How many of people with your same last name were in the civil war? (1 Viewer)

32 union

1 confederate

Not a common name due to it being a misspelling of a foreign name and everyone with the last name can trace their roots to one common ancestor who had 17 children.

Zero

delving further - there were only five people with that last name in the US of A in 1880, all in N.Y.C.

my Italian grandparents got here in 1917/1920, Irish Grandparents 1916/1918.

0 on either side - Mom's side was from England (arrived after WWII - war bride) and Germany (arrived in 1880s).  Dad's side arrived in 1870s and 1880s from Germany and Ireland.

Dad:  401 Union, 68 Confederate

Mother: 0   Not surprising since both of her parents immigrated from Italy in the early 1910s

Father's side:

All - 15,062

Confederate - 3,861

Union - 11,201

Mother's side:

All - 7,897

Confederate - 3,442

Union - 4,455

AFAIK, "Le" was dropped with my first known relative to move to Canada (Acadie) from France in the 1600's.

All Brun 43; Confederate 14, Union 29

Maybe related?

All Lebrun 8; Confederate 1, Union 7

All Le Brun 6; Confederate 3, Union 3

Maternal family - 12,858

Confederate - 5,127

Union - 7,731

Paternal family - 6,182

Confederate - 2,231

Union - 3,951

Per the site:
25 Confederate

The site indicates the 1860 census shows 39 households with the name, all within about 60 miles of Charleston.
When my Great great grandfather enlisted there were 5 others with his name ... brothers and cousins.

Father's Name:

All - 0

Confederate - 0

Union - 0

Mother's Name:

All 52,214

Confederate - 12,894

Union - 39,320

Confederate 26

Moms side

Union 85

Confederate 6

Not surprising since almost everyone with either last name still lives in New England.

Confirmed, zero.

Looks like some WWI and a few more WWII.

Only a handful of folks with my last name to begin with.

Dad's Side:

All: 32

Confederate: 20

Union: 12

Mom's Side:

All: 2548

Confederate: 797

Union: 1751

These results don't surprise me too much given that my two families don't really talk to one another.  They act as if the other doesn't exist.

333/3. The only member of my immediate family in northern Vt to fight in the Civil War was one of the 3, a Copperhead.
