2 days ago my brother went to the hospital because he had a sore on his back.  Yesterday they got test results back and found that his cancer had spread to his liver, lungs and all over.  They said he had a couple weeks to live.  Today at about 3, i talked to a nurse who said he might not make it through the weekend.  Before I even finished the 3 hour drive they had downgraded him to won't last through the night.

He was able to open his eyes and talk a little, and I brought him a craft beer because that's one of his things.  His eyes lit up and for a minute he was happy and lifted himself up for the only time of the day so he could hold it and sip it without help.  Mostly he's just having difficulty breathing and falling into and out of sleep while my mother and I sit with him.

I've talked about his bouts with mental illness and homelessness and the police and just trying to get him home and to a safe place.  He's had a tough run in life and he brought some of it on himself but he deserved a lot better than what life gave him.  I am going to miss the kid I looked up to when I was young, the brilliant young man who scored 1470 out of 1600 on his SATs and graduated from one of the top schools in the world, the adult I used to visit at the mental hospital and take him out to play magic the gathering at a Chinese buffet into they went John pinette on us, and the adult who came back after life kept kicking him down and became my friend again. I wasn't always the best brother but I always tried and I know you did your share of trying too. I know these next hours are going to be difficult and I can't help you with that but I'll be here with you while you go and that's the best I can do.

There will be no funeral, no mass.  I'll drive my mom home when this is done and we'll look at pictures and tell stories and cry but his friends from here have moved across the country,  my dad is in Florida and there's very little in the way of extended family left.  He'll have a small plot with a stone for his ashes and only a few of us will know who he was.

I love you buddy. Once again i wish there was more I could do. You've lived a tough life and after 45 years you've earned some rest.

Once in a while I’ll pop into this thread and I’m so glad I did today. This post was so touching. Those memories are precious. All my best bostonfred.

Tell your wife fish oil is a waste of money.

Why not just eat fish?

Oh, I do. And my total and "bad" cholesterol are quite low. But my "good" cholesterol is also too low. And don't get me started on the triglycerides, which are comparable to Jabba the Hutt.

Mr krista added sumac-roasted rack of spring lamb to the Easter brunch buffet menu.  Jesus Christ.

I wish I was there.  I sounds like an amazing feast.  In general, I would love to eat at his restaurant.  Have you guys considered opening up a restaurant in Hoboken?  Maybe within a few blocks of my apartment?

YOU tell my wife. It's like you don't understand women

I've told her numerous times, and told her it's a waste to drive 20+mins for it.

My apartment is only a 5 minute walk to the water so it would be a great location for my laziness.  Combined with that view of the NYC skyline, that would be a great location.  It's mostly restaurants along the waterfront for that reason.

I do understand women which is why I'm blunt with them. The dancing around stuff is a stupid game if you get caught in that, it's for life.  Better to just nip it in the bud with a firm "no".

Hopefully this information will help you guys out with women.  5 Deadly Words Used by a Woman:

1 - "Fine" – This is the word women use when they want to end an argument and she wants you to shut up.

2 - "Nothing" – Means something and you need to be worried.

3 - "Go Ahead" – This is a dare, not permission, do not do it.

4 - "Whatever" – A woman’s way of saying “screw you”.

5 - "That’s ok" – She is thinking long and hard on how and when you will pay for your mistake.

Bonus Word – "WOW!" – This is not a compliment.  She’s amazed that one person could be so stupid.

Close, $136

The best part is, before we left, she knew I was against it, but tried to change my mind by telling me we could get some snacks for me, because now that my company was sold, us remaining employees had to move out of our office, and into a new office. There are no vending machines in the new digs, so she said I should get some to take.

So we get there and are walking around, come upon the big boxes of chips, and I pick one out, as I'm grabbing the box, she says "Do you really need that? You're trying to eat healthy and probably shouldn't get that stuff'

Me:

Her: "Just sayin"

Me:  Throw the box in the basket

How's the housing market there?  What kind of gifts do you have to give house sellers?

Housing is expensive but worth it, and the value is still increasing so when you sell in a year or 2 you will make a profit.  My place is worth about double what I bought it for 15 years ago.  But IMO it's more than just the value of the real estate.  It's just a great place to live with tons of things to do.

I guess I would give some kind of alcohol as a gift.  You can't go wrong with a nice bottle of wine or champagne.

We went yesterday to look for a few birthday gifts.  One thing was 10% off $60 but I checked amazon and they had it for $40

picked up a few things but definitely no “deals”

My doc told me to take Flush-free Niacin to get my good cholesterol up.

Oral sex can also be a great last minute gift, depending on the situation

I'm sure your buddy would have been happy if you had just bought him a few beers, but I guess it's the thought that counts.

Yeah, I've taken like eight of mine in the last six months. I'm horrible about taking meds.
