Whatever happens, you'd have to think they'll add Leake to the 25 man for the NLCS as insurance so they'll have to dump someone, right?Gotta hope Cueto's back comes around, and they can end this in 3 or 4 to set him up for the NLCS. Latos could come back to start a game 5 if needed?
I'm hoping Stubbs is gone and Heisey keeps CF warm for +/- 1 year until Hamilton is called up.Why?Because #### Drew Stubbs, that's why.In other Reds news, I saw where Billy Hamilton is being converted to CF, since the 2B/SS pipeline is full ahead of him with BP, Cozart, and Gregorius. Could we be nearing the end of the cool breeze we all get from Drew Stubbs flailing his bat around?
I would think so. And, I like Leake as a guy in emergency situations. Say what you want about Leake, but he certainly doesn't lack confidence. And I questioned it. No more. Passed ball earlier in the inning really cost them. Both runs given away cheap tonight. So who's on the bump tomorrow?Man, rough hop on Rolen there... no way else to play that ball.
Also, I like moving Hamilton to CF. Stubbs is simply horrible at the plate.
That's the rub right now. If they bring in Leake, then someone has to leave the playoff roster. This is not only for the remainder of this series but also the NLCS should the Reds advance. If Cueto can't go then better swap him for Leake now. It would be great if Latos could go and defer that decision. Come on Latos, save us from losing Cueto before we know if he can pitch in a few more days. If Cueto stays then we're looking at (P) Simon or IF/OF Valdez as the swap player for Leake, IMO.Passed ball earlier in the inning really cost them. Just not that excited about not having Cueto for NLCS. I'm still confident we'll beat the Giants. Why are you guys that concerned? They only need to win one out of the three games they had at home. They weren't swept at home, at all, this entire season. Leake pitched really well against them in SF. I'm very confident they win one of the next two. Only reason I dont want them to go to game 5 is so we have a fresh Latos ready in game one.
While he doesn't lack confidence, I'd argue he does lack MLB level talent.'GreatLakesMike said:I would think so. And, I like Leake as a guy in emergency situations. He'll be bad on defense. I think I'd rather stick with Stubbs. Not bad, but I think I stay Arroyo, Homer, Latos, Leake. I have never really cared about the "split the power/soft arms up" strategy. Even if I did, the Homer/Latos starts would have a travel day in between. Typing this depresses me though, as you won't mistake any of those guys for Cueto.I'm not as confident as you, but I think we have a decent chance today. Headed that way in 10 minutes. Anyone else going?'r0llin_game said:Billy lead the California league in obp and average I believe. I'm sure he'll be a lot better in center than what some people think. Fwiw, Cingrani could be brought up and put on the NLCS roster and wouldn't be shocked if that happened at this point. Arredondo had a rough go in the two games he pitched, wonder if they replace him with Big O. Yes, I fully expect the Reds to win today. Am I a little nervous, yea, but it's more of an anxious feeling than nervous. Assuming they win, like I am already, rotation will be Homer, Arroyo, Latos, Cingrani/Leake I believe. Definitely think that's what it should be too so they split up Homer/Latos, and Homer would be on regular rest too.
Hamilton was 16th in AVG and 6th in OBP in the Cal League. He dropped off a bit when he was promoted to AA but I think he'll adjust. He just turned 22 and isn't a finished product yet but I think it's safe to say he won't hit for power. His walks were up and his strikeouts were down a bit this year but I think his whiff rate is probably enough to keep him from challenging for batting titles in the Majors.Barring some kind of Lonnie Smith deja vu in the OF, I think he'll be fine in Center. His speed should compensate for bad reads and he supposedly had enough arm to play SS.But that's all in the future. Good luck today but not too good'r0llin_game said:Billy lead the California league in obp and average I believe. I'm sure he'll be a lot better in center than what some people think. As for the Reds, while this has been a helluva season, I must remind them all, while it is great to enjoy it while it happens, don't get overconfident about the playoffs. I don't care how great you look in the regular season, it can all change as soon as it turns to October. As a Cardinals fan who saw the incredible '04 and '05 teams lose to (supposedly) inferior teams in the postseason, and then saw the '06 and '11 teams win it all by beating teams that were (supposedly) better than them, greatness in the summer never guarantees greatness in the fall. Just a word of warning.![]()

Still a great season. Not going to call it a failure.Pumped for next year.
If that's how you took it, well, that's unfortunate, but not my problem. Good luck next year.I was laughing at you talking to us like we're three. Disappointing, but this team has a nice core and will be back.Stay classy.
x2 Why do you pitch to Arias with a base open, Romo on deck, and only one guy left on the bench.Hope Dusty's not back.

The big assumption here is that Chapman will be an effective SP. He obviously has the stuff but he'll have to dial back his velocity to increase his pitch count. If Broxton's contract is in the ballpark of League (3/$22.5M) and Affeldt (3/$18M), it's probably OK, especially since the Reds have other closing options if Broxton gets hurt or shelled. Broxton's strikeout rate these days is pretty non-elite and he's hit at an age where most pitchers lose something off his fastball.Reds are close to signing Broxton for 3 years. This all but assures that Chapman is a starter now.![]()
That gives the Reds a BP of:BroxtonMarshallHooverLecureI'll go to war with that backend and a Rotation of:CuetoLatosBaileyArroyoChapmanwith Leake, Corcino, and Cingrani waiting in the wings or trade bait to fill LF & CF.

The deal is for three years and $21 million and carries a club option for 2016. The annual salaries would grow from $4 million in the first year, to $7 million and $9 million in the following seasons, with a $1 million buyout on the $9 million option in 2016.
The third year is guaranteed, the fourth year is the optionAlmost a lock Broxton turns into 2/12 with that buyout, but I don't mind it if Chapman is ready to start. That rotation is going to be ridiculous.
Thanks. Seems like a ton for a mediocre reliever, but it's not my money and the Reds seem to be spending like crazy... so whatever. The third year is guaranteed, the fourth year is the optionAlmost a lock Broxton turns into 2/12 with that buyout, but I don't mind it if Chapman is ready to start.
