RB Christian McCaffrey, SF (2 Viewers)

Stanford junior RB Christian McCaffrey struggled to find running room in Friday's 44-6 loss to Washington, rushing for 49 yards on 12 carries.
Washington held McCaffrey to his lowest yardage total since September 12, 2015, when he rushed for 58 yards against UCF. In the space between those two uneventful contests, he had rushed for at least 90 yards in 15 consecutive games. The Huskies limited the star junior to 4.1 YPC and more or less eliminated him as a receiver (he caught five passes for 30 yards). While this was a disappointing showing, it should be remembered that Washington houses one of the best defenses in the country. Stanford's next opponent -- Washington State -- does not.

Stanford junior RB Christian McCaffrey suffered an undisclosed injury in the second half of Saturday's loss to Washington State.
McCaffrey was escorted to the locker room in the third quarter of the 42-16 loss and was later seen jogging back to the sideline. He did not reenter the game. Explained HC David Shaw, "McCaffrey did get banged up. But there was no reason to put him in late in the game. We just left him out. We'll see how he is during the course of the week." Fantasy owners should have backup options at the ready depending on how McCaffrey's practice week progresses. Stanford plays Notre Dame next Saturday. They have yet to score more than 27 points in a game this season.

I don't even care. He's shown more than enough and I just want him healthy come combine/draft time personally. He's not seriously injured but for me, I don't need to see more so it doesn't bother me really.

Stanford junior RB Christian McCaffrey was stupendous in Saturday's 45-31 win over Cal, rushing for 284 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries.
All three of McCaffrey's scores came in the second half, highlighted by a 90-yard touchdown dash several minutes after the third quarter commenced. The 6-foot, 202-pound junior averaged 9.1 YPC in the victory. He has been nothing short of majestic down the 2016 stretch, posting four consecutive games of at least 135 yards rushing. For the season as a whole, he has picked his way to 1,392 yards and 12 touchdowns. In addition, he has caught 36 passes for 294 yards and two scores.

Stanford junior RB Christian McCaffrey rushed for 204 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries in the school's 41-17 win over Rice.
McCaffrey added another 23 receiving yards and a touchdown on two catches. Over the past five games, McCaffrey's lowest offensive yardage output was the 187 against Oregon... on just 22 touches. He has been the dominant player we all expected in that span. McCaffrey could be playing his final collegiate game in the next few weeks. It is much watch television.

Mccaffrey 3 seasons - 3915 rush yards, 21 rush tds, 1213 receiving yards, 100 receptions, 10 rec tds, 1859 return yards, 2 ret tds - 6987 all purpose yards, 33 tds.

Who's this RB? 3 season - 3169 rush yds, 25 rush tds, 1301 rec yds, 95 rec, 13 rec tds, 2121 return yes, 4 ret tds - 6591 all purpose yards, 42 tds.

Reggie Bush was pretty disappointing in the NFL though.  Hope someone uses McCaffrey better than that (and he stays healthier), and that to me is why he's the riskiest guy in this draft and the most reliant upon situation.  I won't be able to truly rank him until the first week in May.

I'm very excited to see what Caff can do at the next level. He's an easy top 5 dynasty pick in PPR dynasty leagues next year. Vamooooooooooooooo!

AFC personnel director said that the draft grades on Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey "are going to be all over the place."
"Teams that run a lot of three- and four-wide looks will like him because he can run those inside zone plays out of the shotgun and they can also motion him out of the backfield and just try to mismatch him," the personnel director said. On the other side, he believes that some teams will view C-Mac as more of a complimentary piece than an out-and-out workhorse. The 6-foot, 202-pounder will be sitting out the Sun Bowl against North Carolina on Friday, but NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah does not think will matter for his draft stock.

McCaffrey averaged 23 carries per game this year and 25 per game last season.  That does not include receptions.  I think he's perfectly suited to be a workhorse RB.  I can't wait to see his NFL career.  I think he's going to be great!

You can't be serious.  You really think he's "perfectly suited to be a workhorse RB"?  In the NFL?  Not a chance. EZ is a workhorse.  Christian McCaffrey?  Please.

Edelman/Crowder/Welker.

He's a good college football player without a position in the NFL.  Slower and less dynamic version of Percy Harvin / Reggie Bush.  I'll give him that he has his father's tenacity, toughness, and durability but his frame is not one of a RB in the NFL and he has virtually no chance to carve out a meaningful role at the next level at that position.  I'll be watching to see what his explosion and timed numbers are at the combine and which team ultimately takes the chance on the guy, but any thoughts about his contributions in fantasy football must be tempered with reality.  He will never be a workhorse RB in the NFL and he is not a WR at this point.  He may be a quality athlete and person, but that does not guarantee production in the NFL or fantasy football.  My bet is that some team will draft the guy in the 3rd to early 4th rds and hope to turn him into Julian Edelman over time.

I'll say that there's little to no chance he gets to the 3rd round.  Name recognition alone will lead a team to him in the 2nd, possibly late 1st even if he does well at the combine as I imagine he will (sub 4.5 40, 37"+ vertical, good shuttle, and catches the ball well).  He may not be a 20 carry per game RB, but he can absolutely be a 20 touch per game player with something like 12-14 carries, 3-5 catches, and a few returns.

I'm totally serious. His skin color has him way undervalued by the FF community. I trust my eyes and this guy will be a stud at the next level.

You are probably right based on name recognition and that his dad overachieved in the NFL, but a 1st would be totally crazy to me.  I really don't see sub-4.5 speed on the guy judging by how he plays in pads and in his game film on draftbreakdown.com.  4.55 maybe, but it is more long speed when he's in the open with a very pedestrian first step that just doesn't jump off the screen to me at all.  Again, I'll be looking for his combine numbers that he now has a chance to improve over the next two months.  He's a smart kid obviously and will wind himself up tight for the combine.  His game film showed me what I need to see and it just isn't that special to me, especially for a guy who is 200 lbs and 6' tall.  He is going to get murdered by elite NFL talent if he isn't extremely elusive at that weight, and he just isn't.  He's not a pile mover and he's not an elusive (Dion Lewis / Sproles type) scat back.  There is not a single team in the NFL that will routinely give him 20 touches a game at that size.  He's reminding way too much of a combination of Don Brown and Toby Gerhart, only much smaller, which means I will gladly let someone else overpay in rookie drafts for him.

I agree he will be a very good football player.  But your eyes deceive you when you claim that "he is perfectly suited to be a workhorse running back".

Pro Football Focus analyst Jordan Plocher compared Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey's playing style to that of former Rams RB Marshall Faulk.
Plocher writes that McCaffrey's "playing style, high football IQ, vision & versatility" are reminiscent of Faulk, adding that the Stanford standout is "part RB/part WR." Golden words, for sure. A consensus as to just where McCaffrey will land in the draft does not yet appear to have coalesced, though. In December, an AFC personnel director predicted that the running back's grades "are going to be all over the place," depending on whether teams view him as a true bellcow or more of a complimentary option. We have seen several mock drafts which have him landing with the Patriots at the end of Round 1, but until we are further along in the process, such projections should be considered nothing more than speculative thought experiments.

I think McCaffery has to have the perfect situation (game manager QB, an oline who can run block, a scheme that bakes in all kinds of run plays) to stand out. I think KC would be that situation, and he would get a bit of passes tossed to him as well

Or any high flying offense that will keep the other team off balance.

Player A - 5'11", 206 lb, 4460 rush yards, 935 receiving yards, 48 tds in 3 years, 4.49 40 yard dash, 10.9 100 meter in high school

Player B - 6'0", 200 lb, 3900 rush yards, 1200 receiving, 31 tds in 3 years, 4.5 40 yard dash, 10.89 100 meter in high school

Hmm, which guy is Dalvin Cook and which guy is Christian McCaffrey? Yet to some, one guy is special and one guy is white.

I know. I actually have Cook and McCaffrey pretty much tied from a talent perspective. It's damn close. I have CMac just a smidge higher. Fournette is 3 for me.
I applaud you going out on a limb here. When I'm looking at prospects I sometimes don't agree with the community at large but when it comes time to draft I have a harder time sticking to my guns. It seems with mccaffery everyone thinks he's either a bum or he will be decent, not elite.

These size numbers don't look accurate.

ESPN (as well as most other sites it looks like) have Cook listed at playing at 214lbs this year and McCaffrey at 200lbs.  That's a big difference since one of the reasons McCaffrey is valued lower is that the expectations seem to be that Cook will be a feature back while McCaffrey will be a committee/receiving back.

I guess the combine will tell the true story on the weights but even just looking at them the notion that McCaffrey was actually 6lbs heavier than Cook this year seems pretty hard to believe.

McCaffrey wasn't 6 lbs heavier because player A is Cook. I checked a couple places and the most recent one I saw was Cook at 206. But yes, the combine will give us more info. 40 time will also be very interesting.

Until I see a white RB actually be a star in the NFL, I'll refrain from drafting one high. I had this argument with people on this board who bragged about how good Gerhart's measureables were too. My only argument that he wouldn't be a star was that he was white. It's the same with McCaffrey. He will not be a star.

Let's come up with some objective "star" measurable and I'll lay 2-1 odds with anyone that he won't hit it.

I expect the team drafting him to not even attempt to make him a 3 down back. I see him getting Reggie Bush'ed.

No one seriously thought Gerhart would be a star. There's a reason he was the 51st pick of the draft. There were no RBs taken after him in the 2010 draft who've become stars; the most successful was Ben Tate, who's out of the league, and James Starks.

I'm pretty sure the reason Tate and Starks (and Hardesty and Joe McKnight) failed to become stars has nothing to do with the fact that they're black.

You're wrong on Gerhart in regards to the boards. Maybe no NFL team thought he would be a star, but plenty of people on the forums did.

People think all kinds of things. Some people thought Hardesty would be a star, too. The reason Gerhart failed to become a star is that he's slow (which everyone knew) and not shifty (which was also relatively obvious). NFL talent scouts, who actually get paid to do this, pegged him as a late second rounder because of his qualities as a runner, not because he was white.

Most people are mocking McCafferry in the mid-late first, so they think he's better than Gerhart. (And he is). If he does reasonably well at the combine that's probably where he'll go. And he'll probably have at least a Darren Sproles-type career. Will he be an elite RB? Probably not or he'd be getting drafted higher. But he's got good agility, good speed, and very good pass-catching ability for a RB; it's hard to imagine he'd fail to contribute somewhere.

I can get on board with a Sproles-type role for McCaffrey.

Oh I have no doubt he'll contribute somewhere. In fact I'm on record as saying he'll be a better NFL player than fantasy, but there are quite a few on this forum and others who are of the impression he will be a fantasy stud and the best RB in this class, which is what I vehemently disagree with.
