Agreed, but there's very little chance IMO that Stacy doesn't get a majority of the carries to start the season.

If Mason is that bad of a pass blocker, how is he even in the discussion here for carries?

Gawain makes a good point. The term "majority" is reletive. It's all dependent on how many carries the team has for the season.
Sure he may get more than 50% to start the season, which would be the majority, but things may look very different by mid-season.
I personally think Tre Mason will seize control of the starting RB role by mid-season, provided he improves his pass protection blocking,
which I fully expect him to do.

Scouting reports call his pass blocking everything from average to horrible. No one is saying it is a strength. We don't know to what extent he can be taught/coached up. It seems some people believe that the pass blocking fairy will come visit him in his sleep so he can be a starter from day 1

Its always OK to post articles/blurbs like that, it wasn't clear.
The main reason I noticed was because the language Fisher used was familiar.
I only gave a heads up in case you or anybody else based a decision on it in an upcoming draft.
As noted in the Mason thread, since then they have said it is an open competition, but I still expect Stacy to be the primary ball carrier in 2014.
IMO Mason is talented enough to give Stacy a run for his money in the future, I'd just be surprised to see it happen this year. He is reportedly pretty raw in pass pro (I mean, even for a rookie
).

from RotoViz, but they reference this article when talking about men in the box. Makes the difference between Stacy's 3.9 ypc and Lacy's 4.1 ypc seem less damning (if it ever did to you).
I'd be surprised if he isn't the starter all season, barring injury. I expect the OL and young WRs to take a step forward, which will take some pressure off of him. Mason is a good COP guy, but needs more development to threaten for the job.
It kills me, but I moved Stacy for K. Allen in a non-PPR keep 5 last night. Had to move a RB to avoid keeping two more than I can start...

Anyone who watched the game yesterday care to give me a quick report on Stacy? I wasn't able to watch the game. Saw in the mason thread that he (tre) got blown up in pass pro. How did Stacy look? Oline? TIA

O-line looked brutal. Absolutely brutal. Multiple defenders in the backfield every time Stacy touched the ball. Stacy looked slow and lacking in elusiveness, but it is hard to attribute that to Stacy (much as I want to - not a fan).Mason was awful in pass protection. He was completely flummoxed blocking Clinton-Dix on a blitz. And it wasn't like C-D made a great move......Mason just got overwhelmed. Think about that.......this was vs a safety. Now imagine him picking up a blitz from Peppers, Matthews, etc. mason looks really, really small out there.

The running game will be much better when Long and Saffold are back and Robinson moves back to LG.

Seattle is actually pretty easy to run on for the Rams. Last year Stacy torched the Hawks in St Louis and St Louis should have won the game.

Im thinking that it would have been nice to start the "starter" and bring Benny in on drive 2 instead of vice versa.

It took a lot of injuries to get Stacy the job last year and he really wasn't good in terms of YPC. This could be a bad sign that the Rams still dont want Stacy to be the guy.

For context, Robinson didn't start at LG (Saffold slid over from RG with Davin Joseph taking his place), but there hasn't been any indication he won't be starting game one of the regular season. There were also reports before the game that Ogletree might not start, so they could get an extended look at Sabino as cut down date approaches. I don't know if that happened, but if it had, it wouldn't be an indication that Ogletree was no longer starting. This is admittedly a little counter-intuitive with the third pre-season game usually being the final dress rehearsal for the regular season. The reports about Ogletree possibly not starting and a healthy Robinson not starting tonight make me inclined to take Fisher's explanation about Cunningham at face value.

In retrospect, I don't think Richardson or Pead were as good as Stacy, but they may not have realized it at the time. IMO, the fact that Stacy was more talented was why he quickly supplanted them. Richardson wasn't doing much when he was healthy. The meaning of Stacy's yard per carry average of 3.9 has been debated. In the last game when Stacy was 15-15 against SEA, the OL was more blown up than usual. If that game was an outlier (it was away, but with the OL more intact earlier in the season at home, he had over a 100 yards), minus that game, his average was 4.1. Same as Lacy and Bernard.

Yeah, I don't really get this. Even if he has doubts about Stacy, why cause a stir and start Cunningham when you can get the same look 1 series later?
Something else, why would he do this and then lie about it if he had some underlying issues with the starting RB?

But he played the next series. Why not just play the first series and not the 2nd? Maybe to send a message to Stacy that he isn't happy with the performance?

He did do well after Bradford went down. Of course he really didnt play before Bradford went down so there's not too much to compare there.
Clemens had some flashes of being decent, but was wildly inconsistent. This isnt news for anyone in here, but Hill is a clear upgrade versus last year.
I dont expect a super-steep reduction in passing yards estimates for the team. Index had Bradford at 224/game. Maybe it moves to 210 now for Hill?

This article in the Stl Post-Dispatch made me feel that Stacy's role hasn't changed much if any at this point. They may feel better about their ability to sub more and keep Stacy fresh because BCunningham seems better equipped to spell Stacy than any of their RB's were last year. Virtually every starting RB in the NFL gives way to the bench for a series here and there.
The only worry from a Stacy owner's perspective is that he doesn't run as well as he did last year. I don't care what his YPC was in '13...I watched virtually every carry and he was a very good every-down NFL running back. As long as he doesn't regress or get hurt he should be just what I drafted him to be: Low RB1/high RB2.
