It's been a long standing tradition of American Presidents to honor our service men and women at Arlington National Cemetary on Memorial Day...until NOW!

Just didn't fit into Obama's vacation schedule.
Yeah, I was pissed about that too...until I did a little research.http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/memorialday.asp

In 2002, President George W. Bush was in France on Memorial Day and participated in ceremonies at Normandy (site of the D-Day landings) honoring the U.S. soldiers who fought and died in World War II.

President George H.W. Bush (himself a World War II veteran) attended no ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery during his four years in office. From 1990 through 1992 he spent the Memorial Day weekend vacationing in Kennebunkport, Maine, while Vice-President Dan Quayle laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

President Ronald Reagan was away from Arlington on Memorial Day on four occasions during his eight years in office.
Odd that nobody ever brings those up. :blackdot:

Could be because we are at war right now...and some might expect he would be there. I don't know.

Looks like Clinton made it there all 8 years.

Storm cancels Obama's Memorial Day speechAt the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois, the president tells spectators, 'We are … concerned about lightning. This may not be safe.' Later, he delivers the speech in Washington.By Stacy St. Clair, Chicago TribuneJune 1, 2010Reporting from Elwood, Ill. —A violent thunderstorm forced President Obama to cancel his Memorial Day address Monday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois, where he took to a rain-soaked stage and urged the thousands of spectators to seek shelter."We are a little bit concerned about lightning," he told the crowd. "This may not be safe. I know that all of you are here to commemorate the fallen. ... What we'd like to do is, if possible, have people move back to their cars, and if this passes in the next 15 to 20 minutes, I'll stick around."The White House said Obama made the decision to halt the event.Army Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Burleson, an Illinois National Guardsman, was sitting to Obama's left in a tent with other dignitaries."He was just really worried for the people sitting out there in an open field," Burleson said. "He had reason to be."The event was soon canceled, and the president climbed aboard two buses filled with relatives of fallen troops and thanked them for their sacrifice. The president's choice to commemorate the holiday in Illinois instead of at Arlington National Cemetery had angered some veterans groups, who saw the decision as a sign of disrespect. Vice President Joe Biden participated in ceremonies at Arlington.Obama eventually delivered his Memorial Day remarks Monday evening after returning to Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington.
sounds like W cranked up his thunderstorm machine and had a little fun

Toolorama> Update?

We can see how well the Cheney energy policy is working. I blame Obama for leaving Bush appointees in place.

Obama's big problem is believing the GOP would act like adults and try and fix the nations problems many of which they caused.

They tried but the Dems wanted to make things worse.

This was thoroughly debunked in the other BP thread where you used it. Obama has had his people in for quite some time now. Overall, Obama has filled 71% of the positions that require senate approval, and nominated another 10%. All that's left are judges and lesser positions in the agencies.

Not sure how stating that fact makes me republican. Especially since the numbers came from the Washington Post.

Because only republicans like Five Guys or because I actually put the blame for the oil spill on BP and not a current or past administration?

I love when Barry's internal polling suggests that he's being too distant (or "cool") on an issue because he suddenly transforms into President Ditka

Tune in for some hilarious Presidential swearing this morning on the "Today" show.

How would he be doing if the GOP actually helped?

This poll should be how could one party destroy the economy and then block cleaning up the mess?

Why does Obama need the help of the GOP? He told them to just get out of the way while the Dems clean up the mess.

If you think one party destroyed this economy you have no clue what has happened in the last 20 years. Start reading guy!

Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

Has anyone noticed how much older Obama looks already? It hasn't even been 2 years yet, and already his hair looks grayer to me.

We get to watch each president age quickly before our eyes as the enormous burdens of the job fall heavily upon them. The question always becomes for me: why would anyone want this job? And once in it, why would you want to stay?

Do you have a text file on your desktop that you use to copy & paste bad one liners? This is like the 200th time I've see this very quote from you. I've said it before and I'll say it again - you are the absolute worst poster in the FFA.

Started out ok, and getting worse as each day passes. :hifive:
Economically, the numbers are not favorable since he's been in office:
The federal government is now $13 trillion in the red, the Treasury Department reported Wednesday, marking the first time the government has sunk that far into debt and putting a sharp point on the spending debate on Capitol Hill.Calculated down to the exact penny, the debt totaled $13,050,826,460,886.97 as of Tuesday, leaping nearly $60 billion since Friday, the previous day for which figures were released. At $13 trillion, that figure has risen by $2.4 trillion in about 500 days since President Obama took office, or an average of $4.9 billion a day. That's almost three times the daily average of $1.7 billion under the previous administration
The unemployment rate has risen from 7.6% to 9.7% since February 2009, but the census plays a factor:
In an attempt to get a clearer picture of the effect from the Census on unemployment data, we evenly subtracted the 1.2-million Census bump across fall's unemployment rates and found the new numbers ringing in at 10.1% (Sept), 10.4% (Oct), and 10.1% (Nov). If a one-tenth-of-a-percent drop in November was a reason to celebrate, then a three-tenth-of-a-percent October upward revision is a reason to cringe. In the months ahead, expect the same number games. The Census already hired 1.2 million workers in the fall, as mentioned earlier; now they're planning for another 1.2 million in the spring. February began with an additional 15,000 Census workers; the hiring will peak in April-May with 800,000 workers hired in just two months. The peak alone is projected to temporarily push unemployment downward by half a percent.

what's the point of telling someone they suck?

its just a message board, don't let your collar get so tight.

i bet if I restarted this thread today the numbers would be far worse...its too bad actually even though I don't personally like Obama, i'd still like to have a good effective president.

My bet...dyed during the campaign to look younger...then let gray once in office to look wiser....

Obamacare could ban low-cost plans

Part of the health care overhaul due to kick in this September could strip more than 1 million people of their insurance coverage, violating a key goal of President Barack Obama’s reforms.Under the provision, insurance companies will no longer be able to apply broad annual caps on the amount of money they pay out on health policies. Employer groups say the ban could essentially wipe out a niche insurance market that many part-time workers and retail and restaurant employees have come to rely on.This market’s limited-benefit plans, also called mini-med plans, are priced low because they can, among other things, restrict the number of covered doctor visits or impose a maximum on insurance payouts in a year. The plans are commonly offered by retail or restaurant companies to low-wage workers who cannot afford more expensive, comprehensive coverage.Depending on how strictly the administration implements the provision, the ban could in effect outlaw the plans or make them so restrictive that insurance companies would raise rates to the point they become unaffordable.
Approximately one million people losing affordable healthcare coverage 9 weeks before the November elections could lead to interesting outcomes at the ballot box.

I blame both, this stuff started in the 90's and has been snowballing ever since. If we had to pin this on one guy I think it would be Barney Frank!

it won't be long before the people in the private sector revolt against the people in the public sector. This system is completely broken.

There is something that pains me to see people "strongly disapproving" of Obama and yet somehow we voted Bush into office twice. In a lot of ways I guess it's to be expected given the monumental expectations for Obama, but when you look at the state of the things when he took over, I mean, come on. Did we really just expect that little from Bush?

I have friends here in NYC (many in the financial industry) 1) complaining about bailouts (many of which saved their jobs), 2) complaining about "all the new taxes", and 3) complaining about the state of the economy.

Just out of curiosity - for those of you who disapprove, what would you have had him do instead? And what about his administration so far is it that you disapprove of most?

(For the record, I voted mildly approve, as I think there are certain situations he could have handled better)
Things Obama can do better:Stop printing money

Stop apologizing

Stop bowing

Stop printing money

Stop signing bills into law that don't meet your campaign promise for transparency.

Stop appointing people who are politically radical and/or underaccomplished and/or unqualified to your cabinet, your admininstration, and to the Supreme Court.

Stop playing golf and screwing off with sports teams while the Gulf States are in peril. Stop walking on the beach all dressed up. At least act like it's important to you.

Stop screwing Great Britain, and Israel.

Stop printing money

Stop cowtowing to Vlad Putin. Man up and put in the missile shield that we promised. But, on second thought, don't. Shortly after you were elected, the Russians invaded Georgia. They pushed with tanks. You pushed back by threatening to engage the Russians in dialogue. They didn't appear to be impressed. It will only be worse if you try to put big-boy pants on. So don't.

Stop letting your Assistant Secretary of State equate the AZ immigration law to Chinese human rights abuses. That guy should be fired.

Stop letting North Korea sink South Korean ships and get away scot free.

Stop getting off of Air Force One without wearing a tie.

Stop printing money

Stop restricting the scope of NASA operations. The "S" in NASA means "space" for a reason. It's embarrassing that we'll be hitching rides with commies.

Stop talking about Cap and Trade. Forget it. Make it go away forever.

Repeal Obamacare

Resign. Take Biden, Pelosi, and Reid with you.

This whole thread reminds me of a joke.....

So Joe Biden is walking down the street one day for some exercise, when he see's a young girl with some kittens. Thinking he would be nice he ask's the young girl what her kittens names are. She replies "Democats." Thinking this is cute, Joe goes back to the White House and tells Obama about this young girl and her cute kittens. The next day Biden and Obama are walking and see the same girl. Biden says "Barack you have to check this girl's kittens out." So Obama walks up to her and says "hi little girl what are your kittens names?" She replies "Republicats." At that point Joe Biden says "yesterday you said they were Democats." The little girl replies "Nah, today they opened their eyes!"

lol
Maybe not a revolt but, in places like Long Island NY with teachers, police and sanitation workers making 100k + after some years in and all retiring early with full benefits and pensions, it just doesn't make much sense and is unsustainable.Eventually it seems like all that would be left is the public sector and a loud sucking noise.
