***Official Joe Biden Campaign Thread (6 Viewers)

You are simply the problem here.  You pretend to be a "conservative" but all you do is troll conservative posters.  You are trying too hard to fit in and be liked.  😉

I don’t believe the Commish has ever pretended to be conservative.  I assumed at some point in the past he was and now he’s not.  That’s not uncommon.  People switch political ideology.

It’s not the only strategy at all.

Long term the economy is not doing well. Right now things look good because Trump has chosen to spend the nation’s credit card for short term prosperity, but that’s not sustainable and even he knows it. He’s done nothing to address any of our biggest problems: healthcare, infrastructure, new energy sources. These are the issues the Democrats can and will win on.
We simply don't know how the economy will do long term.  If the economy keeps this up even Biden will have a hard time beating Trump.

Healthcare is the biggest issue that could swing the election.  If Republicans can find a way to maintain private health care but improve our current system it will be a slam dunk.  Medicare for All is not the answer and will never pass.

Let's let him answer this.  Maybe it was just schtick.

Biden is a likable kind of guy, mellow down to earth. HRC is/ was not very personable and had considerably more baggage than Biden does.   A clear cut significant difference.
Other posters have expressed similar thoughts so I'm not taking credit for this. But I think people like the idea of Joe Biden. The more they see of the real Biden, the less likeable he will be.

Trump, like Obama, is a divisive President I will give you that.
Obviously we disagree here - but what do you think Obama did to be divisive?

I recognize that many people hated Obama - but I am less clear about what he did to deserve that hate - and how he actively tried to divide people.

He failed to end racism. And as a black person, it was his responsibility to do so.

He has struggled in the past because he’s a gaffe machine and can be inappropriate at times.  I think he would beat Trump, but he has to get past the new far-left in the primaries.

He’s the only candidate that I think can bend left for the primaries and then move back to center for the general though.  The others are likely going to get stuck left and leave Trump open to win again.

Conservative radio this morning without a hint of irony is saying Biden’s creepy touching is a total disqualifier for POTUS.

Desegregation, Anita Hill, Iraq. He will not succeed running to the left.

I'm a big fan of the whole "I don't know how to search or use Google or create a link" shtick when someone asks for evidence to back up one ridiculous claim or another.......

.......but ask for an example of how Obama was bad and they'll have that link ready to go in 5 minutes! :lmao:

:goodposting:   Spot on

Trump, like Obama, is a divisive President I will give you that.  He would be better to lay off the twitter.  However, that is just his personality and he will not sit there when he is constantly getting attacked by the media.

I obviously disagree on the regulations and lowering tax rates has helped the majority of Americans.  Time will tell if it works out in the long run but basic economics are on his side.

How can you say not facing immigration with a straight face?  Dems have stonewalled him there and that is squarely on them.  I don't believe climate change is a big issue.
No basic economics say we passed the point where tax cuts can be effective now they are just a give away hurting the country. Those regulations that are being cut? Clean air and clean water. Will literally lead to illness and deaths. And to the electorate,  especially young people, climate change is a big deal.

I know we aren’t a board generally known for it’s fairness or accuracy, but i’m 100% sure that the previous link posting difficulties were specific to using his mobile phone.

Color me not impressed with Biden's announcement video.

If your goal is to project a theme of unity, then you probably shouldn't pick a topic that is near-and-dear to 1/3rd of the country.

I have never once said I don't know how to search or use google.  I still do not know how to copy and paste a link with my mobile phone.  For the link I just pasted I had to literally write down every character and symbol of the long IP address and then transcribe it FBG.  It is tedious and time consuming.

I think Klobuchar could as well but bending left might be the hardest part for her. I actually think she would be a better more youthful candidate. But Biden works for me as a 2nd choice.

It's a long read but an excellent look at Biden.

If you've got 10 minutes, I'd be interested in your take.

I know people his age from his part of the country that grew up that way. And I love them. I feel like I "get them". Interestingly, one of those people is one of the biggest Trump supporters I know. But they have the same people first, relational, want to talk about the place they grew up type vibe.

He's a super interesting guy that's seen a lot.

So here are the 3 main “issues” that Biden can appeal to Democrats on:

Pennsylvania

Michigan

Wisconsin

In other words, screw the issues, Biden wins the 3 key states and none of the others can be depended upon to do so. Pennsylvania being the most important of all: whoever wins Pennsylvania wins the presidency.

This is a very compelling argument. I’m not 100% sold on Biden but he begins his candidacy with a very strong message and this is it: he can beat Trump.

Are you on iphone? I'm guessing other systems it's the same.

Go to the URL, just click on it, it should highlight, hold the cursor/bar, wait for 'copy', click that, then go back to where you want to type, hit 'paste'. Boom, done.

Glad to help.

Android.  Thanks.  It worked once as you described but I can't seem to get it to work again.

Bernie is winning those states versus Trump in polling. By double digits on average.  What else you got?

IMHO, Biden is doing Trump huge favor here...by bringing this up again when heads are cooler, more and more people will see the full context where Trump “condemned totally” neo Nazis and white supremacists...

Look there’s a part of me that says you’re right, that the growth of popularity of Bernie’s ideas has been rapid and amazing, that we live in a completely different world even from 2016 and that the old rules don’t apply. And of course you’re right that Bernie does lead in the polling; to your credit, your arguments are always fact based.

But there’s this other part of me that says that this Bernie thing is fantasy; that in the end the young people that he needs for his coalition won’t show up to vote (they never have) that blue collar white moderates in the midwest are never going to vote for a guy who calls himself a Democratic Socialist, and that if it’s Bernie, Trump will sweep those states again and be re-elected.

So I just don’t know.

Among Black voters, Biden begins with 37% support, twice as much as Bernie and 25 points higher than Kamala. None of the others are even in the discussion at this point.

Simply put, for Biden to lose the nomination this number has to come down.

With regard to the numbers I just mentioned, it’s also very telling that, while Buttigieg’s appeal has risen in every other group, at least so far black voters seem unaffected. That may suggest that the old meme about blacks being socially conservative is still a real thing, or it may just be early times yet.

Joe Bryant said:
Although on a serious note, I'm becoming more and more convinced this is really just about business and marketing.

And marketing is about clarity. People rarely move toward confusion. They almost always move toward clarity.

I was listening to a podcast recently and the guy talked about speaking to crowds of people.

He noted Jeb Bush was extremely qualified to be president. Knowledgeable on policy, Governor, family experience etc.

He said he'd asked this question repeatedly: What was Jeb Bush's vision for America? Crickets. Nobody knew.

He asked "What was Hillary Clinton's vision for America?" A few people said, "I'm with her"

He asked "What was Donald Trump's vision for America?" Of course everyone knows "Make America Great Again".

Clarity is big.
Trump's expertise is branding and marketing. No doubt.

So that’s a no? If nobody’s accused him of sexual misconduct, I would suggest not saying that people have accused him of sexual misconduct. Conversations tend to be more productive when people are careful about accuracy.
I admire you and Joe for what you guys do around here, I know it can’t be easy and jerks like me don’t help.

With that out the way, the only reply I can think of to your comment to SC is :lmao:  - dude may be the single most inaccurate poster in the history of the boreds.

It’s interesting as they are already talking about the crime bill and “predators on out streets”.

I think you make a very interesting point about African Americans and whether they would vote for Mayor Pete.  I do think as a group they are more socially conservative and I could see some deciding not to vote for him because he’s a homosexual and go with Joe - which seems odd given how much damage that crime bill did to their community.

MSNBC talking about all the politicians already coming out for Joe.  I didn’t really care for the announcement video but it’s obvious that Joe will have a good part of the DNC machine behind him.  That alone is going to make him one of the favorites.

The crime bill is obviously a negative but there are two factors that overcome it IMO, at least for now. The first is that, as you noted, black voters are conservative- not just socially conservative, but conservative in that they generally prefer the established candidate, the frontrunner- this is their consistent pattern in every election cycle except for 2008.

The second reason is Biden’s ties to Obama.

They asked Biden about not getting an endorsement from Obama and he said he told him not to, that whoever wins, it should be on their own merits.  I guess you could say that’s “honorable” but if that’s really how it went down it seems stupid on Biden’s part.  Why wouldn’t he do everything he can to get Obama to endorse him?

Because Obama won’t endorse anyone beforehand, so Biden is saying this in order so that nobody thinks Obama doesn’t prefer him. That’s my read anyhow. He’s just trying to get out in front of it, seems pretty smart to me.

Dumb question - How common is it for former Presidents to endorse their VP for President?

The Census found that 36 percent of citizens ages 18-29 reported voting in last year’s midterm elections, jumping 16 percentage points since 2014 (when turnout was 20 percent) and easily surpassing any midterm election since the 1980s.

This generation has watched their elected officials ignore the fact that their friends are getting gunned down, ignore climate change, ignore the high cost of education, ignore the growing wealth gap, take away their health care, and demonize their diversity. Maybe there's too much for them to ignore.

Or Biden has to get out in public and start campaigning so that we all remember his negatives.  He is where he is, early, on name recognition.  This happens every campaign.  A guy with name recognition and access to his or her party's apparatus is situated as the presumptive leader, then we remember things like plagiarism, Anita Hill, and creepy kissing and we move on to other candidates.  Me, I believe America is read to pass the torch from Baby Boomers, anxious even.

Not sure where you got your numbers. Morning consult looked at polling and gives Biden 32 to Bernie's 28. Just outside the margin of error. Further Bernie wins the young black vote.

No clue but i wouldn’t expect Obama to endorse anyone specifically.  This is somewhat unusual in that it’s 4 years after Obama was President - I’m assuming most times the VP is running immediately after the President is out of office

I can see that. It does make sense I guess not to endorse. Although as I've said, if I were Biden, my focus would be on the connection to Obama. Especially as they seemed to have such a friendly and close relationship.
