I don't think I have looked forward to the end of school year this much since I was in grade school.  Can't wait for the daily battles to get their E-learning done is over and replaced with normal things like brushing their hair and fighting over barbies.

HELLO FROM REHAB!!!!   Not sure if anything's been shared but Sunday dinner at my parents' a couple weeks ago was in fact an elaborate ruse to stage an intervention.  Actually it wasn't very

Everybody take a minute tonight (or today) to raise a glass to HeckDad.  My sister just called to tell me that he passed away at home.  Don't have details other than he fell, but he was 94 with a bad

Some of the changes to commercials due to Covid are starting to get to me.

Amazon seems to think we should think more of them because "We are flying masks out to all our employees".  WTF if you are forcing them to work, you damn well better offer them the proper PPE.

1-800-GOT-JUNK has a new radio commercial where they are going over their new procedures and the lady asks "If I text you a picture of my junk, will you tell me how much it will cost to get rid of it" and every time I start laughing wondering how many dic picks they get now.

Every car commercial has been like that too.  "We're here to help... (you buy our cars).  Visit our websites for the help you need."

I have a theory about why beer is good for you.  Picture a herd of buffalo, which can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo.  When the herd is hunted, it’s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first.  This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells.  Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells.  But, naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.  As a result, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.  That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

Manatees are just proof that a diet of salad does not prevent obesity.

Water speed bumps is acceptable as well

My wife and I have gone kayaking at Fort De Soto Park south of St. Pete Beach a couple of times. Saw manatees both times. One of them tried to mate with our kayak on one of the outings, which was a little alarming.

That's a good spot for them. Weedon Island too (if they ever open the kayak trails again..maybe now). I live near a power plant on the water and the manatees congregate there in Winter since the water is warmer. I've probably seen 100+ manatees in the lagoon at one time and boy can they stink up the place. Another great place to see a lot of them is Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge near Sanibel Island. Great place for sure.

If I don't find a job soon, I'm going to be one of those people on the news whose neighbors say, "I never would have guessed it. He was always so quiet."

Fort De Soto Park is just amazing in general. We actually briefly entertained the idea of retiring to Tierra Verde, but then we realized two issues with that plan: (1) rising sea levels, and (2) we'd live in Florida.

Didn't realize you were in this situation. Thinking good thoughts for you. I won't tell you how long I went between gigs.

I shaved my head a couple weeks back - it's been getting thin up front and starting to creep toward combover territory, so between that and the rest getting shaggy during the lockdown, decided it was time.

Ironically, the hardest part to get shaved really smooth is the same area that was getting thin - that bit always feels stubbly/fuzzy, even right after I'm done with it.

So I mentioned a while ago that my wife got shingles around the start of all the COVID stuff. That was fun. It then set off an MS attack for her necessitating she be on steroids. That’s been fun. Steroids make her borderline manic, and with her actually having mania induced by medication previously that lead to hospitalization, that’s been a whole lot of fun.

Now we’re headed to urgent care because in running around thanks to the virtual mania, she fell down the stairs and may have broken her ankle. Good times.

I didn’t feel like it would be productive posting this in the COVID thread and hopefully I don’t get chastised because this leans political and it’s in the FFA, but as an elder of a church that has been very conservative in looking out for the health of our congregation and community in a state hit hard by COVID, I am beyond livid that such a nakedly political decision like this was made. Ugh.

I mentioned in the prior music draft thread, I got the damn bells palsy!  A little over 2 weeks ago I noticed that my tongue was numb when I brushed my teeth and I had a metallic taste in my mouth.  It tasted just like after you get shot up with novocaine at the dentist.

Then a couple days later I noticed I couldn't blink just my right eye ...well the following 2-3 days, my face started drooping quite a bit.  I called my doctor, who isn't seeing people in person and he was also concerned about a stroke (I was not ...since the symptoms occurred over a 5-6 days of time.  Anyway ...I had to go to the emergency room 2 Mondays' ago and get looked over.  They did a MRI and there was no tumor (made me very happy) and said there was a lot of inflammation in my sinus/ear cavity and was likely putting pressure on the facial nerves.

I went to an ENT guy yesterday and he was reassuring with the improvement in the drooping over just that period of time.  He prescribed a week of prednisone that may help with the inflammation - but wreaks havoc on my blood sugar.

Happy for the progress, not so happy with still having a drooped face ...at least I can wear a mask!!

Do you have control over your own place of worship in terms of opening or closing?

Actually we meet in a school, so we don’t. So in our particular case, things are a bit easier for us in decision making because we won’t be meeting on Sunday mornings again until schools in NJ are allowed to have outside groups in and our school allows it.

And I’m perfectly fine with that because frankly I’d rather follow guidance issued by public health officials that know more about exactly what is going on than I do (not saying they don’t get it wrong at times or things don’t get political).

I get why people are pushing to re-open businesses because folks need to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. I get why smaller churches in areas that haven’t been impacted much may be wanting to get back together, but I really don’t understand it for churches in higher density areas or areas that have been impacted in a major way.

Mostly I’m just frustrated for us and for many other churches who have been trying to think through and carefully plan out what things look like, phasing, protocols, creative solutions, etc and suddenly found ourselves scrambling on a Friday night to figure things out immediately at least enough to make some decisions and communicate that out to the rest of the church. Churches have done more than enough to make themselves, and by proxy other churches, look selfish and uncaring for a long time. Rushing things and putting church members and the larger community around them at greater risk is foolish and frustrating.

I missed the mob scene in Daytona Beach today, but I did enjoy my first lunch outdoors on the water (river) in 3 months.

Since when?

I laid down for a bit, and that was really good for my legs, but I didn't fall asleep. So I got up and pounded a ridiculous coffee drink. Gonna practice a little video poker on my computer, play my guitar, probably cure the 'rona by dawn. Oh, and toke it up.
