What is the outlook for Deangelo Williams next year (1 Viewer)

As a Deangelo Williams owner in a dynasty league I am curious to know what other people think on his situation for next year. At the end of the year he was playing very well, and was wondering how the carries would be distributed between him and foster.

Thanks

there have been a couple of recent threads about this. try searching for Threads with DeAngelo in the title. As i recall, there was some pretty good discussion.

He's easily the best playmaker in the Panther's backfield. However, until Williams learns to pass-block, he'll be nothing more than a 700-800 yard RB in '08.

I'm looking to draft him next year as a RB3, and hopefully he steps up to be a serviceable RB2. The kid when given consistent looks can be productive. He was very productive in college, and hoping he has matured enough to assume the role as top RB in Carolina. "Good Time" DeAngelo needs to take his job a little more seriously, hopefully this is the year.

the recent rumblings of them converting back to a power running game don't bode well for his future prospects.

I expect them to go after somebody like Kevin Smith in the 3rd round that suits that type of offense. However, Fox shouldn't be allowed to select the RB's anymore...

I am glad that someone has finally broached this topic.

The only one that may have your answer is the clueless John Fox.

 That's one of the biggest knocks on him. That and he doesn't go forward. Tries to bust everything outside. As someone else posted earlier, Carolina is looking to go to a power running game which doesn't particularly suit DeAngelo. I expect a bigger back to be drafted from the 3rd round down.

Yeah, someone like Winslow Oliver, or Eric Shelton.

Risky.

Williams is a superior player to Foster in most aspects of the game, and has been the last two seasons. The concerning thing is that John Fox apparently hasn't noticed, even though everyone else watching football has. This is starting to seem like it did in Atlanta with how they've handled Norwood. He was clearly the more gifted runner, but the coaches sided with experience.

No way to tell, but in re-drafts I'd look at him as a high upside RB4 unless there are some really positive TC reports about a competition, or better giving DeWill a chance to start. In a Dynasty i'd probably try to seek out one of those owners that still thinks he's going to take the job outright, as soon as 08. If you can get that kind of value for him, it's in your best interest to take it.

Well, his deficiencies didn't look that bad when he got 120/2 TDs (6.1 YPC) in a week 17 victory. Last year when this same question was raised, I predicted "top 10 back going forward, SOD, etc., etc., etc." I'll make the same prediction for 2008. His numbers prove he has the ability, it's all about when he finally is given opportunity. As for the crowd predicting the Panthers draft another RB, to that I say "Great, a new guy people can complain is never being given a chance while Fox commits to Deangelo."

Published Tue Jan 22 1:16:00 a.m. ET 2008(Rotoworld) DeShaun Foster's $4.75 million base salary in 2008 is scheduled to be the second highest on the Panthers.Impact: Foster, who will be entering the final year of his deal, is coming off another poor season in which he averaged a career worst 3.5 YPC. Owner Jerry Richardson plans to make several offseason roster adjustments. Cutting Foster or at least asking him to restructure his contract seems likely.

:goodposting: Right now I see Williams as a high-priced luxury in dynasty leagues. He has the potential to be a top 15 guy as early as next season, but the uncertainty regarding the extent of his opportunity means you really can't assume that he's going to give you anything useful in the short-term. And although he's a talented player, is he the type of elite back who demands an opportunity to start? It's hard to say. Maybe he eventually gets a shot somewhere. Maybe he's Kevin Faulk with a little more flash.

Foster is due to make $4.75 MIL in 2008.

He will be the 2nd highest paid player on the Panthers.

If he doesn't renegotiate, he may be gone, imo.
