Cam Newton started 14 not counting Juco.I am drawing a blank, are there examples of success in the nfl after starting only 13 games in college?
Brad Johnson was never really the starter at Florida State (249 career pass attempts) and threw for 29,000 yards in the NFL.I am drawing a blank, are there examples of success in the nfl after starting only 13 games in college?
Says the king of mindless chatterLD will forever be the antagonist. Heath has no clue what he's talking about. Making huge judgement on a player he could never know those things about. And as usual, if Trubisky turns out to be good, Heath will never acknowledge anything he ever said about him. Never amount to anything near a starter or a leader of men, eh Heath? Yeah whatever dude. Like you have any clue about any of that. Just more mindless chatter that no one will every remember. Idiot
He can gain experience at the pro level when his time comes. Ideally, he can take his time to learn the offense. Hopefully, Glennon does a good job so the team around him can be in much better shape when he's ready to take over. Sounds great in theory. So, not a lot of history of success. Just seems like a serious leap of faith to me given his lack of college experience. Time will tell.
Dickerson may normally be unfair to the Bears, but I don't think he is off base here. Pace took big risks and seemed to reach with almost every pick. I liked Mahomes and Kizer better than Trubisky, both went later. Shaheen is an interesting prospect, but there are guys I like almost as much that went in the fifth and sixth rounds, Sprinkle, Kittle, Hodges, and Butt. Cohen could add a dynamic element to the offense, but I like Pomphrey better, and McNichols and Mack went after Cohen. Mack and McNichols are dynamic, can catch the ball, but can also run between the tackles. If the Packers or the Patriots made picks like this you trust them because they have shown a track record of identifying talent. In my opinion, Pace hasn't so I am skeptical.Jeff Dickerson may be my most hated Bears writers. He absolutely hates the Bears and loves to see them fail so he can write that ####. Seriously, he is the freaking worst. I bet I could dig up his analysis from last year's draft and it sounded similar.
over under is 4.If they're healthier, they should be much better. Stable qb. Defense stays healthy. Team was a disaster with injuries and no qbs most of the season. 3 new starters in secondary should help. But I can't say he's added the right talent to make them significant contributors this season. I'd say 7 wins is the absolute max they will win. Likely 6
Never said it was a successful offseason. I didn't like FA. Outside of a qb, I can't say I'm excited about the draft either. I said I think they will be better with a stable qb and if they stay healthy.over under is 4.
Becoming healthy is not a successful off season. It's simply treading water. When you look at the free agent signings there are a lot of short term band aids. When you look at the draft, there are a lot of high risk/high reward players. You can't expect all of them to be successful moves. But estimating it at 50/50 success rate still puts us in a bad position.
The one caveat is if the Trubisky becomes a pro bowl QB. Just becoming the next Tannehill, Dalton, or Bortles isn't going to be good enough. But even if he does, the rest of the moves will only weigh him down.
Fans clamor to get rid of Jay. They do. Then they're pissed about how they went about replacing him with the first QB in the draft. Seriously, it's no wonder this city has never supported a qb.You guys seem a little down in here. Your draft wasnt that bad. I like the RB you got.
I do think its LOL funny that the general consensus coming from the writers and the team is that you are going to have to be patient for MT to develop. A #2 pick and you need to give him time to mature. Interesting.
Ho are Bears fans feeling about Pace at this point? He was well liked and respected at the Saints but he appears to be struggling in Chicago.Didn't even know we were taking Trubisky until an hour prior. Might be the biggest case of lame duck coach I've ever seen. Pace might as well start the hiring process now.
Without checking IIRC Tom Brady was a backup and maybe part time starter.Brad Johnson was never really the starter at Florida State (249 career pass attempts) and threw for 29,000 yards in the NFL.I am drawing a blank, are there examples of success in the nfl after starting only 13 games in college?
Cam Newton started 14 games at Auburn.
It's not like Trubisky wasn't capable of being the starter prior to his junior year. He was behind a guy that was winning games so the coach never took the job away.
The were a disaster when he arrived. I think most are willing to be patient with his plan. I wouldn't say he's strugglingHo are Bears fans feeling about Pace at this point? He was well liked and respected at the Saints but he appears to be struggling in Chicago.
I would be shocked if the Bears were favored over the Vikings, the Panthers, or the Lions at home. Maybe I could see them favored over the Eagles on the road.I think we have five home games we should or at least could be favored in:
Vikings, Panthers, Lions, 49ers and Browns
Road games which I think are winnable:
Saints, Bengals, Eagles, Lions, Vikings
We won't win all of those but 5 or so with one surprise win is not unbelievable.

I will kiss your ### if MT has as good of a rookie season as Wentz.Trubisky stronger arm than Wentz
Wentz college: 45/14 64%
612 pass attempts
Trubisky College: 41/10 67.5%
572 Pass attempts
Eagles give up 1st, 2nd, 3rd rounders for Wentz. Celebrations all around!
Bears give up 2 3rds and a 4th. How could they be so dumb!? Worst trade ever!
Is it not the assumption that those teams (as well as all teams in the league) are expected to get better in the off season? I see six possible wins. But that's giving the Bears a chance against Baltimore and New Orleans. Otherwise, 4 wins it is.They're not those teams. What do they have to do with the Bears? I'm comparing last year's Bears team, who won four games, to this year's team.
Now I definitely am not saying that will happen. I'm just giving some perspective. Wentz happened to get into the perfect situation and the perfect coach for him. And he was also in a more pro-style offense. Trubisky is entering a team that's not good and probably has a coach who's on his last leg. Really hope he doesn't have to play until the last few games.I will kiss your ### if MT has as good of a rookie season as Wentz.
The only one of these games I think they have no chance of winning is Atlanta, and maybe Pittsburgh. I think they have a shot at winning any of the rest. I can see them easily winning 6. If they don't, I'll come back to this post and say I was wrong. You guys sound like I'm saying they're making the playoffs. 6 Wins!Is it not the assumption that those teams (as well as all teams in the league) are expected to get better in the off season? I don't see enough change over last year to assume that we can win more than 4 games this year.
vs Atlanta - even if Falcons didn't get better, they will still be a 5 point favorite
@ Tampa Bay - Maybe Glennon wants to show his old team what they gave up. But then Winston will remind him why he's in Chicago.
vs Pittsburgh - This was an 11-5 team last year. They may have Bryant back at WR. Don't see a win here, even at home.
@ Green Bay - Throw out the records with this one. Except the record where we have lost 12 of the last 15 games against GB. (although 2 of them were at Lambeau)
vs Minnesota - This is a toss up. I would expect this game to have the Bears a 1 pt favorite. But, if they enter this game 0-4 they may be home dogs.
@ Baltimore - The Ravens had a down year last season. I still expect them to be a favorite at home for this game. Maybe the Bears surprise them.
vs Carolina - Don't see our D stopping panthers offense. Unlike the Bears, they added some talent in the off season that will produce right away.
@ New Orleans - See above. This team is setting up to run the ball like crazy. Bears have a chance because Saints didn't fix their Defense.
vs Green Bay - Bears come off a bye. GB comes off MNF against Lions. Can't get any more advantageous for the Bears. Will still be underdogs at home.
vs Detroit - Who knows what the Lions will bring this year. They could have 3 wins or they could make the playoffs. Bears have a chance at home.
@ Philadelphia - Some think the Bears can win here. I don't see it. Eagles got better by subtraction in the off season.
vs San Francisco - Finally a game we should be favored. But probably by less than a field goal. Should win this game. (Trubisky's first start?)
Right about now is when Pace fires Fox.
@ Cincinatti - Nope, not going to happen. At this point, the Bears will be out of playoff contention and the Bengals will be in it. Trubisky 1st start on the road)
@ Detroit - Tougher play on the road. Still a loss.
vs Cleveland - Battle for the #1 overall pick in the 2018 draft. Take note coaches, beating SF last year wasn't worth it.
@ Minnesota - It was a toss up game at home before. By now it will favor Minnesota.
Vegas disagrees. The only one of these games I think they have no chance of winning is Atlanta, and maybe Pittsburgh. I think they have a shot at winning any of the rest. I can see them easily winning 6. If they don't, I'll come back to this post and say I was wrong.
So you agree that the 49ers and the Browns will win fewer games than the Bears? (which Vegas predicts) But, you disagree with their assessment that they won't win less than the Rams, Jets and Jags? The Rams, Jets, and Jags are freaking terrible. No reason the Bears can't win more games than them.
I wast even thinking about Vegas. Just looked at that list and said Bears could easily win more than all of those teams. I look at last year. If they're healthier and they have the same qb all season, I think they can win more than 4 games. 6 isn't a stretch. And they are definitely not the worst team in the league. So you agree that the 49ers and the Browns will win fewer games than the Bears? The Rams added a lot of offense this off season. The Jags have a decent defense. Plus they have a new coach that is going to play keep away with the run game. The Jets, well they're the Jets. I hate thinking that the Bears could possibly be the worst team in the league. But, someone has to be.
Moral of the story, don't piss away your draft picks on lottery players. You might get lucky on one, but you'll never hit on all of them.
OK. But you are working on "ifs". If other teams do things, then it could be less than 4 games? I get the fact that the team may be healthier. He is struggling to some degree because the team has struggled. His last two first round picks have shown very little so far. He has had some good picks, some good free agent signings, and some bad ones. But overall the team got worse from his first year to his second. Hard to feel good about a GM when the team went from 6-10 in his first year to 3-13 in his second. And in this draft he took some huge risks. If Trubisky fails Pace will be gone. He has hitched his wagon to Trubisky for better or worse.Ho are Bears fans feeling about Pace at this point? He was well liked and respected at the Saints but he appears to be struggling in Chicago.
Sure. It could be zero games. Who knows. I think a stable qb position more than makes up for any potential improvements other teams have made and will add a couple more wins, at least. I think they should win 6 games. Not make the playoffs. I don't think 6 wins is a completely irrational projection.OK. But you are working on "ifs". Huh?! You think Floyd has shown very little? He is struggling to some degree because the team has struggled. His last two first round picks have shown very little so far. Floyd showed enough for me as a rookie... I think he is going to be an outstanding player for this team.Huh?! You think Floyd has shown very little?
He had some very good moments, but I thought he was very inconsistent.Huh?! You think Floyd has shown very little?
They all are. Still one of the top 5 defensive rookies from the class. Pace nailed the draft last year. Crushed it. I don't like his approach in fa, but I think the team is starting to take shape. He had some very good moments, but I thought he was very inconsistent.
