Next to market or Jeep will likely be a Pickup style Jeep most-likely based off the
JK platform (expected 2016 Model Year Release). Jeep hasn't had a pickup since the 80's with the Comanche (My first vehicle was an 86 Comanche).
It will be interesting to see if they run quadra-coil (limits load capacity but increases capability off road) which has been the signature wrangler suspension since 1997, or if they'll move to a leaf sprung rear to increase payload capacity.
It will also be interesting to see how the engine situation sorts out. Jeep has finally started moving into Turbo-diesel territory. I'd LOVE to see a JK-platform based Pickup featuring the
3.0L Turbo Diesel V6 in the '14 Grand Cherokee. (240 and impressive torque at 420 lb-ft - 7200 Towing Capacity - 22 mpg city/30 highway economy). Certainly not trying to compete with the true workhorse pickups but more than enough power for the vast majority of the market.
