***OFFICIAL*** FBG All things BATTLEFIELD Thread (1 Viewer)

It's been a little while since my son and I have played, but we try to go every few weeks. He's been playing Just Cause 3 which he got for Christmas and I've been playing nothing. :(

After taking a break for a while to get through Metal Gear Solid V, I've been popping back in every once in a while to get some game time in. I'm out of practice and struggling but I'll still jump on if anyone wants to play.

My return may not last that long though. Xcom 2 comes out in a month and I'm pretty confident that will take up a lot of my time.

Son and I had a few good hours of play Saturday over the double XP weekend.  Popped some 200% and went up a few ranks.  Good stuff.

Poop. Can't find anything to hold my attention lately. Got The Division and while I liked it I didn't stick with it. Madden has been a waste.  Bought Arkham Knight and haven't played it. Got Unchartered 4 but haven't finished it.

Out. Played the alpha and didn't like it at all. The specialization of weapons  (they're really only good at their intended ranges and useless everywhere else) really goes against my play style.  But the big turnoff was the vehicle balance. Tanks were too powerful and I'm more of an infantry guy. It's obviously realistic but doesn't make for fun game play for someone like me.

BF 5 announced today.  Return to WW2, looks pretty impressive.  No premium passes, either.  All maps will be free.  I wonder if there will be a move towards the Fortnite model on microtransactions with cosmetics, etc.

Really disappointed they're going with a ww2 game. Was really hoping they'd go back to modern (or at close to modern)

I kinda feel like I need modern level weapon customization to enjoy a game like this

Anyone going to be playing the Open Beta?  I've got premier so I'm going to give it a shot.  I've got a discord server we can use as well, let me know if interested.

Preloaded, ready for the 14th.  Only got it 5 days early instead of this Friday since no way I am joining the EA gaming membership.

Ugh.  Started playing today.  The single player is pretty fun, but the MP is about as CoD as you can get.  Run fast and hip fire.  Die and respawn faster than you can even think.  Why, Battlefield, why did you think that becoming CoD was a good idea?  You have to know who you are and be true to that, and you did not.

I wanted to like and buy this game but I think I'm passing again. I like that they've made the shooting more skill based (gotten rid of suppression based random bullet deviation)  but there's just too much I hate about what Dice has done here..

- Making 2 historical games in a row was beyond stupid. This should have been a modern game.

- Making a WW2 game without the Americans or any of the battles anybody cares about was even more stupid (I know they're likely coming later in free DLC, but I'm not dropping money for the game and a new video card on the hopes of future content)

- I'm not some alt-right #######, but the silly virtue signalling Dice is doing having female characters in the game is just dumb. Just like when a woman is doing the play by play for a sporting event, hearing their voice  breaks the immersion. Even watching youtube videos of the game, hearing female screams every 10 seconds is super distracting.

Regarding the pace.....honestly man, we just might be getting old. The game is definitely faster than bf2 (which was really clunky) but is it THAT much faster than Bf3 or Bf4? Probably not. As I get older, I can certainly feel myself getting worse at games. I was basically a 2.0 K/D player in Bf3 and Bf4, which IMO is pretty damn good for someone that doesn't really tank-whore and played a lot of solo hours (so no teammates to revive). I was able to play extremely aggressive and was almost never outside the top 4 or 5 players on the scoreboard in terms of total kills.  When I was playing the Bf5 beta, I was lucky to be in the 1.5 range on most matches. Some of this is due to being a little rusty (having not played Bf1), learning the maps and shooting mechanics, etc. But I think part of it is that I'm just getting old and my reflexes are slowing down.  Its been like 4 years since Bf4's prime and father time is undefeated.

Definitely missing the good old days. (Bf2 with a 6 man squad $$$)   Last couple of BF games....meh. Bf1 had decent enough game play (just based on the alpha and vids I saw afterward) but the setting just did nothing for me. Bf5 looked like absolute hot garbage.  Thankfully we're less than a year from Bf6, which I have to imagine will be modern day setting. Pretty baffling how badly they've tanked this franchise.

Got my FPS fix from PUBG for a couple of years and warzone for the past 9 months. Always disliked COD gameplay but warzone isn't REALLY COD and they really did do a fantastic job with it. Solos kinda sucks but I'm able to get some squad runs in with my brother and some of his boys.

Will definitely be in for Bf6.  (again....assuming modern setting and a decent looking game during the buildup). I've hopped on Bf4 a few times over the past year and it still sorta holds up. The gun play is definitely a little clunky compared to more modern games and there aren't a lot of servers anymore, but its still fun (and looks awesome on a modern PC and my 34 inch curved alienware monitor) :nerd:

Happy Holidays boys.

Some good times for sure. When we rolled out an FBG squad we were favored to win every time.

I’m still playing PUBG but I’m terrible and I don’t have a known group like the Battlefield days. Would love to relive the dream if there is ever a game we can all get back into.

Also, where has the eyedoc been?

I saw you pop into Left 4 Dead and if I wasn't in the middle of a raid I would have joined you.  I have a Discord server that we can group up in if ever interested.

Mainly I play:

  • DC Universe Online - MMO geek stuff but fun.  It's a grind for sure
  • Warframe - Space Ninjas, can just pick up and play but some hardcore end game stuff in there as well
  • Division 2 - Really liked this one for awhile but haven't picked it up in forever
  • RDR2 - Was a lot of fun but have taken nearly a year off
If there's something you guys want to do, light the bat signal :)

Been wondering this as well. As far as I can tell (maybe I'm just bad at searching/reading the profiles here) he hasn't posted here in almost a year. Hasn't been on Steam in nearly a month.

I'm not friends with him on FB but Corp is. Seems like all is fine by the looks of things

Things look good for him on Facebook. Earlier this week he took delight in Michigan “conceding” to his beloved Buckeyes.

I fell back into Left 4 Dead when I saw Jevy and Baron pick up new achievements for a new campaign. That game is still pretty good fun, and a lot easier than PUBG.

ETA- I see they finally have a release date for Back4Blood!  June 22nd.

That looks awesome!  I have not seen a new campaign.  I've been looking for something to do, that might scratch the itch.  Let me know if interested (anyone that is).  @    me so I get an email :)

Update your left 4 dead 2 and I’ll hit you up for the new campaign in the next few days. It’s short, 2 stages.

So, the new BF "Reveal" is expected to happen in the next month or so.  Obviously this is all speculation/unconfirmed, but this article (citing a "known insider", whatever that means) came out today....

https://charlieintel.com/battlefield-6-leak-reveals-title-surprising-setting-details/91177/

- Near Future setting (2030ish)

- Traditional class setup (Assault, recon, etc) but with some "abilities" similar to COD perks.

- will likely have a stand-alone Battle Royale that MAY be free to play (I have to think this is the road they go down. Based on the success of Warzone, this makes all the sense in the world. For whatever reason....a huge percentage of the population spends boatloads on cosmetic microtransactions)

Talks about the campaign as well, but that doesn't do a ton for me.

Previous leaks indicated that they'll be bumping up the player count and instituting more extensive destruction, which obviously makes a ton of sense. They know they need to hit a home run here, so near future setting is the obvious move. Allows them to have all the weapons people want to use (With the customization) plus they can take a little liberty with robots, advanced drones and other stuff that might be in early development.

I'm just so desperate to have a FPS that I really like to play again. REALLY hope they dont botch this one.  I've played a decent amount of Warzone, but solos is usually pretty weak (very campy, but EXTREMELY satisfying on the rare occasion I manage to win one)  and the people I play squads with (mostly my brother and some of his buddies) aren't the best running mates. Plus they prefer the Alcatraz island Resurgence Rebirth mode, which I can't stand.

Trailer finally dropped. As expected, near future setting. Looks like they're adding some cool stuff and at least this thing isn't dead in the water right away like Bf5.

A little worried that they're gonna rely too much on the tornadoes and other stuff environment stuff. While that stuff is cool to see the first time, it quickly turns into something annoying rather than fun.

Gameplay reveal on Sunday. Looking forward to it.

Downside.....it's gonna be next to impossible to get a new video card (unless you want to pay like a 400% markup)  for the release since there's still a massive component shortage.

Holy crap, got chills.  Loved it!

Finally a game that should use the new system I built :)
Yeah, we'll see what actual game play looks like on Sunday, but they certainly hit a home run with the trailer.

Lots of people bagging on the "specialist" idea but I'll withhold judgement until the information is fully out there.

Maybe they're holding it back for now, but VERY surprised they didn't announce a free to play battle royale like warzone. Glad they're dedicating all the resource to multiplayer (no single player either) but with how much $$ activision is raking in via microtransactions, I'm shocked EA isn't going the same route.

Obviously they have a battle pass system (and I'm sure they'll be selling skins and other stuff in the store. They'll make a fortune) but a free to play game to get people in the door seems like the new ideal setup.

I was just coming to post that I read an article that said no campaign and no battle royale.  I think those are great steps.  I'll likely re-up with EA Pro Play.  I had it 2 years ago when they released Madden for PC and enjoyed it a lot, played more FIFA than anything.  Played Anthem until it hit rock bottom.  If BF2042 is part of that, I'll likely go that route.

single player....I totally get. Its just not their thing.

But like it or not (and I do like it, although I'm kinda over warzone).....Battle Royale is a huge content driver. Its the main focus of most of the big streamers, which drive a lot of the hype around a game.

Maybe they'll have another mode that can do that, but I dont think the big guys are gonna stream regular multiplayer long after the launch data.

Just saw only 7 maps on release. I know they're gonna be very big, but that's still REALLY light.

For comparison....

bf4-  release with 10 maps (although one was the Metro remake, so that doesn't really count) Ended up with 32 (plus a night version of another) after all the DLC

Bf3- released with 9. Ended up with 29

Bad Company 2- Kinda weird since they released different version of the maps at different times (for rush, conquest and other mods). But it looks like they had only 8 at launch

Bf2- 12 at launch. Ended up with 29 after all the expansions.

I get that its tougher to make games now (and bigger maps= more work) but 7 is kinda rough.

I can't even find a place to order.  It's all "enter a raffle" type situations.  Where did you get yours?

I haven't even tried at this point. Everything I've seen says its impossible to get a decent card at anything less than an absurd price.

Currently rolling with a RTX 2060 Super that I bought when I built my rig about 2 years ago. It does fine (but not great. Hard to get over like 75 frames) on warzone but I worry that BF will grind it to a hault.

May have to just dial down the settings until the market gets somewhat back to normal.
