Yahoo's Advice on Mike Tolbert (1 Viewer)

Advice: Tolbert got more carries than rookie Ryan Mathews, who was coming back from injury. Tolbert has been the better back and fantasy owners should dump Mathews in favor of him.
DUMP Mathews? Do they really think he's worth releasing?

Absolutely. It's obvious that Mathews is done. Too many miles. He's all used up.

Is there any type of malpractice claims that can be raised against fanatsy advice columnists. That's juts plain wrong and I feel bad for any newbie that follows it.

This Yahoo sports staffer obviously lost to his opponent who had Ryan Mathews. Talk about letting your feelings get in the way of work.

I wouldn't dump Mathews just yet, but you do have to factor into logic why a so-called gimpy back received so much garbage time. You do not take a risk like that with the game out of reach, unless, of course the injury isn't so bad. It tells me that Tolbert will probably get the majority of carries, but not all of them, especially after Mathews ran so well late in the game. 65/35 split sounds about right (+/- 5).

If anything the roles have reversed, now Ryan is the handcuff.

Coach Norv Turner stated in his post-game press conference Sunday that he is "committed" to Ryan Mathews as the Chargers' starting tailback.

"I'm committed to Ryan being our starting back, and he showed why," Turner said. "The right thing today was to start with Michael (Tolbert). He was going good, and Ryan gave them a little changeup." Turner cited Mathews' previous high ankle sprain and an elbow injury in Thursday's practice as the primary reasons he didn't start over Tolbert against the Cardinals. Everyone ended up happy, with Mathews totaling 68 yards and a touchdown. The rookie needs to stay in lineups at Oakland in Week 5. Tolbert will stay involved, but his touches figure to decline by the week.

Unless of course its just an injury that cant be reaggravated but is still potentially hampering him

I remember about 6 years ago when our league was still using Yahoo, they had a news break saying that Clinton Portis was out for the season due to a weight lifting accident. The Portis owner at the time dumped him after the report to pick up his back-up (we have limited roster spots) and the report was later corrected 8 hours later. Completely hilarious..

In other Yahoo news, it is apparent that Randy Moss should immediately be dumped for Brandon Tate, as Moss no longer figures into the Patriots plans at WR. Also, Miles Austin has clearly been overtaken by Roy Williams based on the Cowboy's last game.

To be fair to Yahoo - They report/repost what has been reported from other sources like Stats Inc or Rotowire. They clearly credit the source at the end of the comment. This paticular comment came from...

Stats Inc which is Wikipedia says "is a global sports statistics and information company – the company name originated as an acronym for "Sports Team Analysis and Tracking Systems". It was founded on April 30, 1981[1] by John Dewan,[2] who became the company's CEO. STATS was an outgrowth of the grassroots non-profit Project Scoresheet, a volunteer network created to collect baseball statistics, prompted by a suggestion made by Bill James, who later joined STATS for a time. In 1987, STATS developed a reporter network for Major League Baseball and provided research for NBC's postseason baseball coverage, and by 1989 was doing the same for ESPN's broadcasts."

Would anyone care to explain why Norv would put their future at risk in a blowout? Ankle sprains, especially high HAS', for running backs is equivalent to a thoroughbred sustaining a leg injury. If anything it appeared that Norv preserved Tolbert, not Mathews, similar to Shonn Green coming in for LT. I just think his AS was overstated because of when his minutes came. Sorry I don't trust coaches when it comes to giving viable information that is useful, ie. Andy Reid. Norv is talking out of both sides of his face, if he didn't start Ryan because of multiple health concerns, than why would he play him in what amounts to mop-up minutes. I like to base my thoughts off of the results, which in this situation is a RBBC, you've gotta admit that Tolbert has earned a sizeable role. If not you're delusional, and you'll continue to get disappointed on a weekly basis because your expectations were so high to begin with. Do whatever you want, but don't just dismiss Tolbert as if he were an afterthought. He has been a complete stud, outside of the Seahawks game where he actually played well considering the run-d and environment.

Looks like someone at Yahoo caught on and changed the advice :goodposting:

Tolbert got more carries than rookie Ryan Mathews, who was coming back from injury. Mathews, however, was solid in his return as the team decided to ease him back in the lineup. Both have fantasy value, though for the moment Tolbert could get a few more carries.
