World Peace, then known as Ron Artest, was named to the 1999-00 All-Rookie Second Team. He was the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2004, and also was named to the NBA All-Star Team that season, as well as to the All-NBA Third Team. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in both 2004 and 2006, and to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2003 and 2009. For his off the court accomplishments, he was voted the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award winner in 2011.

Things really shaping up now.

Napoleon Dynamite still at least 6 weeks away from doing anything useful.

Lakers forward Ryan Kelly had his right foot examined on Monday. The examination was performed by Dr. Kenneth Jung, a foot specialist of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. The diagnosis from the CT scan was that Kelly is a minimum of 6 weeks from being cleared for running and jumping. Kelly underwent surgery on his right foot on April 9th, 2013. He was drafted with the 48th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Lakers after spending 4 years at Duke.

Wes Johnson! I'm sure his 10.3 PER is meaningless.
While I'm not excited about these signings either, I do like them taking stabs at people with high ceilings. Some guys don't "get it" until they're on their 3rd or 4th team. I doubt Johnson ever will, epecially since the Suns didn't want him back for the minimum, but why not roll the dice if you're the Lakers.

They could do worse for the money. Like, Chris Duhon worse. ;)

You keep saying this lol

The point at which the "artist" starts saying things like "we're going for more of a Boy George kind of look, followed by a metropolitan terrorist chic feel - with sweatbands" is the point at which you leave - with no photos taken.

On the one hand, EVERY team in EVERY sport HAS to have an alternate black uniform.

On the other hand, it does look pretty sweet. :oldunsure:

Those are awful. Aren't you a uniform buff? Those are no different than Nebraska slapping those horrid black jerseys on the other day.

When it comes to color scheme with sports attire, always bet on Black. I've seen CLE Indian cap that are Raider colored in Silver and Black, and even a 49er cap with the old vintage logo in the same color scheme. Black sells. Do you think Compton knew who Daryle Lamonica was?

Time for the next act in King Lear Laker. Whoever you decide to believe in this he said, she said stuff, I don't think this thing Dr. Buss set up is going to work. I hate to say it, but maybe it'd be better if someone else owned the team at this point.
