Andrew Yang 2024! (2 Viewers)

I am surprised this guy can’t get more traction against all the old retreads that keep hanging on.
I think he is doing better than polls indicate. I'm convinced the D party is more divided than they care to acknowledge. Hopefully some come around to Yang. Who could actually win 2020

So I'm considered a conspiracy theorist by most here, but he hasn't paid to play either. The applause for yang at the last debate shows where he is at. He leapfrogged several candidates from the last round.

No way 30% of dems back Sleepy Joe. That is the establishment answer.

Most Dems aren’t paying attention yet, so Biden is one of the only names they are familiar with.   Only 1-in-3 of my colleagues at work know who Mayor Pete even is, for example, and nobody in my extended family has heard of him.   None of them have any clue who Yang is.  If I mentioned his name, the reply would probably be a Caddyshack quote.   (“This is my friend Wang......no offense.”)

Leave it to Andrew Yang to turn a political forum about issues concerning Asian American and Pacific Islander communities into something resembling a rock concert.

The businessman-turned-2020 Democratic presidential candidate shared a video of himself crowd surfing through a packed room at the AAPI Democratic Presidential Forum in Costa Mesa, California, on Sunday.

And the Yang Gang went wild.

"He trusts us with his life and we shall trust him with ours! #YangGang," one Twitter user wrote.

"Now this is what I call a Blue Wave," an Andrew Yang fan account added.

He won't be president - but would be a good guy to have a beer with - from an interview in Politico:

Yang's responses:

"Most likely to..."

Joe Biden: "Be the town lifeguard.”

Bernie Sanders: “Lead a commune.”

Elizabeth Warren: "Become a law school professor."

Kamala Harris: “Succeed.”

Pete Buttigieg: "Make someone feel monolingual.”

Andrew Yang: "Be president of the United States!"

I have a feeling that the people who support Yang are also the same people who went crazy for that Gary Johnson guy in 2016 because he basically offered nothing except the ability to smoke all the weed you want.

OMG.  The Biden one is amazing.

His polling numbers look good, but the emails I get from his campaign have ramped up with more worrisome financial statements.

It's a shame because this is the type of Democrat I would vote for. I read his ideas and plans and got excited. Then I looked at the poll numbers and just said Oh well.

How the #### is Biden and Warren leading? This country is a mess.

Biden gets numbers because of the Obama legacy.

Warren gets numbers because she appeals to females/millenials/Ivory tower types.

It's a shame for the country because neither are representing the country, just niche demographics.  The Dems need a national leader, not an niche leader.

I think Yang is doing about as well of a job as an outside can. Every show he goes on he gets great reviews. Rogan, Shapiro and others come out respecting the guy.

I think he has a future. 2020 might not be his time, but I do hope he sticks with it.

It amazes me that he has such well thought out ideas that are rarely attacked for substance, but Americans rally around brand names that offer very little.

Wish we could get Pete, Yang, Warren, Bernie and Biden all to run our country for the next 4 years.  Put them all together, give them the jobs each are best at, and rebuild what Trump has broken.

Warren was looking like the front runner to me after the Biden  :tfp:

But I keep hearing more about Yang.  He might have more energy than Warren and capture more of the younger vote that will come from Bernie supporters.

I think Pete, Yang, Warren, and Bernie could all be put to good use. But I'm really struggling to think of a job Biden would be good at.

Now if Yang can just get rid of his gimmicky/socialistic platform.  Maybe wear a tie, instead of trying to go "tech  bro" on the stage.

Retirement?  Pretty much the only reason why I'd vote for him is because he's not trump.  I like others a lot more.

You guys better get behind Yang cause otherwise we are re-electing Trump. Don't waste time with those hacks like Warren, Biden and the rest or you will sulk in this forum for another 4 years while your arteries harden and you have to go get stents put in.

He looks the part, according to many likely voters.  He can shake hands, smile for pictures, convene meetings but leave the governance to others.

Can you elaborate on which well thought out ideas have resonated with you the most?
I think UBI has a lot of potential as a welfare replacement. It puts money directly into people's hands and allows Americans more freedoms I can see it being very benefitial to everyone.  I'll post directly from his site. https://www.yang2020.com/policies/the-freedom-dividend/

This would enable all Americans to pay their bills, educate themselves, start businesses, be more creative, stay healthy, relocate for work, spend time with their children, take care of loved ones, and have a real stake in the future.

Promoting vocational training in High schools seems like a no-brainer.  Going away from this idea had a horrible impact on families in the first place.  Teach kids better skills in school so they know what they are doing when they get into the real world.  https://www.yang2020.com/policies/promoting-vocational-education/

Increase funding to vocational programs within public schools. Direct the Dept. of Education to provide materials to all public schools about career paths that don’t require a college degree. Prioritize career paths that students express interest in rather than giving blanket advice that college is the right/only option. Begin a public education campaign championing vocational jobs and education, “I Work With My Hands – And It’s Awesome.”

His campaign finance reform of "Democracy Dollars" (No one loves this name) is a good start to move politicians away from mega donors and interest groups.  Give Americans use or lose dollars that can only be donated to candidates running for office.  This helps to ensure the candidates are running with the people's best interests in mind.  https://www.yang2020.com/policies/democracydollars/

Imagine running for office when every American has $100 Democracy Dollars to give to their favorite candidate. Just 10,000 supporters could mean $1 million for your campaign. Once elected, you could act primarily in the interest of the people you represent instead of appeasing wealthy donors and corporations. Calling rich people for money is soul-crushing. We’d all be better off if politicians only needed to worry about representing the people that elected them.

It has been used in Seattle to great effect, and we can take their program national to move towards publicly funded elections.

He has a lot on his platform.  Some of the other ones I think are beneficial to the country include.

https://www.yang2020.com/policies/hold-future-administrations-accountable/

https://www.yang2020.com/policies/student-loan-debt/

https://www.yang2020.com/policies/legalization-of-marijuana/

https://www.yang2020.com/policies/scotustermlimits/

He really has a lot to look through.  I don't agree with everything, but I think he is on the right track overall.

Stick with the first four and dump Biden.  Then you can rebuild what Obama broke too.

Hoping for a good showing tonight.  It's nice to hear that he is picking up a lot of Independents.  Sounds like he is hurting Bernie the most being in the race still.

Showed well IMO.  I think Andrew explaining how his policies will help people with actual examples will resonate with voters.

I'm hoping for the best, but his foreign policy answer wasn't good and I don't think some will be able to overlook his inexperience in that area.

No shot, but he brought an interesting perspective...absolutely destroyed Warren on jobs/automation.

Needs to be more polished on issues that voters actually care about, he almost comes off as a jobs infomercial...that doesn’t resonate with middle America.

Have ya all nominated this guy so you at least can grab some of the independent vote or are ya just gonna trot out another old bag to take another beatdown?

Good showing. I don't think he's ready for the Presidency yet, but I'd like him to stay in the mix, maybe get a place in the next administration and try again in a subsequent Presidential campaign.

To me he is a single topic candidate, that topic is things like the guaranteed income.  I like his voice in this topic and hope he keeps up talking about it.

I think he has a good take on economic concerns in general. I think he sees what's coming better than most of the other candidates, and definitely better than the current President, and isn't afraid to be creative in formulating solutions to the problems we'll have in that area. We need a more realistic approach than just saying "I'll create a bunch of jobs," which has been the standard political "solution" for quite some time.

I’ve said on this show before that I think Bernie Sanders has already won the Democratic nomination and I mean that because so much of the current debate around Medicare for All, around health care — the signature issue within the Democratic primary — is really whether you agree with Bernie Sanders, whether you have a different version than Bernie Sanders or whether you don’t agree with Bernie Sanders.

Last night to me, it seems like Andrew Yang was the major winner of the debate. He has moved the Overton window more than any other candidate in this race, taking an issue which nobody was talking about to the forefront of that stage.

Moving the Overton window to literally debate UBI — Universal Basic Income — versus a a federal jobs guarantee is not something that anybody even two months would have predicted for the Democratic stage. It is an extraordinary remarkable achievement.

Bernie Sanders to his credit has at least been in office for 40 years, pushing these ideas. Andrew Yang a couple of years ago was one of those weird guys at a UBI conference and now he’s brought it forefront of American politics. That shows that there is actually a new model for politics in this country and I’m actually extraordinary excited about it. That the democratization of information that the internet, that the allowance of somebody like Andrew Yang can seize upon an issue that people actually care about — the job loss in this country.

I actually don’t even particularly agree with him on the issue of whether it’s automation or trade policy. However, everyone can look around and now that your malls are closing, that there are kiosks. They can feel like melees and the depression that aches within so much of the middle and working class within our country.
