GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (7 Viewers)

Today's my grandfather's 91st birthday. He served in the navy and was honored with a purple heart.

I am thinking of him and how he can't go out in florida because people are selfish #######s.

Same device or different?  If I try to post from my phone and I’m logged into my laptop, I get kicked off.

Nyc shops appear to be boarding up in anticipation of the election.

That going on where you all live?
I've been told by several FBGs who don't live here that I should avoid downtown Portland because it's been run over by left leaning ruffians who are destroying the city.  I'll take their word for it.

I used to love election day. Now it seems like Taps is the official soundtrack of the ballot box. I assume that's for our Constitution, but I'll take spoilers.

My bar is open  :oldunsure:

Oh...yeah. everywhere is still open. They're just boarding up the windows.

But nyc is a complete ghost town. Other than all the people going to/from work and going out to sidewalk restaurants and shops that make the city seem busier than ever before (because everybody is outside on the sidewalks living their lives rather than inside). Other than those things with all the people and whatnot, complete ghost town.

I hope I'm right on this, but I don't see much of anything happening either way the election goes tomorrow. I don't see either side going out "looting".

Maybe in NY. It'll happen somewhere.

If Trump wins could definitely see Antifa looting and vandalizing buildings.  If Biden wins could definitely see rednecks vandalizing Antifa.

Our neighbor has a black lab. She usually stays in her yard but on a very few occasions has come over to me while I was doing yard work.  Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we noticed her walking around our front yard, which basically never happens.  There was no sign of the neighbor, and it was supposed to get really cold out the next night and my wife was worried that she was going to be stuck outside overnight, so she set out some food and water at the edge of the yard just in case. But she couldn't get the dog to come over to her.

Next day, the dog was still outside, still no sign of the neighbor (we eventually called the town cops for a wellness check and he's fine), so she tried again to make friends, and this time the dog basically decided she's now the best person in the world.  We think the dog is starved for attention/playtime; her owner is an older guy.

So, fast-forward to yesterday.  Wife is leaving the house to go see the doctor about back spasms,, and 30 seconds after the door closes, she calls me and says she needs a little help in the driveway.  So I walk outside and she's sitting in the car with the door open.  And I come around the door to see a black lab sitting on the floor under the steering wheel, just as happy as could be. :lmao:

Apparently, Jaime saw the dog outside and got out of the car to say hello.  The dog came running over, jumped up and literally hugged her, and wouldn't leave her alone, to the point of jumping into the car with her.

tl;dr - dogs are awesome and my wife is trying to steal one from the neighbor.

heads up be very careful in any discussion having to do with election.  some other guy just got 6 months for saying along the lines that the hosts of "The Five" were not smart.

My cat used to go in the neighbors house and hang out with them

also used to bring us gifts he’d find in people garages...rags, old clothes, curtains

Most stories I hear about "gifts" from their cat are a bit more gruesome.

ETA - then again, I'd have to see the curtains.
IIRC I think the curtains got stuck on the fence

also one of the first things he brought were some ladies clothes that were not my moms, she grilled my dad pretty hard on that

When I was a kid, the neighbor’s Doberman would come to the front door of every house on the bottom of the street. You’d let him in, he’d do a lap/inspection of your first floor, then go to the door to be let out so he could proceed to the next house.

Just last night the pit bull/murder dog from around the corner had gotten loose and barged in when I was trying to leash my dog to lead him back to his yard. Fortunately I had met this dog (and my dog had too) before and know the owner. Imagine a knee high, super friendly bulldozer. Pretty sure if he had decided to take up permanent residence and take my spot on the couch, I would be posting this from the floor....

My grandmother had a Siamese cat that was truly outdoor in every sense of the word. She basically stole him from a neighbor in FL when she moved back north since she took care of him and the neighbor was mostly AWOL. The cat never saw a chipmunk before moving to the western suburbs of Milwaukee. So as a reward for my grandmother taking such good care of him, he presented her with a chipmunk in his mouth one day at the door. The chipmunk was most certainly not dead and proceeded to freak out and run around my grandmother's place while the cat was just sitting and watching the fun. Cats!

I know a guy who merely quoted the President of the United States
I know a guy who said he didn't mind the posting styles in the college football thread of a certain poster who likes a football team in Georgia that isn't very good and would not be ignoring him when prompted to do so, followed by a comparison of said poster to one of Sponge Bob's lovable friends.  5 weeks for that one.....

"OMG. Trump has Covid. Prayers, risk to the country, etc"
"Don't worry. One day it will be like a miracle. It will just disappear."

Drama seems to follow my family wherever we go. We’re in the mountains for a few days to relax and ended up having to call 911. 3/4 of the way through our hike and we suddenly came upon a brush fire. It was actually blocking the trail so I had to backtrack to the road and hike along the road a bit to get back to the car and get the heck out of there before I got blocked in. Called 911 (apparently a few other people did as well). Ended up getting passed by a tanker fire truck heading there on our way back to our cabin. Crazy.

There are a gazillion cops out on my corner tonight.

It's in the 60s, gorgeous night. People are out in huge numbers....eating and drinking. In our ghost town.  Hopefully the cops will keep them from puking in our doorway (looking at you @RC94). #lawandorder

Thanks for the heads up.

I have morning sickness.  :oldunsure:

Been going on for months. About one day out of ten, I wake up queasy. Today I threw up my morning medication, which is a particularly crappy way to start your day.

I always have an effective anti-emetic on hand, but smoking it at 0630 on a Saturday does not make one particularly productive

as the inestimable Kool Moe Dee once said you need to "go see the doctorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

I wouldn't have known what the hell that was until 3 weeks ago.

My MIL is living with us until her house gets finished (about a mile down the street).

She's 87 but looks late 60s and is healthy as a horse.  Watches either Game Show Network or Fox News (mostly).

Scary stuff - though quite a bit more tame compared to when I saw some of their stuff a few years ago.
Good to hear GSN has toned it down.
