Obamacare: Obama just straight up lied to you, in your face (3 Viewers)

:goodposting:

This poster hits the nail on the head:

This whole mess is depressing. Political nonsense and utter ignorance on both sides. For every $1 we help 10% of the public save in individual health insurance premiums (in the form of subsidy from the actual inflated rates), we will spend $10 delivering it. Dems will point to the $1 savings as proof this is working.

How long did Y2K fixes take to complete?
The better part of a decade.
That doesn't seem right. I'll wait for Tim to answer.
Well, I answered for my industry (banking). It might take 5 minutes in a mom and pop store. I answered best I could given the vague question ;) If you're asking how long the government took to do their fixes, I know for a fact they started making changes in 1987 and I was on a project in 1998 that assisted them in completing it. I'll never forget it....was my first assignment as a dba.

Not familiar with gov't technology practices? What should be done or could be done is irrelevant. Folks here continue to overlook the environment that the government has. It's not pretty and certainly not "current" by anyone's standards. A good amount of the gov't systems in place have been so since the 80s.
I'm not sure that most health insurance companies are much better. Especially those in the business for a long time like the blues.
Not familiar with their environments to say with any degree of certainty, but I doubt that. Companies invest in these sorts of technologies because it allows them to get higher levels of service out of their IT departments while reducing costs, which is fundamentally important to the performance of their business as a whole. I'd say this probably becomes especially important in these industries now that the new law has mandated that they have to minimize their overhead and deliver a greater percentage of what they take in to health care as a whole. Where things fall apart for the government is that there isn't any competition or pressure.
I worked for one of the Blues for a while and you are partially correct. BCBSM went through a major upgrade process about 5 - 6 years ago to get a lot of their systems aligned, but there were major portions that they were afraid to port over because they were critical to their business, especially in the rating area.

Stop pretending you know more about technical issues than Tim does.

yes sir :bag:

OK I'm done coddling you techie guys already. You know what needs to be done. Stop whining and offering excuses. Get it done, or I'll find somebody else who can. You guys are a dime a dozen anyhow. All you do is work on somebody else's broader conception. Highly paid mechanics, completely interchangeable.

Don't stop for lunch. Don't come out until it's finished, OK? And don't expect to be patted on the back; it's your job.

You might not laugh so much if you knew how close to the truth this really was.

CORRECTIONS AND AMPLIFICATIONS:

An earlier version of this post contained a quotation attributed to Lenin (“Socialized medicine is the keystone to the arch of the socialist state”) that has been widely disputed. And it included a quotation attributed to Churchill (“Control your citizens’ health care and you control your citizens“) that the Journal has been unable to confirm.
:lmao:

This debacle is a godsend for the GOP.

It sucks for the country but if you are looking at it purely as some GOP politician looking to gain or keep an elected office, you have to secretly love this massive mistake.

I doubt this. I continue to believe the Tea Party antics hurt the Republicans far worse than Obamacare hurts the Democrats. But we'll see in a few months...

Obama administration knew millions could not keep their health insurance

By Lisa Myers and Hannah Rappleye, NBC News
President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.

Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC News that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”

None of this should come as a shock to the Obama administration. The law states that policies in effect as of March 23, 2010 will be “grandfathered,” meaning consumers can keep those policies even though they don’t meet requirements of the new health care law. But the Department of Health and Human Services then wrote regulations that narrowed that provision, by saying that if any part of a policy was significantly changed since that date -- the deductible, co-pay, or benefits, for example -- the policy would not be grandfathered.

Bah! Just nonsense dribble from that right wing news site NBC.

You mean the antics of wanting a one year delay of the ACA so that the administration could fix this mess before rolling it out to the public? I think voters are going to read things a little differently than you think

You may very well be right. I wrote that last night before reading that NBC News article. That opened my eyes. I think Obama might be in real trouble over this.

Again, this was plainly obvious to everyone in 2009. Some people knew what was in the bill before it was passed and said so.

Of course, the liberals shouted them down, but it still happened.

I blame the lapdog press for not pushing Obama on this issue before the bill was passed when it was obvious that this would happen.

 at anyone who thought the federal government was going to be able to administrate healthcare without delivering an inferior product at a dramatically inflated cost. Sheep. :lmao:

The federal government isn't administering healthcare.
Oh, so now people are saying that healthcare isn't the same as health insurance. I thought the left has been saying for years they were one in the same?!

Not sure what to tell you. Healthcare is administered by doctor's, hospitals, insurance companies, etc. The government is implementing regulations/laws.

I knew it would be bad, but didn't realize just HOW bad.

what's happening right now today is horrible, and I mean horrible for dems and especially Obama. But its going to pale in comparison to when the Employer Mandate kicks in. The individual mandate only really affects lets say 15-25% of the people in this country. Can you imagine the other 80% of people in this country getting similarly screwed by this law a year from now.

I don't get the uproar over the NBC article. Didn't everyone know years ago that lots of people were going to have their existing plans cancelled? This should have been obvious, given that so many existing plans didn't meet the new requirements for ACA-compliant plans.

"Everyone" should have paid attention to these boards in 2009 when we told them this would happen.

FYI .. I'm on your side here.

I'm still confused at how we can let the poor go without dental insurance. In a country as prosperous and wealthy as ours, people are forced to have cavities and gum disease. It's sickening.

Pediatric dental benefits are an Essential Health Benefit and must be covered either by the plan or by a stand alone dental plan. We don't, apparently, care about adult's teeth.
