Next Elite Dynasty Wide or TE? (1 Viewer)

For wides, I'm figuring most have AJG, Julio, DT, Dez, Calvin and Gordon in the elite tier. Any longshots out there that you see making a Gordon-like leap into the first tier. I'm talking about outside the more likely choices like Alshon, Keenan and Cordarelle?

Also - see any TEs that can crack the Jimmy/Gronk tier?

I don't see anybody breaking into that tier of WR's. I could see one or two guys falling out of it, but it's hard to imagine someone breaking into it. I'd say Watkins and Evans have the best shot of eventually joining the Alshon/Allen/Marshall/Cobb tier.

TE: None. Unless Cameron gets a good QB and Shanahan heavily utilizes him.

Mike Evans

Justin Hunter

Ladarius Green
Michael Floyd, Da'Rick Rodgers, Mike Evans.

Zach Ertz.

What these guys said. I think Rogers is too much of a head case to ever realize his beast potential (ditto Kenny Britt) but I'd have the other three names on my shortlist.

Just for kicks I'll throw in Charles Johnson - an unbelievable height/weight/speed combo, if he fully recovers from his ACL injury he has a clear shot to the #2 role in Cleveland assuming the Browns don't draft Watkins.

Ertz is in a great situation to put up video-game numbers but I'm not sure he's enough of a true physical freak in the Graham / Gronk mold to ever reach that level. He'll get his share of VBD but I think his most likely outcome is a Greg Olsen / Dallas Clark-like career. Green OTOH is more likely to flame out but has a genuine "stud" ceiling IMO.

Although both Hunter and Johnson would suffer from lack of a top QB - Gordon showed that wasn't needed, but it would be really tough to get two Browns WRs and Cam to produce "elite" type stats without an upgrade at QB.

TE:

Cassius Clay could make the leap. More so in PPR. Not Graham type but Olsen/Pitta/Witten level.

Totally off the radar for most, I'd watch out for Taylor Thompson and Brandon Williams.

Oh, and of course, Vance McDonald.

Since OP mentioned longshots, I went through the bargain bin and pulled one from each category who can be had cheap and could realistically land in the top two tiers of fantasy scoring. Keep in mind these are longshots before you blast me for even bringing up the names.

WR: Jermaine Kearse - Dude catches everything thrown his way, even when contested or being interfered with as you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b1Dc03OEfU

May never reach full potential in that offense, but I think there is much more to him than just deep ball specialist.

TE: Ryan Griffin - Another guy who has a ton of potential and is in an offense, where he could rise in the next year or two. I think he is the best TE on a team where Owen Daniels produced for years. I think he can be better. Of course he will need a QB for that to happen, but I'm buying.

:) agree with both. I didn't mention Kearse just because I think I've gone too far with my predictions with him (he's my WR3 in one league - DEEP league).

WR - Maclin

TE - Ertz

Hometown bias aside, I think it's a huge mistake to overlook Maclin's potential this year and beyond. Cooper is no slouch and he should be able to draw coverage away from Maclin. In addition, reports out of Philly have been clear, Ertz's production is expected to go up as he should become more heavily involved in the offense this year.

All you need to do is look at the Chip Kelly offensive scheme and you could speculate that some guys have the potential to break out and stay elite for a number of years. The emphasis is on scoring, and scoring a lot makes elite players for fantasy purposes.

Bradford gets traded to the Vikings and he actually stays healthy, making Patterson the next elite WR.

That's pretty bold. I would never think to attribute a WRs elite status to the play of Bradford. I could see this though, if Bradford leans on Patterson like he did Amendola in 2010. Patterson could probably double Amendola's production if given that many targets. Of course Patterson could probably excel just as much with Matt Cassel under center as Bradford.

DELETED

Since we are talking abt some long shots I'm still intrigued by Joseph Fauria in Detroit even with Pettigrew resigned... I think Detroit would be wise to use him in 3 WR sets split wide opposite of Calvin with Golden Tate in the slot at times... Especially if they start him inside and motion him out that could cause some major matchup issues... I think he at the very least should be able to produce 7 or 8 Redzone TDs...

Of course if they do snag a WR like Watkins or Evans that will change things

Not sure Maclin would crack the top tier even if he scored 350 in PPR this year.

I like the several mentions of HUnter and Ladarius Green.

We are talking about the next elite player and some are saying rookies who never stepped on the NFL field, if that is not a guess without merit, what is?

If the Lions take a WR the front office should be fired by the Fords instantly without hesitation.

Historically, if you have true "elite" talent at RB/WR/TE - and I mean game-changing, build-your-roster-around-it, Hall of Fame talent - it shows up early.

Megatron, Green, Graham, Gronk ... every one of these guys was in the top 5 scorers at their position by their 2nd year in the league. McCoy and Charles by their third year.

I think it's more likely, not less, for a guy like Evans or Charles Johnson to break out as a top-5 fantasy stud than a guy like Maclin or Torrey Smith, on whom we already have 3 years' worth of sample size showing us they're not elite.

With the NFLPA positing that Jimmy Graham should be paid as a WR, I'm going to say Jimmy Graham as the next elite WR.

(And, if the NFLPA *does* get Graham paid as a WR, will he no longer be a TE in FFL?)

I refuse to let go. Let's be bold here. WR - Brian Quick and TE - Luke Willson. Quick may finally put it all together this year (I hope), and Willson just seems like the perfect fit in that offense where he can excel.

Pretty extreme long shots but why not change it up a bit?

Most likely in my mind is Michael Floyd and Ladarius Green.

No, because the Saints will still list him as a TE, and that's what all the hosting sites go off of.

He asked for longshots. Names like Jeffery, Allen, Hopkins, etc. are obvious enough that it didn't deserve a thread.

Nicks is so off the radar he deserves mention..Mike Wallace, Kendall Wright, Cobb, Jefferey,Jernigan(longshot), Stills, Toon, Patterson, Rob't Wood, Rudolph

No mention of Jordan Reed at TE? I know he's got injury concerns, but if we're talking about who could be the next Gronk/Graham, why not start with the guy who, on a per-game basis, just had the best rookie season since Mike Ditka?

OP said outside of the obvious choices. I assume that Reed already being a top 6-7 TE in most rankings, is an obvious choice.

Post draft I think that Eric Ebron's skillset and the offensive passing game that he is in makes the conditions right for potentially elite fantasy production. I would also keep an eye on Davante Adams in GB, although for him to be "elite" as a fantasy WR is a bit more of a stretch given the nature of the talent pool at WR league wide.

My reading of his post was that he wanted WRs outside of the obvious choices, and any TEs at all except for Gronk and Graham.

I finally bit on Williams. Not a lot of options outside of Olsen and Benjamin and there's a chance for him to surpass Ed Dickson (only signed to a 1 year/$800k contract) as the #2 TE.

Brandon Williams: Brandon Williams standing out at OTAs Brandon Williams - TE - CAR - Jun. 21 - 9:04 am et ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton identified second-year TE Brandon Williams as a player that "stood out" at minicamp and OTAs.

A second-year UDFA out of Oregon, Williams played only 28 snaps his rookie year, but Newton believes his role will expand this season. Williams is a physical freak, standing 6'4/250 with sub-4.6 40 wheels. In order to earn playing time with Greg Olsen in two-tight end sets, Williams only has to overtake underwhelming Ed Dickson. 26-year-old Williams is a super-deep sleeper. Jun. 21 - 9:04 am et

I think rudolph could enter that cameron and julius thomas range. Might be a bit of a longshot, but he can really go up and get it.

Elite WR: seems likely Floyd will be in the group next offseason, hoping but doubting percy makes it back up there. If were talking deeper Robert Woods could do some crazy business as they are planning to run a high tempo offense

I agree with Jordan Reed and think he should count. Yes, people consider him an average or maybe slightly above average starting TE, but that is far from the elite category.

A homer long shot would be Adrien Robinson. He's completely raw and was injured all last year. He only caught 29 passes in college, but he's a physical freak and has all the measurables you'd want in an elite TE. 6'4 264lbs, 4.56 40

Mike Wallace is going big this year.

Christian Fauria is going to make Detroit wish they didn't draft Ebron
they also re-signed Pettigrew. doesn't seem like there will be enough balls to go around to the TE spot unless they are going to run a lot of two TE sets ala New England a few years back.

Pettigrew has the worst hands in the league and Fauria is a JAG.
JAG? ...JUST A GUY?....I think given the chance he could be a really good JAG. On film he looks very athletic, has good hands, dominating size. Knock is route running and no blocking...Route running can be taught, blocking meh. Heard Ebron was struggling at minicamp.

I really like these calls. Philly is running a whole different kind of offense that could create some huge fantasy football numbers. I think a lot of the opportunity comes from the offensive scheme. Also, getting a guy to plug into a high powered offense can be big. A guy like Adams could be big in Green Bay if the talent is there and a guy like Cobb or Nelson were to go down with injury. I think Beckham too might have an opportunity. Giants WR have had some pretty good stats over the years.

With Bell and Bush, having just signed Tate, and Calvin hanging around, there are too many receiving threats for any of them other than Calvin to be elite. In time Ebron might be very good, but I'd avoid for the near term except in best ball.

If the Lions thought they had something in Fauria, I highly doubt they draft a TE at pick 10 overall.

Then again its the lions, so who knows what they re thinking

They re-signed Pettigrew in March, so everything they did is a little bizarre. I think the narrative is they thought they could get Watkins or maybe Evans, and Ebron was the failsafe. Given the contract, it's pretty possible they cut Pettigrew after 2015. Fauria is probably irrelevant by then, but who knows. If Fauria can block at 90% of the level Pettigrew can, then he could make Pettigrew irrelevant. I doubt that happens, but it is the opportunity. Of course the Eagles gave Casey some money in FA last year and then drafted Ertz, and basically Casey is a blown contract. Not that bad to pay a TE to do nothing.

Coaches are actually talking going 3 TEs in certain GL situations, so maybe they all get a little playing time.
