Biggest concern is Week 11 Bye (Stafford, Sony, Woods [yeah 3 LAR players], Sutton & Denver Def)

$59 Investment on Week 11 Bye (23.6%)
Personally, if I am caring 3 QB I want them to have different bye weeks.

On the WR sharing a bye in week 11, if you believe that strongly in both it may be worth the risk.  If not, I would move one.

Good Luck

Yeah, Sorry this slipped by me this year. Not any value now as it closes tomorrow and the whole point was to get people to share lineups and discuss. Just one more thing I screwed up this year. Sigh. Sorry Folks.

If someone that's commented in this thread places in top 5, we'll give them a special designation in their profile and call out in the email update or something.

Overall fine lineup.  My main thought for improvement is regarding the SF RBs.  For me, I would rather pick a side between Sermon and Mostert, or more likely take the $29 and get an elite RB instead.

Good Luck
Definitely understood.
I’m thinking either one is elite in any given week but I’m not sure which as they’ll rotate and play the hot hand. Or just split and neither does great. We’ll see.

@fightingillini made the point I kept telling myself too on an expensive QB - not worth Stafford backing him up. I agree, but I also LOVE Stafford this year. So in changing my QB obviously I had to swap around all the other positions.

I ended up with the same RB/WR room still. Have seen some comments on SF RBs - I think there will be multiple weeks where both post great weeks, especially down the stretch if I get that far. So I'm loving it.

I KNOW I have too much tied up into week 9 but I tried every which away to walk away from Brady and just could not find a suitable replacement without going week 10 ( which would have completely blew up my roster.  I wasnt willing to walk away from Gibson nor Brown either because I think they both have huge value.  SOOOOO  Im hoping for A to Brady have a huge year and stay heathy and B Pitts to be the phenom everybody says he is  (yeah I know about year 1 Tes)  and C make it to week 9 so my huge gamble even has a chance to  matter.

I went with 20 roster spots after rolling with 18 the last couple of years.  I decided that smaller rosters were better after several years of not getting far with larger rosters.  When I have used smaller rosters, I got eliminated due to a lack of fire power as a bunch of 10 point scores added up to elimination. As with any smaller rosters, I need to avoid injuries which is the real secret to this contest - teams with few injuries go far.

All my RBs have different byes and no more than 2 RB/WR/TE share a bye and in all cases the 2nd player is a cheapie.

The QB and TE combinations stayed the same from the first iteration as I didn't want to spend the extra $$.

The injuries to the Jax and Balt RBs allowed me to upgrade to McCaffrey from Harris or Zeke. McCaffrey also fit my byes a lot better than other options.

This year I see a lack of value in the $10-$20 WRs.  Normally, I would go with 4-5 WRs in the $13-$20 range but I saw some value in the cheaper options this year leading to the bigger roster. Jakobi was in many lineups but was replaced by Edwards and MVS and a kicker downgrade. First year in several without Lockett.

I find spending much money beyond the minimum on K and D to be a waste.

McCaffrey, Kelce, and Ridley are types than can carry you through a week single handed.

QB - Tom Brady - TB/9 - $17
QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/7 - $9

RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/13 - $39

Taking a couple risks this year, very heavy on Seahawks, and a little bit stars and scrubs given some of the values I was seeing at the lower price points.   See how it goes!

I kind of lucked out.  I did not focus too much on bye distribution until the end, and as it turns out the roster I gravitated towards below presented no real pain points.

Like @boilerdave, I too went with Rogers and Roethlisberger.  Sure a third QB would be nice, but I'm not willing to pay. A lot of boom for just $26. Don't blame anyone if they went Brady or Wilson instead of Rogers, but Ben at $9 is crazy.

QB - Aaron Rodgers - GB/13 - $17
QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/7 - $9

Was never satisfied with efforts to build an RB stable of mid-tiered players like my WRs below.

I expect EE to bounce back this year; I'm banking on Gibson finishing top 5-10. Michel and Stevenson represent tremendous value and I suspect they will be two of the most rostered players.  Could not pick the obvious, Gus Edwards, because I'd rather take my chances on Mostert's high ceiling, but my contrarian approach aside, he should THE most rostered player in the league.

RB - Ezekiel Elliott - DAL/7 - $27  ...FEED ME!
RB - Antonio Gibson - WAS/9 - $26
RB - Raheem Mostert - SF/6 - $14
RB - Sony Michel - LAR/11 - $5
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/14 - $3

I could never convince myself to reach for the super-elite tier WRs.  They wrecked the budget every single time.  I went with low-to-mid tier WRs who I believe will emerge as WR1s on their respective teams. Replacing Jakobi Meyers with Agholor was the last roster change I made.  I've gone back and forth between Pittman and Sterling Shepard... Still might make that change.

WR - Brandon Aiyuk - SF/6 - $17
WR - Jerry Jeudy - DEN/11 - $16
WR - Marvin Jones - JAX/7 - $11
WR - Corey Davis - NYJ/6 - $10
WR - Antonio Brown - TB/9 - $10
WR - Michael Pittman - IND/14 - $9
WR - Nelson Agholor - NE/14 - $6
WR - Marquez Callaway - NO/6 - $5

I could never build a satisfying roster without one of the big three.  Settled on Waller as I expect the #1 TE torch to pass from Kelce this season.  Very pleased to have Henry and Everett on the roster.

TE - Darren Waller - LV/8 - $27
TE - Hunter Henry - NE/14 - $9
TE - Gerald Everett - SEA/9 - $7

It's just too easy to pull zeros (or zeroes, yes I googled that) on any given week with two kickers and/or two defenses.  There will much lamenting from those who chose only two this year, count on it. I may count myself among those even with three each.

PK - Rodrigo Blankenship - IND/14 - $4  ...Yeah Baby!
PK - Daniel Carlson - LV/8 - $3
PK - Brandon McManus - DEN/11 - $3

TD - Washington Football Team - WAS/9 - $5
TD - Indianapolis Colts - IND/14 - $4
TD - Cleveland Browns - CLE/13 - $3

QB - Russell Wilson - SEA/9 - $17
QB - Justin Fields - CHI/10 - $7

Oh no!!  I was in edit mode and submitted my team just make sure I did not inadvertently make a change.

I've gone back and forth between Pittman and Sterling Shepard... Still might make that change.
Final answer.  It even smoothed out my bye distribution.  Serendipity.

QB - Aaron Rodgers - GB/13 - $17

I'm hearing whispers from people comparing Kadarius Toney's rookie season to Odell Beckham's.  Don't be caught snoozin, y'all.

Obligatory Self-Aggrandizing Roster Narrative.

"And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.'

And the Lord did grin.

And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chulapas.

And the Lord spake, saying,

'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to [twenty]three, no more, no less. [Twenty]three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be [twenty]three. [Twenty]four shalt thou not count, neither count thou [twenty]two, excepting that thou then proceed to [twenty]three. [Twenty]five is right out.

Once the number [twenty]three, being the [twenty]third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

I'll try not to mention value or ceiling in my roster narrative, because I'd have to say the same thing about 20 times.  It's implied.

Skill Position Starters From Various Teams

RB1 - Joe Mixon - CIN/10 - $27
RB2 - Nick Chubb - CLE/13 - $26
WR1 - Cooper Kupp - LAR/11 - $20
WR2 - Adam Thielen - MIN/7 - $18
TE1 - Travis Kelce - KC/12 - $30

Not much to say here.  The ceiling  (oops! sorry!) of Kupp and Thielen is Top 10 imo.  Woods and Jefferson do not turn these two into chicken liver.

By design, I spent heavy on RB, QB and TE and sought value with WR.  No idea if it pays off, but I stayed true to the process.

Concentration: Buccaneers (Pass Heavy / Play Action Orientation)

QB1 - Tom Brady - TB/9 - $17
WR3 - Antonio Brown - TB/9 - $10 (FLEX5)
TE3 - Rob Gronkowski - TB/9 - $9 (FLEX6)

At their prices, I don't think Evans and Godwin are on sale.  I'm confident these guys are.  Think Tommy wants to get to 55 TDs?  What would happen if you put Tom Brady and Michael Jordan on an island with both their moms and told them there's only enough food for 2 people?

Concentration: Patriots (Run Heavy / Play Action Orientation)

RB3 - Damien Harris - NE/14 - $16 (FLEX1)
RB6 - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/14 - $3 (FLEX9)
TE2 - Jonnu Smith - NE/14 - $9 (FLEX4)

This is where projections say I should have taken James Robinson and some TE schmo in the high teens of auction cost.  Yeah, um, no.  I'll take 67% of NE's run game over 70% of JAX's run game 8 days a week...even if Harris and RS split the rewards (its best ball and history says a different back gets the bulk of carries in a given week).  TDs from this trio could approach 25, if not 30.

Concentration: Saints (Shotgun / Pistol Orientation centered around Kamara)

QB2 - Jameis Winston - NO/6 - $10
WR5 - Marquez Callaway - NO/6 - $5 (FLEX8)

Payton does not follow the no risk no biscuit philosophy that led to Jameis throwing 30 picks.  But he has been waiting for an arm to take shots that the HOF former QB just couldn't throw anymore.  I like Jameis for >30 TDs, <15 picks, and comeback player of the year.

Will Thomas be a team player when he comes back?  Can "three quans" actually demonstrate receiving skill above replacement value?  Who benefits if the answer to either or both questions is no?

The Rest....

QB3 - Justin Fields - CHI/10 - $7

I read somewhere there is a 75% chance Fields starts by Week 7.  I think its a lot higher.  Andy Dalton, say Hi to Aaron Donald in Week 1.  I'd rather crash and burn then take a "scintilating" option like Teddy Bridgewater as QB3 and lapse into a coma from boredom.  Run, Forrest, run.

RB4 - Gus Edwards - BAL/8 - $11 (FLEX2)
RB5 - Sony Michel - LAR/11 - $5 (FLEX7)
WR4 - Michael Pittman - IND/14 - $9 (FLEX4)
WR6 - Bryan Edwards - LV/8 - $4 (FLEX10)

edwards' load faces "risk" from the bench?  and  Bell?  and Murray?  ooh, scary!  highest owned player?  let's move on...

Michel is a first and second down back with upside to 3 down back. Henderson is a 3rd down back.  McVay is a smart fella; he'll figure it out (or already has).

I was pleased to see limited chatter re: Pittman.  [edit: latest rosters indicate not so much of a secret, but the v word still applies]

Edwards is apparently the second coming of the messiah.  He may need to be to save the QB and GM's jobs (Gruden's safe; he laughs at junior's jokes).

PK1 - Younghoe Koo - ATL/6 - $4
PK2 - Brandon McManus - DEN/11 - $3
PK3 - Evan McPherson - CIN/10 - $2

TD1 - Denver Broncos - DEN/11 - $3
TD2 - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/7 - $2

Usually nothing to say re: kickers and defenses, but I really like Denver as a dark horse to play small ball, have a stifling defense with Von back and kick a bunch of field goals at mile high to win games.

I like the Cowgirls the best of the Kmart defenses as opportunistic when Dak puts up big points.

In lieu of the traditional spartan "cost by position summary" I attach "paralysis of analysis" that provides insight into the tortured brain of an engineer with a lack of priorities in life.

Paralysis of Analysis

Guys who spent the most time on my roster only to not make the final cut (sorry fellas; coach wants to see you...bring your playbook).

Russell Wilson, Stafford, Mac Jones
Zeke, Mostert, Robinson
Ridley, Keenan Allen, Michael Thomas, Jakobi Meyers
A Firsker, D Arnold

Best of luck, y'all!  (drops mike)

I think this is yours.

Entered, and feeling pretty good about my team.

Used a different strategy this year, which I shan’t divulge until it’s proven by success.  Last year the “Prioritize Players with Initials” strategy, which lead to a team featuring DK, DJ, TJ, JK, KJ, and AJ was wildly successful, even though OJ and TY were underwhelming.   The critics, however, were less than enthusiastic, and dismissed it as “a cheap gimmick”, and “quite frankly, stupid.”

I think this year is primed for big rosters:

QB - Jameis Winston - NO/6 - $10
QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/7 - $9
QB - Sam Darnold - CAR/13 - $8
RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/10 - $28
RB - Miles Sanders - PHI/14 - $21
RB - James Robinson - JAX/7 - $16
RB - Gus Edwards - BAL/8 - $11

RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/14 - $3
WR - Diontae Johnson - PIT/7 - $18
WR - Michael Thomas - NO/6 - $13
WR - Corey Davis - NYJ/6 - $10
WR - Antonio Brown - TB/9 - $10

Strategy this year was started with guys I liked that was low cost.  Ended up with a bigger rooster than anticipated. High hopes if I can get past Week 7.  Lots of dead rooster money that week.

I rushed to throw my contest entry together this morning, thinking the deadline was 11:59am for some reason.  :excited:

Here is my fourth and final iteration:

QB - Tom Brady - TB/9 - $17

RB - Giovani Bernard - TB/9 - $8
RB - Sony Michel - LAR/11 - $5

TD - Denver Broncos - DEN/11 - $3
TD - Green Bay Packers - GB/13 - $2

After years of my large roster entries getting cut in weeks 9-11, I decided to take a different approach with more stars and less scrubs.  I normally love to roster those $4 and $3 fliers, but it's so rare that they actually contribute usable points.

Even at this late hour, I'm tempted to dump Jimmy G, and pick up Bryan Edwards, but nah.

Good luck, everyone.

I went TE heavy this year. My projections have them counting points most weeks. I did like Najee Harris and his upside but didn't want conflicting byes. Even with Chubb costing more than Harris, his projection was more than enough to make up the difference. I went back in forth with Jefferson or Thielen but wasn't going to have both. Thielen's projected point to value ratio was higher than Jefferson's but I could not get a team to produce as many points with him in it. Thielen and Higgins were basically interchangeable for me. I tried to get one more player on the roster with either Stevenson or Jakobi Meyers but some player combinations just didn't work out.

I decided that having a few stars on the team over hoping for five or six average players performing was well worth it. Yes there is risk of injuries, but I have plenty of competition for  starts between quality players. Not swinging for a single here.

For QBs had to go with Wilson over Rodgers and Brady. I don't want a top scoring player on a late season bye week.  Hopefully he duplicates the free for all from the 1st half of last year. Fields will probably be getting playing time after week three at the latest.

QB - Russell Wilson - SEA/9 - $17
QB - Justin Herbert - LAC/7 - $16
QB - Justin Fields - CHI/10 - $7

Between Chubb and Harris, Harris more upside to explode. Chubb will get his and no bye conflicts with other RBs with a very high point projection vs. cost. Basically change player names into projection numbers and values and you have my thoughts.
RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/13 - $26
RB - David Montgomery - CHI/10 - $22
RB - James Robinson - JAX/7 - $16
RB - Gus Edwards - BAL/8 - $11

Would've liked to have three receivers with 200+ point projections but had to let the three of mine fight for a start each week. Pittman and Callaway for upside.
WR - Justin Jefferson - MIN/7 - $25
WR - Tee Higgins - CIN/10 - $18
WR - Michael Pittman - IND/14 - $9
WR - Marquez Callaway - NO/6 - $5
WR - M Valdes-Scantling - GB/13 - $3

1 1/2 PPR. OK.
TE - Darren Waller - LV/8 - $27
TE - T.J. Hockenson - DET/9 - $19
TE - Kyle Pitts - ATL/6 - $17

Three kickers in case one gets the boot.
PK - Jake Elliott - PHI/14 - $3
PK - Greg Joseph - MIN/7 - $3
PK - Evan McPherson - CIN/10 - $2

Only two here but teams don't get cut like kickers do. ;)

Hopefully no covid cancellations.
TD - Green Bay Packers - GB/13 - $2
TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/7 - $2

Took me about a half dozen iterations to arrive at this final entry (submitted one minute before the deadline). Week 9 a bit dicey but I really love this entry:

QB - Tom Brady - 17
QB - Zach Wilson - 8
QB - Teddy Bridgewater - 5
RB - Mike Davis - 19
RB - Javonte Williams - 18
RB - Trey Sermon - 15
RB - Raheem Mostert - 14
RB - Gus Edwards - 11
RB - Giovani Bernard - 8
RB - Sony Michel - 5
WR - Tyler Lockett - 21
WR - Jerry Jeudy - 16
WR - Corey Davis - 10
WR - Antonio Brown - 10
WR - Elijah Moore - 9
WR - Sammy Watkins - 5
WR - Bryan Edwards - 4
TE - T.J. Hockenson - 19
TE - Gerald Everett - 7
TE - O.J. Howard - 6
PK - Rodrigo Blankenship - 4
PK - Brandon McManus - 3
PK - Cairo Santos - 3
TD - Baltimore Ravens - 5
TD - Washington Football Team - 5
TD - Denver Broncos - 3

QB - Tom Brady - TB/9 - $17
QB - Justin Fields - CHI/10 - $7

I kept trying to find a way to add $4 Tyrod Taylor into the mix.  He can put up points with his legs, Brandin Cooks doesn't suck, he's a good cheap way to help ensure against variance early in the season if Brady has an off game or they just run it in a lot... esp. since we don't know how soon Fields will get the nod (but when he does, his upside is massive and could be one of those guys who everyone who has him drastically increases their chances of surviving to the end).  Overall, Brady seems likely to put up comparable numbers to guys who cost $5-10 more, very comfortable with him as my QB1.  Oh, and I like Trey Lance a lot (Lancelot?) but concerned he's going to be in a season-long QBBC.

RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/13 - $26
RB - James Robinson - JAX/7 - $16
RB - Damien Harris - NE/14 - $16
RB - Gus Edwards - BAL/8 - $11
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/14 - $3

There were guys I liked such as Dillon and Penny with byes that don't conflict, who could be contest-winners if injury strikes, but I don't want to be rooting for an injury to occur.  Michel along same lines.  They might have some value in RB2 roles, but their real value is if they get thrust into RB1. Anyway, Chubb is my differentiator here from most rosters.  Considered swapping Damien Harris for Penny+Michel at RB, which would also have allowed me to afford adding Taylor as QB3 and a 3rd team D.

WR - Allen Robinson - CHI/10 - $23
WR - Jerry Jeudy - DEN/11 - $16
WR - Laviska Shenault - JAX/7 - $13
WR - Michael Pittman - IND/14 - $9
WR - Marquez Callaway - NO/6 - $5
WR - Bryan Edwards - LV/8 - $4
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/13 - $3

I feel good about the mid-range and value plays at WR this year, but I think Allen Robinson will have a huge year... even Dalton is an upgrade, and Fields moreso.  Mooney is intriguing but didn't want bye-week conflicts at that price level, also tried to find ways to get some more $$$ for Mike Williams and a NE receiver... AJ Green and Nico Collins on my radar as well.

TE - Travis Kelce - KC/12 - $30
TE - George Kittle - SF/6 - $22
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $16

So obviously this is where I went big... hoping the 1.5 PPR pays big dividends with these elite volume TEs. The year I came in 2nd I had Kelce/Kittle, so figured let's take it a step even further and roll the dice with 3, since I felt like there were enough value options available at RB/WR lineups.  I'm not sold enough on Everett as a value play, though I do think OJ Howard has major upside if he can get back to pre-injury form (though tempered by Gronk's presence).  Overall I just didn't like the value plays enough at TE compared to the alternatives.

PK - Daniel Carlson - LV/8 - $3
PK - Brandon McManus - DEN/11 - $3
PK - Dustin Hopkins - WAS/9 - $3
TD - Green Bay Packers - GB/13 - $2
TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/7 - $2

I usually like to have 3 team Ds, but that was one of the sacrifices I made this year.

And I am now finally done. I mean really, no more tweaks. I do not have time today or tomorrow so this is the final and I mean final roster set.

  • QB - 3 at $33 - made a change to get one dude that is priced at top ten
  • RB - 7 at $71 - made some edits to add depth and I have it with seven guys, even though a couple may or may not be third stringers
  • WR - 8 at $91 - depth is such a necessity with WRs who have such variance week to week
  • TE - 4 at $38 - feel ok about this
  • K - 3 at $9 - three kickers, please do not get cut
  • D - 3 at $8
bye weeks

  • week 6 = 3 at $16
  • week 7 = 6 at $61 - six NFL teams on bye this week
  • week 8 = 5 at $37
  • week 9 = 1 at $17
  • week 10 = 2 at $26
  • week 11 = 1 at $3
  • week 12 = 2 at $13
  • week 13 = 4 at $47 - one of my studs is out this week
  • week 14 = 4 at $30 - two guys out here for one position, but I just have to do it
Finalized my roster yesterday morning at 10:07 CDT  and held onto it through the entry deadline, which has passed but still remains open for those who like to risk editing their roster after the deadline.

  • QB - Brady 9 $17, Darnold 13 $8 and Z. Wilson 6 $8
  • RB - Henry 13 $32, James Robinson 7 $16, Edwards 8 $11 and a quartet of $3 RBs - Stevenson 14, Breida 7, Gallman 6 and Ingram 10
  • WR - K Allen 7 $24, A Robinson 10 $23, Shenault 7 $13, Hardman 12 $10, Pittman 14 $9, Callaway 6 $5, B Edwards 8 $3 and M Valdes-Scanling 8 $3
  • TE - Andrews 8 $16, H Henry 14 $9, J Smith 14 $9 and D Arnold 13 $4
  • PK - Carlson 8 $3, McManus 11 $3 and Lambo 7 $3
  • DST - Cardinals 12 $3, Panthers 13 $3 and Cowboys 7 $2
Roster is filled with late risers at lower cost than projections call for including James Robinson, Edwards. Pittman and B Edwards. Took Brady as top QB so I can roster him in the contest and watch his record breaking season, Darnold who will blossom out from under the Gase Haze and Z Wilson who clears up the skies for the J-E-T-S, post Gase. Took Henry as I believe that he will be the first to pass 2,000 yards rushing in back to back seasons and with only 0.5 ppr, he is a bargain here. Love the Patriot TE combo matched up with the rookie QB. I think that both Henry (WPS) and J Smith outperform their cost. Took three on the less expensive side and three fairly cheap DSTs that fit in the Defense by Committee article by Mr. Clayton Gray.

Thankful for the contest here at Footballguys.com and looking forward to checking out the stats that the Turk passes along tomorrow or Friday to see how rare Henry and my cheap quartet of RBs are.

Keep up the chatter in the thread and may all the thread chatter entries enjoy healthy seasons.

One drastic change at the end because - well because I had to and to be honest learning one of my key players was anti-vaxx was not a risk I wanted for my team if the guy ends up getting himself shut down midseason and actually improved the position.

And while the contest tends to lock overnight and not necessarily right at 11:59 I'll keep to the way the rule is written as usual and stop updating my rooster now.

So here it is - NOT a place I expected to end up at all.

QB - Joe Burrow - CIN/10 - $14
QB - Ryan Fitzpatrick - WAS/9 - $9
QB - Trey Lance - SF/6 - $7
RB - Ezekiel Elliott - DAL/7 - $27
RB - James Robinson - JAX/7 - $16
RB - Damien Harris - NE/14 - $16
RB - Gus Edwards - BAL/8 - $11
RB - Giovani Bernard - TB/9 - $8
RB - Sony Michel - LAR/11 - $5
WR - Tyreek Hill - KC/12 - $32
WR - Courtland Sutton - DEN/11 - $15
WR - Odell Beckham - CLE/13 - $13
WR - Jakobi Meyers - NE/14 - $6
WR - Marquez Callaway - NO/6 - $5
WR - Bryan Edwards - LV/8 - $4
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/13 - $3
WR - DeSean Jackson - LAR/11 - $3
TE - Kyle Pitts - ATL/6 - $17
TE - Jonnu Smith - NE/14 - $9
TE - Cole Kmet - CHI/10 - $7
TE - Gerald Everett - SEA/9 - $7

TD - Philadelphia Eagles - PHI/14 - $2
TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/10 - $2
TD - New York Jets - NYJ/6 - $2
TD - Green Bay Packers - GB/13 - $2

Total value: 250

QB - 3 for $30.

As a Bengals homer there was no way my team was not going to have a reasonably price Burrow on the team.  Originally I was keen on pairing him with Jameis the kind of guy who is actually great in a boom or bust best-ball format.  Then I decided why not swing bigger and put Brady in for a guy who should light it up at a reasonable price.  But I'm totally committed to 3 QBs and even with Bridgewater in slot 3 it just felt that $36 was too much in the position.  I allowed myself to get won over by the upside of a Trey Lance who is going to gain a job over the season vs a Bridgewater who has a respectable chance at losing it.  I sorta stumbled onto Fitzpatrick as my #2 when looking at fits for Lance and thinking it over I think Fitz has the kind of potential for huge games that Winston has (with some pretty good weapons), plays in an awful division, really has no prospect for losing that job and doesn't have a coach who gets cute by half the way New Orleans does.  The Bengals got rid of the clods who got Burrow hurt last year so I am fine putting him out there as the #1.  Risky trio but necessary.

RB - 6 for $83

As it so often does in this contest, injury fate had a profound impact on my RB rooster.  Even though everybody is going to take these guys value made Robinson and the Gus Bus mandatory picks.  And the Rams-Pats  put Michel into a projection above his value that isn't present for pretty much the rest of the guys in that price range.  Gallman was a little tempting, I will say.  As for the other 3 slots for the longest time it was the other 2.  I had all kinds of guys in there.  Sometimes Harris from the Steelers, even had a C-E-H gambit there for a little while.  For quite a while a Chubb/Carson one-two punch was the plan.  As I continued to juggle I'd try to get to nosing around Zeke or Cook but sharing the bye with J Rob put me off of that.  I thought some more about those mid-teen options, partially as a means of taking a top back.  I was leery of going QB/RB from my Bengals - I usually diversity.  Finally I shuffled a few things around and settled on a different Harris - the one from New England and squeeze out enough dollars to squeeze Gio Bernard in there.  I had him in some early permutations and I just think there are going to be a few games that he's really going to shine there and show up in the scoresheet.  And moving to a 6-RB lineup made me more comfortable taking the gamble of having both Zeke and J Rob off in week 7 (I also systematically got rid of my other week 7 byes along the way.  As long as I can get 2 good RB numbers out of Harris/Gus/Gio and Michel I should be okay.

WR - 8 for $81

This was a wild ride for sure with a surprise ending.  Callaway, Edwards, and Valdes-Scantling were on board the whole way as the cheapies.  Didn't have less than 8 but late in the running I really though I would end up with 9.  Antonio Brown factored into most early interations as did Davis from Buffalo.  I tend to eschew the studs at the top and go for the solid citizens in the $17-$24 range.  McLaurin was my #1 for a good chunk of the time.  Somewhere along the line I realized DeSean was another worthy dart throw at $3.  Beckham became more and more solidified as time went on - just seems like he can way over-perform that price.  Sutton eventually slotted in and I kept looking for options but I think the talent and space made him a good buy.  I really didn't look to reach for a big dollar name until looking over my bye week situations and seeing that I had nobody with a week 12 bye.  I decided while reshuffling the TEs that if I reverted from 9 WR to 8 WR that I could get a guy like Deandre Hopkins in there.  And down the stretch up until about 11:30pm that looked like where it was at.  But Hopkins being vocal against the vaxx has me thinking that he might not be the best risk.  And I also realized that there was another week 12 bye option right there for only $2 more in Tyreek Hill.  I may regret the overhill defense that had me shuffle out Davis from Buffalo for Jakobi Meyers (yet another Patriot) but I think it was worth it.  So there's that 8.  Moving Davis does get rid of the only other week 7 bye so I have all other hands on deck in my shallow RB week.

TE - 4 for $40

This budget kept creeping up little by little.  Pitts was basically the linchpin the whole time.  Andrews has killed with me injuries and though I gave a passing thought at the end again I just couldn't pull the trigger on the guy.  I opted for the unknown and seemingly limitless potential of Pitts.  I settled on 4 TEs fairly early on originally doing things like Firkser and Akins and Arnold but I kept solidifying that group little by little over time.  I settled on Kmet and Everett after a while and then the last move in the position was to change the sketchy Arnold for the more solid Jonnu Smith (yet another Patriot).  I did explore getting rid of one of the Patriots to diversify (couldn't quite pull the trigger on Parris Campbell instead of Meyers above) but I think it might pay off in the end because of the way Belichick loves to mix up his game plans and spotlight different players in different match ups.  So having 3 bullets in that chamber for a relatively modest 29 is a risk I can live with.  Considered putting Gronk in place of Jonnu but I just don't know what kind of upside he has at this point.  At the very very end I did flirt with the idea of inverting flipping Tyreek for Kelce and in turn replacing Pitts and Jonnu for like a DK Metcalf but decided to leave the extra body in.  Hopefully scraping the middle instead of the bottom of the barrel at this position pays off.

PK - 3 for $8

Spent less time on this than any other position.  Once I culled out the guys who lost their jobs and guys who were starting the season hurt it go things down to around 24 options.  And I never buy the high ticket options here so it was matter of identifying the best 3 to take from the bargain bin.  McPherson was easy - the rookie looks awesome for the Bengals, the team should move the ball a bit better to get opportunities, and most importantly he has the range to get many more chances.  An absolute no-brainer at $2 as given the 5th-round pick investment his grip on the gig is solid.  Elliot, the kicker the Bengals drafted in round 5 and then stupidly cut is still holding down the gig in Philly and he doesn't seem like he's going anywhere.  Finally McManus should get a good number of opportunities in Denver and similarly he is on solid ground it seems so I feel good with him - naturally the 3 kickers have 3 different byes.

DEF - 4 for $8

$8 was pretty much gonna be the budget from the get go here and the plethora of $2 and $3 options made it easy to diversify for a modest price.  For a while I had the Colts as a $4 option but figured the 4-headed-monster was the way to go.  Once in while I'd get crazy and switch GB out for Arizona bursting the budget all the way up to $9 but when I did the Tyreek switch at the end getting that dollar back was part of the deal.  4 different bye weeks.  I'm good with this decision.

The bye breakdown for this 28-man rooster is as follows:

Week 6:  4 players for $31

Week 7:  2 players for $43 (my top 2 RB though :scared:)

Week 8:  2 players for $15 as NFL rules dictate both of my guys named Edwards have the same bye.

Week 9:  3 players for $24

Week 10: 4 players for $25

Week 11: 4 players for $26

Week 12:  1 player for $32

Week 13:  3 players for $18

Week 14:  5 players for $36

So there you go!! :boxing:

I’ve figured out the secret sauce:

I just need to have all the players that y’all don’t think will be super valuable, but then surprise! BAM! They all turn out to be super valuable.

Add a couple of can’t miss star players to the blender and BAM!

Winner.

It’s all so simple. :pickle:

I'll be happy when this finally locks!

I'm also glad I checked this thread, there was one sure to be heavily rostered player I had overlooked.

I waited until this evening to create my entry... which saved me countless roster changes as the various injuries happened throughout pre-season.

My late night iterations tonight have had roster sizes between 24 and 30... I landed on 26 - hopefully that's a good compromise between sufficient firepower but with a little more depth than usual to deal with the Covid wildcard.

Bye week distribution is good, I skewed it a bit toward the earlier weeks where possible.

ETA - man I'll be glad when this locks.

I dropped a QB and made tweaks with the extra cash in my pocket... final roster is at 27.

Looks like the contest is finally locked so I can quit churning my roster, here it is and let the chips lay as they may:

QB - Aaron Rodgers - GB/13 - $17

QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/7 - $9

QB - Jared Goff - DET/9 - $8

I went back and forth with Rodgers (stud) and Ryan (value) and in the end wanted my best lineup in the final should I make it and Rodgers always seems to have magic at the end of the season. Ben still has some juice in the tank and is great value at $9 and Goff will not be great but in the era of COVID/Injuries/Byes I can’t justify not having a 3rd QB. He was the only one that low or lower who was a lock to be the starter all year.

RB - Ezekiel Elliott - DAL/7 - $27

RB - Joe Mixon - CIN/10 - $27

RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/13 - $26

RB - Sony Michel - LAR/11 - $5

RB - Carlos Hyde - JAX/7 - $4

RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/14 - $3

RB - Mark Ingram - HOU/10 - $3

Zeke/Mixon and Chubb have pretty much been my 3 main guys throughout, and should finish in RB 7-9 territory, 2 starters and 1 will be a flex most likely. Michel is a value that many will have rostered but couldn’t pass up on that. Everyone is so high on Robinson but Hyde will get carries and I get this feeling that Meyer isn’t that high on Robinson so Hyde may be good value as a dart throw. Stevenson is a dart throw (although a high roster % one) but at $3 was worth it for that occasional long TD run or catch. Ingram I feel will be a huge steal at $3 as he will get plenty of early down work in Hou.

WR - Mike Evans - TB/9 - $21

WR - Tee Higgins - CIN/10 - $18

WR - Jerry Jeudy - DEN/11 - $16

WR - Marquez Callaway - NO/6 - $5

WR - Bryan Edwards - LV/8 - $4

WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/13 - $3

Evans will get his. Higgins and Jeudy will both be top 2 if not the top WR on their teams and will see lots of targets. Calloway will probably be the most rostered player in the contest but can’t pass up the value. Edwards is a dart throw/value/high roster% given the news coming out of camp with him dominating and MVS I had him in season long last year and his hot/cold was maddening week in week out but is perfect for this contest as he will have those weeks where he gets a bomb TD and then nothing for a few, that may help when its needed!

TE - T.J. Hockenson - DET/9 - $19

TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $16

TE - Zach Ertz - PHI/14 - $7

Hock and Andrews have been my 2 from the start and will both have big years given the lack of receiving options (either through talent/injury or trust the QB has with them) on their respective teams so one may be a flex often.Ertz staying in Philly will be a great value as he will still have those games where he takes over and Goedert will also get his. Ertz just seems to find a way to get targets and at $7 was a better option than the Arnold option I was looking at prior with that OC not focusing on TE Usage much.

PK - Brandon McManus - DEN/11 - $3

PK - Dustin Hopkins - WAS/9 - $3

PK - Evan McPherson - CIN/10 - $2

McManus is a long-distance king as well as Hopkins, and I think McPerson will surprise many with his distance this year.

TD - Green Bay Packers - GB/13 - $2

TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/7 - $2

Dallas with Quinn will be much better this year and I like the Packers Def this year at that price. Using the SoS and Streaming Defences articles I found that the Packers/Dall dst are nearly on the same par as the top dst so this was a place I could scrimp on $$.

Total value: 250

It will be interesting to see how the % cutdown affects us all each week and I hopefully had just enough of the high rostered players balanced out with the uniqueness that is needed to win it all.

Flame away.

Tweaked a little and then it locked

QB - No change
RB - swapped CEH, Gus for Nick Chubb and Sony Michel
WR - swapped Woods, AB, Bryan Edwards for CD lamb,  Jeudy
TE - no change. Like QB these 3 have been locked for a while.
PK - No change
TD - Had a dollar, swapped Packers for Browns

i suspect I’ll regret dropping CEH and Antonio the most.

I obviously could be wrong but I feel the pairing of Jimmy G and Lance was an easy choice. Get the benefit of injury insurance and high upside for $11. I had considered Teddy at $5 instead but unless he shocks us all he’s unlikely to be used over Brady or Lance once he takes the field. stafford was very enticing but in the end I wanted the GOAT and the high upside kid. Fields could be better this year at the same price but I’ll bet on the 49ers franchise over da bears.

strongly considered zeke over Chubb, that one might bite in the end but even in a platoon and not a top receding back I think Chubb feasts this year almost at Henry level. And he probably will be lesser owned If that helps.

i wanted jeudy on the team and had him in for most iterations, finally got him back in at the end but at the cost of some depth and AB

agree 100% on Chubb! and Jeudy will be a monster this year.

Who?

Considered this as well and had it in my lineup for a bit. Didn't like what I saw in the last preseason game. If they contnue to run a system where they interchange QBs could hold both of them down. And if Brady misses week 6 you take a zero.

After about a million versions this is what I ended up with. Never get very far in this contest so take this with a grain of salt. If nothing else, I'm sure I lead the field in rooster changes.

QB - Jameis Winston - NO/6 - $10
QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/7 - $9
QB - Justin Fields - CHI/10 - $7

Was all over at QB. Fields never left my lineup. Tried 2 QBs with Fields and a more expensive QB but just couldn't trust going with just 2. Had Lance in about 90% of my tries as well. I like Winston's potential in best ball. Fields if/when he takes over can be a big difference maker. Came down to either Big Ben or Fitzpatrick and went back and forth on this one. Tie-breaker was I don't trust Washington if they fall out of the playoffs to take a look at Heinicke in the later weeks.

For a very brief time I went super cheap and had Winston, Fields and Bridgewater to spend elsewhere. Just couldn't do it.

RB - Joe Mixon - CIN/10 - $27
RB - Antonio Gibson - WAS/9 - $26
RB - James Robinson - JAX/7 - $16
RB - Gus Edwards - BAL/8 - $11
RB - Sony Michel - LAR/11 - $5
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/14 - $3

My RB1 varied from Barkley, Elliott to Mixon. Saved a buck by going Mixon over Barkley. Really like Elliott but same bye as Robinson. Gibson and Robinson never left my lineup although I don't like the presence of Hyde. Considered going Harris over Robinson but that late week 14 bye was iffy. Once Dobbins got hurt Edwards was a main fixture and no-brainer. Michel has the potential to take the majority of carries in LA. Never liked predicting a NE backfield but all you need is a 2 TD game by Stevenson.

WR - Tee Higgins - CIN/10 - $18
WR - Chase Claypool - PIT/7 - $17
WR - Jerry Jeudy - DEN/11 - $16
WR - Corey Davis - NYJ/6 - $10
WR - Antonio Brown - TB/9 - $10
WR - Jakobi Meyers - NE/14 - $6
WR - Bryan Edwards - LV/8 - $4
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/13 - $3

The 3 WRs from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Denver were always in play here. Switched between Boyd or Higgins, Jeudy or Sutton and Claypool orJohnson. Really like Corey Davis potential but alternated between him and Eliajah Moore as well to save a dollar. Ultimately went with the safer Davis. Antonio Brown at $10 was always solid in my roster. Bryan Edwards is a no-brainer at the $4 price. Reports out of GB are that MVS has really shown improvement and maturity this off-season. Not sure I'd trust him in weekly lineups but best ball at $3 I'm in. Switched between Meyers and Callaway many, many times. Not sure what happens when T. Smith and Trautman comes back but I like Callaway.

TE - Kyle Pitts - ATL/6 - $17
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $16
TE - Jonnu Smith - NE/14 - $9

Always wanted to go big here with the 1.5 PPR. Went back and forth between Hock and Pitts. saved the $2 and banking on Pitts but he has me nervous as a rookie TE. That's where Andrews comes in as insurance and I expect to get a flex score between these two a couple of times. 3rd TE was all over the place. Settled on Smith for his potential. Had Everett here as well. Also liked Gronk, especially in best ball for those 2 TD games. Just sooo many weapons in TB though. I suspect this will be my biggest regret.

PK - Brandon McManus - DEN/11 - $3
PK - Josh Lambo - JAX/7 - $3

Would've like 3 kickers here but sacrificed 1 to upgrade at QB.

TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/7 - $2
TD - Las Vegas Raiders - LV/8 - $2

Bye weeks:

Week 6 – 3 @ $37

Week 7 – 5 @ $47

Week 8 – 4 @ $33

Week 9 – 2 @ $36

Week 10 – 3 @ $52

Week 11 – 3 @ $24

Week 12 – 0

Week 13 – 1 @ $3

Week 14 – 3 @ $18

All in all I'm pretty happy with the bye week distribution across positions and early season distribution.

Good luck to all

Here we go…. The winning lineup  😉

Total value: 250
Close.

QB - Tom Brady - 17  (9)
QB - Ben Roethlisberger - 9 (7)
QB - Teddy Bridgewater - 5 (11)

Brady seemed like the best way to put up huge numbers without paying the premium for Mahomes. Ben seems to be hugely underpriced--3 top 20 WRs, a RB who is in the top 10 in large part because of his receiving ability and two capable TEs (too bad Freiermuth wasn't available here), but the QB throwing to them is bottom half? That doesn't compute. I was tempted to go with just 2 QBs, but when their average age is 40+, a 3rd seemed wise.

RB - Ezekiel Elliott - 27 (7)
RB - Nick Chubb - 26 (13)
RB - Gus Edwards - 11 (8)
RB - Sony Michel - 5 (11)
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - 3 (14)
RB - Wayne Gallman - 3 (6)

I tried to drop Zeke out, first for Najee and then for Robinson, but couldn't find a way to use the savings that made me like my lineup more that way, so decided to zig while everyone else zagged with Robinson. Chubb, like Brady, seemed like a way to get top 4 or 5 production without paying the extra bucks the others at that level cost. I actually had Edwards on my early iterations, before the Dobbins injury, so it was a no-brainer to keep him there. Michel and Stevenson were the "necessary" bargain adds. For the longest time, I had Ollison, since I'm not a big Davis believer. When Gallman took his spot in ATL, he did it on my roster, too.

WR - Calvin Ridley - 27 (6)
WR - Cooper Kupp - 20 (11)
WR - Laviska Shenault - 13 (7)
WR - Michael Pittman - 9 (14)
WR - Marquez Callaway - 5 (6)
WR - Bryan Edwards - 4 (8)

I normally go for 7 or 8 bargain WRs, and I've had pretty good success doing that, but, when I'm eliminated, it's usually because I get a week where they all score 9 points.  Decided to upgrade at the top and then take advantage of the guys who seemed poised to really outscore their early rankings and cheap prices. Only bye internal bye conflict is Ridley/Callaway, which I can live with, and only Shenault has a bye conflict with my two stud RBs, so I should be able to pick up an extra flex score here when either Chubb or Zeke aren't active.

TE - Travis Kelce - 30 (12)
TE - Mark Andrews - 16 (8)
TE - Dan Arnold - 4 (13)

I always go big at TE, and there just isn't anyone as certain to produce as Kelce.  With all of Baltimore's injuries, Andrews may be their leading receiver and seemed like the best buy of the 2-5 guys behind Kelce. Both of their bye weeks blend well with my other positions, so hopefully, I can count on one of them as a flex score most weeks. I was afraid to go with only two guys at such a key position, but didn't have much money left, so went with Arnold, hoping Waldman is right about him.

PK - Jason Sanders - 4 (14)
PK - Daniel Carlson - 3 (8)
PK - Greg Joseph - 3 (7)

Meh, 3 cheap kickers who are likely to keep their jobs. Had Jason Myers for most of my iterations, but swapped him out for Sanders when Draft Dominator insisted that I was the weakest in Week 9 (Brady's bye).

TD - Philadelphia Eagles - 2
TD - Green Bay Packers - 2
TD - Dallas Cowboys - 2

Same analysis as kickers, but was happy to see that these 3 cover two of the higher rated combos in the DTBC article.

QB - Patrick Mahomes - 27
QB - Ryan Fitzpatrick - 9
QB - Teddy Bridgewater - 5
RB - Christian McCaffrey - 39
RB - James Robinson - 16
RB - Gus Edwards - 11
RB - Sony Michel - 5
WR - Tyreek Hill - 32
WR - Jerry Jeudy - 16
WR - Corey Davis - 10
WR - Mecole Hardman - 10
WR - Jakobi Meyers - 6
WR - Marquez Callaway - 5
TE - Darren Waller - 27
TE - Jonnu Smith - 9
TE - Gerald Everett - 7
PK - Jason Myers - 4
PK - Nick Folk - 3
PK - Brandon McManus - 3
TD - Philadelphia Eagles - 2
TD - New York Jets - 2
TD - Green Bay Packers - 2

I wanted to grab my top player at each position (sans K or D) with the stack of Mahomes (who I think would be low owned) Hill and Hardman.  Edwards, Callaway, Robinson and Michel will be highly owned but I felt like I couldn't pass them up.

While that sounds great for the first 11 weeks, I'm not sure I'd want all that money (and 1/3 of my WRs and over 1/2 of my WR $$) sitting on my bench in Week 12.
