GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (7 Viewers)

My sister passed along about 20 minutes ago. My pain is acute, but my relief surpasses it. Such a kind and wonderful soul has left me and the world emptier than before.
I'm sorry.  I'm glad you knew her.  I'm glad you were there.  I'm glad she isn't hurting.

I'm sorry you are.

I have a ~6 year old that is fascinated by turtles. Absolutely loves them. He says he wants to “grow up and help them survive”. How do I nurture this and keep it going? I love his passion for wildlife and would to lead him to where he wants to go. We are members at Brookfield Zoo and go prolly 7-10 times a year but beyond that I’m lost. I’ve looked into their reptile programs and there isn’t much for anyone younger than 8.

Buy him a turtle.

Holy mother of turtles oceans 8 sucks

This might be the worst movie i've ever seen.

I honestly can't tell if it's supposed to be a parody.

She's explaining her planning for the big heist and just said well first i thought about banks and then i thought that's boring so then i thought about ten banks.

This movie is making me angry as a feminist. They've set the cause back twenty years

Feminism isn’t when just good movies starring women get made.  It means women get to make as many terrible movies as men do, too.

omg - it's so funny because it's true

Mr. Drinks On Me‏ @Mr_DrinksOnMe 41m41 minutes ago

A recent study has found that beer contains female hormones. A test group of 100 male volunteers each consumed six pints of beer, and the effect was that they all talked endlessly about nothing and couldn't drive for ####.

I'm back home in Austin. We will have a service here in the spring, so i proably won't need to head back to Boston anytime soon.

What was freaking me out the most was having to tell my parents their daughter was dead, Thye are both on hospice and I was very concerned one or both might become inconsolable and how I would deal with it.

Turns out my Uncle Joe told dad about it, even though he promised he wouldn't. And seems to barely affect them. It was rather disconcerting to find them so nonplussed about it, but suppose better than the alternatives I was imagining.

Anyway, all cool here I guess. TIme to get off the endless moping and back to the inappropriate joking.

I liked Helen Bonham Carter's performance,  but other than that it was pretty lame.

Much love, bro.

I got a new job and won’t be down in Austin anymore.  Sorry we couldn’t connect one last time.

Binky, bold move posting that pick in a thread that a certain someone is active in.  I'd recommend deleting it.  I tried PM'ing you but I think your inbox is full.

I recently got a new job too.  I used to work at a non-profit government consulting company but there was no future there.  The commute was shorter than going to midtown and I never had to work past 5pm, but I got bored really quick, the company has no leadership, and everybody there looks like they make their own clothes.  I was only there for a few months and I had to get out.  I'm now at a much more challenging company, which is a better fit for me.  It's a great long term opportunity and I got a nice raise, but I'm now back in midtown (longer commute) and I have to work longer hours.

my uncle danny died over the weekend.

93yo, having lead a full life- no thopraws needed.

just found over the summer that he had flown on a bomber in ww2 in active duty/combat. never knew that about him. mostly, I remember him as the first adult to break me of the pattern of respecting and listening to all adults. pretty much every interaction I had with him over the years was him ####ting on any plan or idea I had- fortunately, I had supportive and loving parents that allowed me to independently not internalize that negativity (and just come to that conclusion that some adults were as idiotic and assholish as kids an ignore him). his kids (my cousins) and my aunt, otoh, have lead unhappy lives where what they want to do is nipped in the bud as wrong or impossible- first externally by danny, and then after a lifetime of it, internalized on their own. all three cousins in miserable jobs, with miserable failed relationships... but fortunately all three pretty wonderful people outside of that- raising great kids that seem to have escaped whatever one-generational cycle happened.

having said all of that- danny was always there for me when called upon... especially providing some logistical help for my first couple years in NYC. and it sounds like his kids felt the same way, aside from the constant anger, judgement and negativity.

dunno why I'm writing this. I guess, RIP uncle danny. hope you've found some peace.

Seems funny to me that the greatest generation sucked so bad at parenting.

Life is good
I am back in the laundromat, watching my clothes spin in the dryer and eating a lemon jelly donut.

Oh whew, not ground hog day. It is my sheets in the dryer.
