Keep this going another 5 years -- by then my five year old will be old enough - and ready.

IS there a bumper sticker that touts 'my kid just beat your honor student at Fantasy Football?'

There should be. :)

Thanks for the kind words. This is the 12th YouthFF season .

It's a effort that I truely enjoy. Altogether, I estimate we have hosted 350+ leagues (3000 teams) and 1350+ different youths.

The age breakdowns are..

Ages 10-11-12, 8 teams per league. (Post-draft trading and adult assistance permitted)

Ages 13-14-15, 8 teams per league. (All trading permitted)

Ages 16-17-18, 10 teams per league. (All trading permitted)

This is great TC. It's nice to know someone out there is helping young guys learn the right way.

My two boys have participated for the last 2 years and both have enjoyed themselves immensely. Both of them made the playoffs their first year, with my youngest winning a championship…..at 10 years old!! (He can even claim he won a FF Championship before I did!!!!) Both just missed the playoffs last year. I’m positive they will be back in ’07 for another run at a title.

Thanks for all of your hard work TC….it does not go unnoticed.

BTW: It's weird.....I was just thinking last night that we should be hearing from you soon.

Another BTW: TC runs a first class set of leagues here and if you would like to get your children off on the right foot this is THE place to go!!

lolBut hey that's part of the fun; they learn. A few years from now he'll be going "remember when I took Manning w/the first pick" and having a laugh. And frankly that pick will probably end up being wiser than the #1 many of us pick anyway. Don't worry I'm sure he'll bring you along slowly :excited:

Good but......come on.....kids in high school gamble. How many of you were in FF leagues in High School? Just curious.
:kicksrock: First league was my freshman year. It was my brother's work league. All ages in there. My brother was 18, then the rest of the guys were anywhere from 25-60.Started off the season 0-5.Finished 6-7 after a timely trade. Won the league my first year. :X

I think it is absolutely awesome that you do this every year.

If you keep this going for another five years, you'll get flooded with the kids of the 33-year-old flood of FBGs.

I and other friends in our league started when we were 13, well over half of our lives ago. But I do hope to pass the torch to a successor someday when I lose control of my bowels in the nursing home while watching Marshall Faulk III score to beat my team. One owner in my league claims that his children will have to complete in a series of "feats of strength" to attain control of his franchise.

I'm in a good mood. Let me babble a bit this Saturday evening...

YouthFF is fun because the kids learn as they share the season with their peers. It is very rewarding to follow and sponsor the youths as they graduate from month to month on their path of mastering the league - You can actually see the members' improvement on a monthly basis!

To be fair, it is also semi-frustrating on occasion, as you see perhaps a third of the kids never return. They simply 'try out' fantasy football on this scale and develop no fondness at all for it. But at least they try here at a young age.

As the commissioner for 30 leagues, I can tell some stories.. Some guys are seriously 'homers', desiring every local name player - The current 'hot' players are especially 'hot' within YouthFF - This is due to not everyone understanding the value of a McAllister or Coles to their roster. Roster strength varies a great deal. The -only- time I 'assist' is when I notice that a member has a large number of one position on their roster -or- drafts a 'dead' player (2006 Ricky Williams) At that point, I'll contact and coach a bit.

One thing we do to promote the 'fun' aspect is have our 4th and final WC team be the highest scoring team of the season. This allows the a September failures to have a December chance to succeed. About 20% of the 4th seeded playoff team sweeps the two game playoff. because they have the best December lineup.

Some one ask me about this, so I'll share.. YouthFF has a three-strike rule on behavior. After the first private or public display of name calling or any profanity, the members are advised what is expected of them. Afterwards, most quickly comply and adjust their actions to fit into the situation. Just as in real life, members must comply with what's expected of them

YouthFF - Where fantasy is fun.

This sounds great, TC. What is an acceptable amount of help you can give a participant? Would it be appropriate to show my ten year old a copy of VBD, for example? TIA

I remember someone taking Kordell Stewart #1 back in a draft some years back :banned:

Certainly. I often share my personal cheat sheet with the group, as a guide. Sharing any reasonable public draft list is not what I consider 'coaching'. They are easily available. Coaching is informing someone that Player X is injured or that player Y is not expected to be a productive player.. and a diozen other situations. Many less popular players have been the 1.01 pick. Kordell Stewart, Curtis Martin, Marvin Harrison, Jerome Harrison, Kurt Warner, Warren Moon, and others. The only three first round picks that I overturned were two PKs and a retired player.

I went to the site. Looks cool. But I couldn't find how the draft was run or when it started.
Members are informed of the calender after the leagues are filled. Commonly, we stagger the start dates and begin drafting after July 15.

My 11 yr old just signed up. Now I just have to school him on VBD and Draft Dominator so he can kick some tail.

Seriously, thank you very much for bringing us this so we can introduce our kids to the hobby we so passionately love.

BTW, you are not on my wife's list of favorite people right now. :hifive: She now could have 2 FF junkies to deal with.

My son has been begging us to join our league for 2 years now. But he's only 9 this Sept., so I guess he's still waiting one more year.

Really cool idea, and he will definitely in there next year.
