3rd Official Free For All Chess Tournament- Round 6 Posted (1 Viewer)

Kutta defeats Joffer in a very interesting game.
At least 3 different times I thought I had you. Believe it or not, I missed move 33..KxN. For some reason I thought you had to recapture with the rook. That's awful :lmao: great game

Well that's funny because I missed you blocking my queen check with your bishop at move 32. I was thinking I was threatening mate that whole time there. But I was so concerned about that queen/bishop mate that I was happy to lose the exchange there. Very nice game.

Please tell me you didn't play f3, Kf2 again?!
Funny that you should mention it, I did give it another go with that same opening with Tim!

Fared better than the first game, but still went down in flames in the end.

Having said that, I had that same result playing as black vs. Tim, so make of that what you will.

I think in that last game you had a winning advantage had you not missed a couple of key moves. If I have time later I will post it here.

Not sure if Abraham noticed but I used a little know play called the Peens Gambit. When finished it was just me with two Queens. It still took me a while to finish but from what I understand that's part of the Peens Gambit too.

*Note - you can only play the Peens Gambit as white.

Just keep in mind, on that Wikipedia link Tim posted on 1. f3, there's a quote from Edmar Mednis, a FAR better chess player than I, stating "of the 20 possible opening moves for White, f3 is the worst." Just sayin'

Yeah but it doesn't much matter Kasparov. Mednis and those like him play a level of chess such that if you make a poor opening or poor move it will be instantly exploited by the other side who will likely win quickly. That's not my level, nor I would guess the level of anyone in this tournament. When Dancing Bones plays that opening I can think to myself that's weird and probably wrong, but I have NO idea how to translate that thought into a win. And not only that but I'm going to be far more susceptible to any cheap tactical traps that might arise than a high level chess player would. So if he's comfortable with that opening, why not? It won't be successful at a higher level but it might work for him here.

nysfl2 (3.5) vs. Psychopav (3) (1-0)

Got up a knight early, and was able to maintain the advantage to the end. Fun game - thought I had him a couple of times earlier in the game, and he squirmed out of it.
