And lol....IBs post made me remember ALL of our babysitters for the kids when they were young were NYU Tisch performing arts (acting) students. None of them are in the industry now as 30ish yos. My HS friends who did BFAs in acting are all also not in the performing industries.

My brother got an MFA in acting where he met his wife. They both worked and then got into teaching and running acting schools to make ends meet ehile still taking ofd actung jobs here and there. She has been the head of the theater dept at a great local private HS for 30+ years. Hes been acting adjacent with a lot of stuff, and has also used his MA in English to get into writing and publishing. They struggle, but make ends meet and took care of their two daughters

I forget do we have some people in here who’s kids went to college for performing arts or anything like that? Or maybe on that path?

@El Floppo @Fish ?

Oldest is a Jr in high school and seems to be the path he wants to go down. Curious how that’s played out for anyone as far as career opportunities. Im supportive but also like “hey buddy what’s your plan B?”
what does your son do?

My college freshman son is a performer- music (juilliard pre-college during HS), acting, musical theater, acapella, rock/pop bands, writing music...anything on a stage is his happy place.

He went to an amazing NYC public school during his middle school years called The Special Music School- k-12 school focusing on individual classical music. His classmates even then were doing and winning competitions around the world in violin and piano. Crazy place. He started to realize there that he wanted a more academic route- and opted out of staying there for HS where it turned into a conservatory prep. His Juilliard years in HS made him realize further that he didnt want to go the conservatory route for college (although he got into Berklee with the hope of doing a joint program with a couple colleges he didnt get into).

He chose his liberal arts school mostly based on the performing opportunities, both within the curriculum and extracurricular. Will probably dual major with music and something- finance, neuro studies, or minor in music.

Long term, i can see him staying in music or music tangent somehow- maybe not professionally performing for a living, but writing or in production or on the finance side of it depending on his studies. Its in his dna. But yeah- he always realized it was going to be Plan A2...son of a poor architect, hes always been cash aware and wants to follow his bliss to something viable and secure.

@Rustoleum kid is in a music conservatory.
He currently just does band, plays the bass and has acted in a couple high school plays and once local youth theatre play that got canceled

He’s also just started vocal lessons

He’s definitely passionate about it and not something I plan to talk him out of, but yeah, I’m also assuming there’s a good chance he ends up living in our basement

I mean...those are all things you can also do while gettng your BA in something else. I know you know this...but definitely an option for him. Plus, those performance based programs are legit hard to get into.

Yeah, as of a few months ago he was planning to do something in biology and do this stuff on the side. He’s even said he knows he probably needs a day job to pay the bills so he can do this stuff on the side

Seems like he’s changed course recently though. I think he knows he probably has a barely above zero chance of getting into his preferred school but knows some people who went to a smaller directional school so that seems to be his backup

He’s also 16 and could change his mind again next year when he needs to finalize applications

hot damn, masters degrees, architects, struggling to make ends meet in NYC... how the hell do regular 9-5ers without degrees get by?

move the Floppo's out this way. you could buy a compound and hire flunkies to trim your nails.

Cousin went the artistic route. Ended up as head of USC woodworking shop. He’s now head of a branch of the art dept at USC. Never rich, but seems pretty happy.

Little brother went music. Works at Dolby. Married well 😂 she works in the booze industry. They can afford to live in the Bay Area.

I wonder about myself sometimes. I can count cards while chatting with the pit boss, but I can't recognize that replacing a part on your CPAP when you're 1200 miles from home and the old part works is silly. Now neither of them work and I'm sleeping in a chair. I hate the absent-minded professor stereotype, but I reinforce it on the regular.

Doubling up here...

Need some advise....

I have an online account with Betonline. Not much in there. I funded it with a debit card. :bag:

In order to withdraw, the option to go back into my debit card is not there. Which I probably knew going in. So it looks like the best way to withdraw is:

1. Ask for BTC or some crypto currency in the withdrawal window.
2. Send to a digital wallet? (I don't have this unless Google wallet is acceptable).
3. Send from wallet to Coinbase (I have that).
4. Send from Coinbase to my bank.

Is that about right? Any recommendations on a digital wallet? Any other steps I need or am missing?

Thanks,

Old man Malaise

I think you should just be able to use Coinbase as your digital wallet.

I am getting stern warnings NOT to do that.....they can flag my account or something.
When have you ever followed stern warnings?

That's a good question....and point.

I suppose when it comes to having my money locked up for not following stern warnings, then I kind of pay attention?

Yeah don’t do direct to coinbase

Back in the day I used to use Blockchain wallet for this. Might be better wallets options but I never had issues with it

So yeah offshore sportsbook to wallet to coinbase is how you should proceed

Link to the wallet app I use

Oh, I looked for that option. I didn't see it. Can they do that? That's how we did it in the olden days.

just use the coinbase wallet.

Reddit is telling me NOT to do this. I don't know what I'm doing. I think I'll listen to Dan Lanning Lambskin here.
DanLambskin gave you the best advice.
He can't rank cheeses worth AF, but he knows about gambling.

Sportsbook - Blockchain (or other wallet) - Coinbase

Also, I have been using ETH lately as gas fees are lower and transactions are quicker. Also, a bit less vol when you are selling in Coinbase, but that's just me.

Get a digital wallet through blockchain. Tie it to coinbase. When you are depositing, deposit directly from coinbase to betonline. When you are withdrawing, withdraw from gambling degenerate site to blockchain, then transfer from blockchain to coinbase, then coinbase to your bank.

The gambling sites want a new address for every withdrawal, so they need a wallet to deposit to, not a coinbase account.

My socials have been flooded with political content this past week. I don't blame anyone but myself for the algorithm.
But today I learned that the social media personality "Parkergetajob" is NOT the same person as Dean Withers. Did anyone else get them confused or am I the only goober that thought they were the same person with slightly different haircuts? :bag:

Scheduled a dentist appt for midday today last week to look at a cracked tooth. Went at lunch time, as im crazed at work. New dentist for me (my sons dentist).

Got there 15 mins early to fill out paperwork etc and waited. And waited. People came in after me and went right in. Waited an hour, stood up and asked wtf. Oh, sorry. Please wait longer. Buh bye. An hour and a half wasted on a crazy busy day working towards a big meeting tomorrow. Left with the same cracked tooth not looked at.

5 minute citibike back to the office.

I got hit by a car...doored.

banged up pretty good, but nothing broken. sucky day.

How often do you get doored while riding a bike?

my gf works 4 10s a week, so she leaves at 5:45 am. this time of year it's still dark. I work from home and don't have any set schedule, so on weeknights when she's working I sleep in a spare room by the front of the house. this arrangement has worked fine for 2 years so far,

this morning at 5:45 I woke from a deep sleep to the sound of her car. only problem is I thought it was like 2 a.m. I looked outside and the brake lights were reflecting off my daughter's car, which isn't parked in the usual place because she was just visiting and used it. In my disoriented state, I decided that were two cars in the driveway and that someone was stealing my gf's car. I ran outside yelling threats and gibberish and then went back in to call the police. not until I went into the main bedroom to grab my phone did I realize she wasn't in bed and that she was leaving for work.

needless to say my gf was incredibly confused as to why I came running at her car in my underwear, yelling and swearing at her and then ran back in the house and locked the door behind me. if ever she had any doubts, she is now convinced that I'm a complete idiot.

4th time since 2003.

Ill be fine- i hit the door with hands, forearms left knee. I have full range of motion, just sore and scraped up.

I was doored once 20 years ago at full speed (20-25) sending me over the handlebars into busy traffic. 1973 f150 ran over my bike...she thought it was me as she felt the car go over a bump, and that she had killed me. Thank god her reactions were lightning fast, or else it wouldve been. That one left a mark...scarred my right chest (where i impaled onto the car door) and had a terrible concussion, along with my body just generally being beaten to ****.
