MEKHI SARGENT EXPECTED TO BE THE TITANS RB2

by Brad Camara

Tennessee Titans running back Mekhi Sargent is expected to be the backup behind undisputed starter Derrick Henry. "He was a decisive runner, he hit the hole, he tried to run through contact when somebody tried to tackle him," said general manager Jon Robinson. The Titans placed RB Darrynton Evans (knee) on the injured reserve earlier in the week, and he won't be eligible to return until Week 4. Sargent, who had an impressive preseason, will be the backup running back to star Derrick Henry. He led the Titans in rushing in the preseason and earned his spot on the 53-man roster; logging 49 carries for 187 yards and a touchdown over three games. Henry, Sargent, and Jeremy McNichols are currently the Titans' top running backs on the depth chart. The undrafted free agent is Henry's backup running back fantasy managers should target in upcoming fantasy drafts in the short term until Evans is activated from the injured reserve.

This week's info.

Added to Titans' practice squad

October 26, 2021

Sargent was added to the Tennessee practice squad Tuesday.

ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was waived from the team's active roster Saturday after being a healthy scratch the three weeks prior. Fellow running back Darrynton Evans returned to the active roster this past weekend, knocking Sargent down a peg to the practice squad.

Well that was over quick

Released from practice squad

November 2, 2021

Sargent was released from the Titans' practice squad Tuesday.

ANALYSIS

Sargent appeared in the Titans' first three games of the season, but he was a non-factor and was a healthy scratch the following three weeks. In a corresponding move, the Titans signed D'Onta Foreman to their practice squad.

Foreman is a blast from the past. I know he is often mentioned as an example of a guy who’s career was ruined by injury, are the Titans really just rolling with AP and McNichols?
