With the 4th 2 days away, think patriotic music:

The National Anthem

America the Beautiful

God Bless America

Stars and Stripes Forever

Yankee Doodle

My Country Tis of Thee

I’m A Yankee Doodle Dandy

You’re A Grand Old Flag

Battle Hymn of the Republic

This Land is Your Land

God Bless the USA

Which of these do you like? Love? Dislike? Hate?

America The Beautiful and Battle Hymn Of The Republic are probably my two favorites, all things considered.

Pretty much an Ooooooof for most of them.

Never liked America the Beautiful until I heard the Ray Charles version (and years later Keb Mo.)

My favorites are Stars and Stripes, the George M Cohan jingles, and Woody. I do think the Anthem is underrated.

I don’t hate Greenwood the way so many folks do but I don’t like it either.

From your list, I never get tired of "America The Beautiful," "God Bless America" and "Stars And Stripes Forever".

"Battle Hymn" is borderline Goth ... love it to deatb - if "mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord/he is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored/he has lost the fearful lightning of his terrible swift sword/His truth is marching on!" doesn't move you, well, you're ####### comatose - go lay down and let 'em toss the dirt on ya.

Figures we'd dig this tune.

Take it Where You Find It - Van Morrison

American Trilogy - Elvis

America the Beautiful - Ray Charles and Ray Charles only

Flag Decal and Sam Stone - John Prine

I would like Woody more if it wasn't a communist song.

Loathe Greenwood's song. Argh.
Greenwood is th worst. I don't know if we can really call it a Communist song- that is a stretch IMO.

Socialist.

And I think that’s why I like it. The lyrics after the 1st verse shock people who haven’t read them before.
I am not even sure I would call it socialist. It definitely isn't pro-capitlaist but I see it more as a description of a large part of the country during the Great Depresison. It is a response to God Bless America at a time when the country was in terrible shape, people were starving, before forced from their homes, etc. I see it as more anti-propaganda (which certainly is propaganda in itself)- it is the other side of the coin.

Fantastic choices. Yankee Doodle Dandy is fantastic as well- especially if you've seen the movie and can picture James Cagney. (see here)

Love God Bless the USA.  Granted, the lyrics aren't as meaningful/timely as in decades past, but I still feel these lines:

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
