Yahoo's new online live draft application (1 Viewer)

 Used it tonight for a draft and it was just terrible. I highly recommend anyone who is planning a live draft via-yahoo try a mock one first.

The progam is very jumpy and half our league lost connection several times during the draft. Lost it 4 times myself. Computer ran very slow and you can forget about having any other reference pages open.

Very disapointed...

That sucks. My league used Yahoo for many years before switching to MFL last year. People complained about MFL so we are going back to Yahoo this year. My only problem with Yahoo is the Waivers system. Is there any way to keep people from picking people's back-ups up on Sunday when players get injured? Does anyone know if we upgrade to Yahoo Plus can we set up a normal waivers system?

Thanks!

Yes, Yahoo Plus has better WW functionality. You can lock waivers on Sunday and process based on priority after MNF. Most of my league struggles with computers. We've tried other sites, but they all like Yahoo. It's a keeper league, so the Plus league is our only option.

100% agree. I tried it the other day and the layout itself was awful and made it hard to keep track of picks

I'll be live FF drafting on Yahoo! for the 1st time this season this evening. I'll provide my drafting experience sometime later this evening.

Although I am afraid from what I've read in this thread.

:confused:Why?How could anyone possibly prefer Yahoo after using MFL?They like seeing those avatars move or something? And, yes, the inflexible waiver system is by far the suck - a serious league can not function with their waiver system. The plus might be a bit better, but not by much.

I agree with Marc here. I have been using MFL for about 3 years now and it is far better than yahoo hands down.

Most of it had to do with a couple of guys who didn't prepare for the draft and had no idea of the user interface on MFL. One guy slept in who happened to be drafting number 1 and didn't pre-draft. The draft didn't start for 20 minutes until I was able to figure out how to make a selection for him, LT. 2 or 3 guys complained that the computer kept drafting players for them and we ultimately had to do a redraft because the idiots who didn't prepare wanted to quit. Ultimately we kicked them out of the league and had new guys fill in. It sucks being the commish sometimes as everyone loves to ##### about something. I like MFL a lot more but it wasn't worth the headache of hearing a bunch of grown men cry.

:football: I personally like the interface over years past and had no problem running the draft app, with draft dominator and other various windows open in the background. It is possible IMO that the java draft application can be resource hungry and use quit a bit of memory when running. Hence if your comp is more than a few yearsold. It may run slowly and lag.

mfl is way better imo .

but if you go free i like the new yahoo draft board a lot because my computer would not load the java last year . my local leagues all use yahoo, and i had to pre-rank players last year , then go to "players" on "my team" and refresh every minute . it would then show the guys on my team as autopicked according to my ranks . this year , even though the board is more complex my computer loads the java and all the draft tools work great . i did also have the problem of it overloading when i tried to bring up another web page of rankings . so as long as you have charts with you and know who you like no problems. just dont put the draft board down to bring up some rankings or surf for news while drafting ...

I can't load the draft application, downloaded and installed Adobe Flash 9, tried Firefox, IE, Chrome, even hooked up my 64-bit vista laptop and keep getting the same behavior, it loads with the red status bar, gets to like 90% and just hangs for 10+ minutes with no more progress. I think it might be a firewall issue with Time Warner Cable or something.

The yahoo live draft, even the new version is still waaay better than the live draft application at RTSports.

Needed to do a live draft on RT this year and it was a disaster. 3 picks after the fact guys were realizing that they had timed out and got an autopick that wasn't even on their draft list.

I've done 2 Yahoo live drafts in the last week. No problems at all. The only issue I might have is that it is so different from their mock draft interface. I must have done 30 mock drafts, and then you enter the live draft and it's like...wtf!?

I quite frankly like the Yahoo! ff setup(with the exception of WW the ones who have mentioned it bring up a good point). But of course that's all I've ever used, is MFL really that much better than Yahoo! ? I like the smack talk and also how you can Vote on who you will think will win each matchup week by week and comment on it.

Ironically every year someone disconnects from our live draft. Although it has never been Yahoo! related. This year the player that got disconnected was installing Windows SP3 at the time....Power outages and ISP issues the years before that.

My first draft this year was a Yahoo Live draft and while it did take some time to be able to find the Draft Summary the biggest problem I had was that it was too fast. Too fast to keep up with Draft Dominator since there were about four guys that were auto drafting. The whole 12 team 13 deep draft went by in less than two hours.

I had an offline draft on MFL and what was supposed to be a live draft on ESPN. The ESPN draft had to be offline because they require a 24 hour window to reserve a draft time for their live draft.

We had a small delay issue w/ RT, but it only happened once or twice. We purposely didn't set a time limit just in case something like that were to happen. So, we just waited a minute or so until it caught up and we resumed drafting. Not perfect, but thankfully no disasters.

The yahoo draft room was the best live draft room i've ever seen.

To the above poster asking about mfl vs yahoo.

For dynasty mfl all the way, for re-draft i prefer yahoo.

I still have no clue what happened.

I have not had any problems using Yahoo in years past. They do seem to change something every year. I tried Firefox, IE, Chrome, I tried it on my laptop, I vpn'd into work and tried it from my work computer. Every time it would launch the window and get to like 90% and then just hang. So frustrating.

*shrug* I've done about 10 drafts in it, and had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I actually really like the new Yahoo draft layout... much smoother looking than years past...

I used it for one draft, and we had a few minor glitches, but overall it went fine. We did all get kicked out of the draft room at one occasion. I could not see the full screen in the draft room, so I had no access to the chat going on and I could only see partial names of players drafted. I talked to someone else who experienced the same thing, and he said that a right click on the screen in the draft room gave him a "full screen" option and that fixed the problem.

Thanks. And I thought this years revamped draft room was excellent.

I had the same problem with both baseball and football with Yahoo this year. I tried emailing Yahoo! sports help desk, but had no joy in finding out the problem, but I strongly suspect in my case it is something to do with the default settings on my laptop that the firm I work for installs and firewalls. But being a technical luddite I have no clue how to overcome it. In the end I had to borrow my missus's Imac...

It has got to be port related (i.e. firewall). Although I did try my laptop as well, but that could be due to Vista. Regardless, Yahoo needs to do a better job of helping you identify the problem rather then just freezing their status bar when it gets to 90%. Port availability should be one of the first things it checks (after software compatibility like Adobe Flash).

I've done two drafts on Yahoo and didn't encounter any problems.

I have one MFL league and thought their draft interface was horrible. It looked bad, a couple of times the wrong player was chosen (allegedly), and a couple of names appeared twice. e.g. Calvin Johnson's name still appeared on the available list even after he was drafted.

I have one league on RT Sports, but we do a live draft in person.

Did two drafts with it and it worked fine. The 90 second time clock is fast but everything else is great.

didnt have any problems at all. However, i have a very high end PC and 2 monitors, so the chance of anything slowing my PC down is pretty remote.

I had two drafts and it was fine, bad luck on your end I suppose ... Oh and we had half the folks on dialup and no one got disconnected ...

The Yahoo draft app is Flash, not Java.My guess is the OP's problems were related to bandwith, not CPU/RAM resources. There has to be a ton of Yahoo drafts going on in these last few days before the first games.

I had the same issue as the OP the first time I tried to enter the draft room. Dropped firefox, restarted firefox and had no issues. Was using Windows Vista business. No one on the draft reported any problems at all, but yeah, it was kinda fast.
