not a big fan of yellow mustard.. i have used it in a few applications.

On the other hand, I have a healthy appreciation for whole grain and dijon varieties...wonderful french, german, napa/sonoma options out there

I'll disagree with the house in the sense that there is a such a thing a weakly-flavored yellow mustard. I like yellow mustard ... so to me the weak stuff is not terrible, exactly, but it's a letdown.

That said -- 90% of the brands of yellow mustard out there (including plenty of store brands) are just fine for the purpose intended. Still voted "no", just on a techicatlity.

I absolutely can tell a difference... talking Yellow Mustard here...

Plochman's is by far the best IMO. French's and Heinz are much more heavy on the vinegar taste.

For the flavored mustards, there's a wide range of good and bad, so I won't go into that here. Big mustard fan though...

I don’t get the yellow mustard hate

I typically have 5-6 different varieties of mustards going at any time, including recently my own fermented hot mustard. But there's always a place for plain yellow in my world. Sometimes as a rub or ingredient, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for some good old yeller.
Hot dogs
Burgers
Italian sausage
Pretzels
Lunchmeat sandwich
Potato salad

This plus a fried egg sandwich with yellow mustard on toasted sourdough or whole wheat bread is damn good as well.

After re-reading the title I realize we're just talking yellow but this Caveman has nailed it, Plochman's is the only brand I will grab at the store if we're just talking yellow

-Bring water to a boil, drop Nathan's "coney island" 5-pack into the water and turn the boiling water OFF
Set timer for 5 minutes, then you just open the bun, drop the dog and top with Plochman's alongside a cold can of Pilsner/Lager
We would also accept onions and relish on the hot dog but for gawds' sake absolutely NO ketchup!

Pretty much agree with this list save the pretzel - if you have a good spicy mustard I vastly prefer that to yellow.

I love yellow mustard and really don't notice a difference in brands. Though my absolute favorite is Silver Springs Jalapeno because it has a nice kick to it

Gonna try this. I'm still sore that French's hot yellow went away (it had cayenne in it). That stuff was incredible. I have been trying to find something close to it and haven't had any luck yet.

Mention mayonnaise, and people start losing their $#!&
All I'm gonna say is - Blue Plate. Nothing else is even in the same universe.

The only way I'll eat yellow mustard is if it's used for a fish fry. Otherwise, nasty.
While in Texas last week I (of course) ate at Whataburger. Since I'm a picky eater akin to a 6-year old, I eat my burgers plain and dry. I ordered it that way there but apparently they missed the "dry" part so it had nothing but mustard (and cheese) on it. I didn't even notice until halfway through since I dip my Whataburgers in gravy (yes I'm weird) and the yellow mustard kinda blended into the cheese. I ended up pulling the top bun off and wiped what I could off and ate the rest. Mustard. Gross.

We do Blue Plate and Duke's - like both a lot but think I prefer Duke's slightly.

Prefer Hellmanns. Think I tried dukes ones it was a little too tangy or something IIRC.

Also just want to get a jab in at miracle whip. So awful. Had to buy some the other day for some sort of cheese biscuits my MIL used to make. Wife wanted to make them for her and insisted it has to be miracle whip. I accidentally bought LITE. Tried to use some for tartar sauce the other night it was vile. Rest of the jar went right in the trash

As for yellow mustard, I've mostly always thought they were the same. We always get French's because I'm a FBG with money to burn but these comments about Plochman's intrigues me. If they have it at our local Publix will try it out.

Yeah, I believe it is higher in vinegar which explains the tanginess and may be the zing I'm looking for.

hot tip - its very easy to make your own, and it beats any mayo you can buy. https://www.seriouseats.com/two-minute-mayonnaise

Yellow mustard is great for certain uses in recipes. Great to slather on for BBQ and great for certain hot sauces as well. Both applications where the vinegar works in its favor.
