You know you're in a league with guppies when... (1 Viewer)

Reverse Guppy Story:We were gathering for the initial draft in a dynasty league. Everyone has magazines, laptops, printed articles, cheetsheats, etc. Except one person - he comes in with a few hand written names and numbers on a half sheet of notebook paper and six beers. As the draft unfolds and people start firing out questions or making small talk about what's-his-name or someone asks who is the 3rd QB on the Chiefs and the drafter with the half sheet of paper (after 3 beers) fires out his name like he's on the Chief's coaching staff (occasionally mentioning what college he went to or his age, height, etc.), we all realize he aint no guppy. We come to find out that this is about his 15th draft and his notes were so he wouldn't get mixed up between redraft and dynasty rankings. Two years later, he has the championship trophy on his fireplace mantle. The guy with the half sheet was no guppy - he was the shark.(But, I knew it along, because he's my dad!)Oh, it's all good - I won the championship in year 1. We're trying to get the trophy named "The DoubleG Trophy" (he and I have the same name - I'm Jr.) - kinda like they named the SuperBowl trophy after the coach who won it the first two times. The other 8 owners aren't nearly as enthralled with this thought, however.

Saw the great discussion on the guppies vs. sharks article, and I wanted to hear a few more stories.I have a few good ones:I knew I was in a league with guppies when one year, there was a run on Kickers in the 8th round, and on QBs in the 5th round. I think people were filling out their starting lineups in order (RB,RB,WR,WR, QB, TE, K, Def). Last year, in the same keeper league, someone actually kept a kicker instead of Marion Barber or Chester Taylor.Another live draft in another league, 3 people strolled in with magazines at hand, asking for a pen: SI, USA Today, and Sporting News. The magazines did ok in the early rounds, but it was funny seeing them with their magazines, while other guys have draft dominator up and running on their laptops.
Were you one of those guppies? Most sharks or pups (baby shark in training) joined the #1 rated FF site (FBG's) long time ago..you joined 10 days ago! :lmao:
Spoken by a guy who joined last year :)
Agreed. This Fireflies guy is a joke....

There's one guy in my league who I wouldn't even call a guppy, but rather chum. We're all friends and we play for bragging rights rather than money, so he gets to stay in the league year after year. His drafts are routinely awful. We get one keeper and instead of keeping a guy like MJD, he keeps Philip Rivers. This year might have been the final straw, though. Aside from keeping Rivers, he informs us at the last moment that he can't make the draft, but that he ranked his players so all is well. Bullpoop...he left the (awful) default rankings in place. His autodraft got him 3 TEs, 1 RB, a boatload of IDPs and a couple of kickers (the first one in round 8). The draft was last Sunday and he has yet to log in and poke around the waiver wire. We're seriously thinking of booting him despite the friendly nature of our league.

Update: The guy finally logs in and sees what a fiasco his autodraft was. Instead of scouring the WW for whatever RB scraps are left (he has only one on his roster, mind you), he decides to trade Gates (his best asset by far) for DJax straight-up.

I am in a league that is a mixture of savvy owners and chuckleheads. So one guy bids $10 on Baltimore D. Ok, no problem. That's what a top D goes for in a $100 cap league. But then a few minutes later he bids $5 on the Oakland defense - in a league where you aren't even required to nab a second defense. Bidding on Oakland wasn't so lame, but Oak was nominated at $1 and this guy could have had Oak for $2.

That's not even the best part.

This chowderhead nominates and wins Marcel Shipp for $2. Needless to say, the room erupted with laughter.

i must have been drafting w/ guppies last night because w/ the 10th & 11th pick, i managed to get Shawn Alexander AND Peyton Manning. Then when it finally came back to me, i picked up Chad Johnson and Duece McAllister.

I remember when FBG bought the site I was a member of, but I can't remember the name of the site...
It was called cheatsheets.net...was a member too!
That was it!Good times.
 Did y'all take a 4 year break from FF?
Maybe that wasn't it. It was years ago, before the FBG moved to the new forum on the date I created this account.Man, I wish I could remember... I was bummed when it happened, but FBG has been good to me.

Mr. Football comes to mind, that might have been the name.
I find it hilarious that people think there's no good fantasy information outside FBG. I was a member of Cheatsheets and MrFootball, yet after those changed I switched to Draftsharks for a couple years. I believe I actually became a member at FBG with a different email address before signing up for the forums.

You just figured that out?

Chester Taylor is drafted in the 3rd round, and the same guy takes Chris Brown in the 7th.

10 man league, 16 round draft.

1) This year I get a trade offer of Mike Bell for Reggie Bush. I have Bush (yes, this was a serious trade).

2) Yes I know this is a baseball trade but when Mo Vaughn signed with the Mets he was taken 1.04. After he hurt his arm and got shelved for the entire year.

...

3) When someone posts a fantasy baseball comment on a fantasy football thread.

12 man league, 15 rounds:

1.12: Tom Brady

2.01: Baltimore Def

3.12: Jamal Lewis

It just got worse from there.
