I like Maron a lot. But he is poorly prepared sometimes. He only talks about what he's watched. Leigh has a new Netflix series, and Maron didn't mention it once - which means he hasn't seen it. Dude, spend 30 minutes and just watch one episode.
Holy crap, that is bad. I didn't finish listening last night but assumed the whole purpose of being on with him was to plug her show.

He does stuff like that a lot. He's the opposite of Rogan, where as Rogan has a tendency to dive too deep , Maron doesn't go deep enough if it doesn't involve him.

Maron always uses the line, "Who has time to watch all this content?"

I have a very busy life. But like everyone else, I make time to watch the shows and movies I love. So it's not a question of time, it's the fact that EVERYONE makes time to do the things that are important to them. If Maron would rather practice guitar, I totally understand. But some of his interviews would be improved if he bothered to even just watch one episode. He had Natasha Leggero on once, and Maron hadn't bothered to watch one episode of her hilarious series Another Period. Just 30 minutes! Do it!

That's where I was too going into the JJL interview and I didn't finish it either. I mean they're both firmly in the Netflix stable now (Maron in GLOW, and will be part of season two) so its kind of dumbfounding they (Netflix) didn't get into both of their ears about promoting. Or if they tried to, that it didn't manifest itself into being done. Maron did bring up GLOW and Netflix. There's the golden opportunity to go into Atypical and it didn't happen.

The Great Albums:

really glad I stumbled on this one.  A couple guys that are the main hosts and they are musicians themselves (also have some decent guests) talk about an album in it's entirety.  Talk about background of the band, other albums, etc.. and then go into a song by song review of said albums.  Anything from Weezer to Slayer to Springsteen are episodes that I have encountered so far.
Thanks, this has been really enjoyable.  I won't be subscribing since I don't care to listen to episodes for albums I don't know, but I cherry picked 20-30 of them and have listened to all but 4.  It's interesting to hear their perspective because they're 10 years younger than all of us.  It really points out how much your age matters to how you perceive an album.

Upon looking for suggestions of other podcasts to try, I stumbled upon:

My Dad Wrote a Porno.  Obviously NSFW.  The premise is one of the podcaster's 60 year old father writes a bad erotic novel, so of course they read a chapter an episode and bag on it.  Bad writng, UK humor and accents, bad sex scenes, etc..
My wife loves this.

anyone listen to The Pete and Sebastian podcast? Basically two comedians riffing about their lives for one hour every week (Fridays). Pete is a comedian and writer for a show on CBS and Sebastian is a big comedian you may have seen on tv (Sebastian Maniscalco)

Wanted to recommend a funny horror film podcast:

Forever Midnight

Produced locally here in Northern California, very funny.
I will try this one out.  Seems like they talk about quite a few I haven't seen though.

I have been listening more to Doug Loves Movies.  Love the games at the end, so my ideal would be that instead of the 2/3rds BS 1/3 movie trivia, it was at minimum reverse of that.  A lot of times I just skip ahead to the games at the end.

Forever Midnight talks a lot about the hilarious exploitation movies I loved from the 1980s. But even if you haven't seen the movies they're discussing, I find the hosts to be pretty entertaining. I have listened to the entire Doug Loves Movies series. Big fan - especially when "Mark Wahlberg" makes an appearance.

ooof, gave this about a 2min shot and then turned it off.  I didn't like how it kind of tried to emulate sports talk radio in it's presentation.  And then they got on the mic all loud guido-y NY dudes and I couldn't hang.  I'm sick though, so I needed something to relax to.

Guessing that's Pete Holmes

As jdoggy mentioned, that’s definitely Daniel Van Kirk, and he’s a really funny dude.

If you want to hear more of him, I’d definitely recommend “Dumb People Town”, which DVK hosts along with the Sklar Brothers.  Weekly podcast that takes a look at three bizarre/strange unusual recent news stories each week. The three, along with a weekly guest (usually a comic or comedic writer) provide commmentary/improv on those stories.  “Mark Wahlberg” makes a lot of appearances there, as do many other “celebrities”.

Yeah, I listened to a couple The Great Albums episodes and really enjoyed them. Great pick.

I am the opposite of Tick- I listen more to the episodes for albums I am not familiar with.  It has gotten me to try different albums and think about bands I usually don't, like The Replacements.

I was in with both feet when I saw the title "Dumb People Town." And I hopped out almost as quickly when I saw "Sklar Brothers."

Anybody know what happened to Dan Carlin? Been radio silent for a while
Hardcore History was what got me hooked on Podcasts in the first place - He's been so slow releasing that I have to go re-listen to earlier episodes to remember what's going on.  I also felt like his last 2-3 series have been flops.  Kind of moved on at this point.

He’s started a new feed called Hardcore History Addendum where he’s focusing on releasing shorter, more frequent content to complement the main show.

The last Common Sense I listened to (I think it was Common Sense) he said he didn't know what to do with that podcast any longer so I got the feeling he was tapping out for a while. Looking forward to this Addendum podcast, been jonesing for a decent history podcast for a while. Tried History on Fire but I just can't listen to the dude.

I have only listened to a couple of them, but I am digging on Ear Hustle.  It's a podcast by inmates from San Quentin telling a variety of stories about their lives in prison and life before they got there.  I saw it on a couple lists of "best new podcast of 2017" and decided to give it a go.

In the best of the year finale, Scott Auckerman made some kind of cryptic reference that implied Comedy Bang! Bang! could either be changing or ending this year. Not happy to hear that.

Just found The Rewatchables from the Ringer. Group of people including Bill Simmons talking movies that are always rewatchable.

Currently listening to the episode about "10 Things I hate about you"

The idea sounds great, but I pretty much despise Bill Simmons. Does everyone episode include him relating the movie back to what the Celtics record was the first time he watched it?

For film lovers, The Cinefiles is quite good. I know there's a lot of movie podcasts but this one is pretty top notch- both hosts are very well versed in film and film history.

Carlin's Hardcore History just added a new one this weekend, Painfotainment. Not sure what this is going to be, 4hr 34min.
I just can’t listen for that long. I really think if he’d break them down into 45 minute episodes it would be more enjoyable.

Painfortainment - episode 1 - the premise, episode 2 - the players,  episode 3 - the conflict, etc...

I could listen to Carlin describe grass growing for however long he wants to talk about it but I hear you. I never listen to them straight through, hour here, hour there. If it's really compelling I'll make time to listen to more but I don't think I have a 4hr period during my day where i could focus on the pod and not be distracted with work/life.

That’s basically how I do it to, it would be easier if they had natural break points. I can’t do 4 hours straight - but if I knew I needed 38 minutes to get through part 4, game on. Instead I’ve got to listen and then try and figure out when is a good time to take a break.

Can't you stop it and come back to it?
Of course you can, but that’s kind of the point. Why wouldn’t the person creating the content break it down into natural breaking points instead of me not knowing if I’m in the middle of something?

Its like writing a book and not having chapters leaving it completely up the reader to guess when it’s time to put it down.

He looks to be in half of them. I just  listened to the 10 things episode, which I enjoyed. Haven't listened to any other.

Used to really like Simmons but he has gotten stale. Will let you know when I listen to one of his episodes

Another movie podcast that I haven't listened to is called "Movie Crush " from the guys who do "How stuff works" podcast. Simikar to the rewatchabls one.

So I actually did two already this morning - a few good men and white men can’t jump.  They were both good. He got a little obnoxious in the white me can’t jump episode, but not as bad as usual.

His interview with Paul Thomas Anderson is really good

About halfway through this one, interesting subject that kind of goes off Carin's beaten path. Dan delves into the mobs fascination with watching executions and torture at mass events. In typical Carlin fashion he describes events in detail so if that creeps you out this one is probably not for you.

Listened to Young Charlie. Basically a run down of the life of Charles Manson. Pretty decent story and I really liked how the two narrators told the story together. I really didn’t know much about Manson other than he was a sort of cult leader and the Sharon Tate murder.

Remember This is a classic Hollywood podcast and they did a season about Manson and his Hollywood connections. It was really interesting but also really troubling how easily so many were brainwashed by a guy that was nothing more than a narcissistic cut rate con man and a rather dumb one at that.

I've added a few dynasty and IDP podcasts:

The Back Row Fantasy Show

Dynasty Blueprint

DLF Dynasty Podcast

Edge Crushers - IDP Podcast

Dynasty Nerds Podcast

PFF Presents: Fantasy Specialty...

Read & React IDP Podcast

Some of those I subscribe to, others I pick and choose based on topic.

Check out the podcast Unconcluded, it's a real time investigation into the disappearance of a friend of mines sister in Orlando.  She has been missing 12 years, and it's just a really weird & interesting case.
