Nice. If that's what the institutions teach now for rawk and roll, then the good guys won (partially). No shtick, these kids doing Waiting Room.
jvd! Good to see you check in late night on the West Coast. Seems like it's been a while. Always respect the handle. Tool and Depeche Mode are certainly different animals, other than dressing in black. Are we talking songs that are generally awesome when performed live or are you asking for best individual live performances of songs? For example- I’ve seen Tool several times in concert and I get goosebumps anytime I see/hear Lateralus live in person. I’ve also seen Depeche Mode in concert a few times and “Never let me down” live always sends chills up my spine.
On a related note, there is the memorable SNL performance with Joe along with John Belushi.been waiting more'n 50 yrs for anyone to improve on this.
Gilmour’s live version of “Echoes” at Gdańsk immediately came to mind when I saw this thread. Among the entire Floyd/Gilmour/Waters arsenal, hard to top this one IMO.First song I thought of was Comfortably Numb, whether performed by Pink Floyd or David Gilmour on one of his solo tours (it's not the same when Roger Waters plays it without Gilmour being there to do the solos).
Both. I am talking songs from their concert tour days. Like Nirvana live at Reading or Pink Floyd Pulse tour. Are we talking songs that are generally awesome when performed live or are you asking for best individual live performances of songs? This song gets me too. But I need the church bell intro to really get the vibe.
I choose Tweezer Reprise. Especially when it closes a show. Tweezer RepriseGets me every time. When Jon starts the drums, I feel soooooo good.
Was going to say pretty much anything by Led Zep at their peak.
Yep. For me, the Pulse version is perfection.First song I thought of was Comfortably Numb, whether performed by Pink Floyd or David Gilmour on one of his solo tours (it's not the same when Roger Waters plays it without Gilmour being there to do the solos).
I have that live DVD, and Echoes alone makes it worth having. Incredible performance for sure. Getting everything else feels like a bonus! Indeed - Gilmour’s soloing on On an Island there is insane even by his standards. Fat Old Sun is another standout.I have that live DVD, and Echoes alone makes it worth having. Incredible performance for sure. Getting everything else feels like a bonus! (and I am a big fan of On an Island)
For sure. His solo in The Blue is just heavenly, whether live or on the record.Indeed - Gilmour’s soloing on On an Island there is insane even by his standards. Fat Old Sun is another standout.
Best part of that performance is Tony Franklin’s hall of fame mullet. And speaking of David Gilmour guest shots, here’s a clip of him crushing “Running Up That Hill” with Kate Bush at the 1986 Secret Policeman’s Ball.
