Meat and global warming - (1 Viewer)

To show how confusing all this can be, while you're avoiding/reducing your meat consumption, you should probably also try to stay away from organic products.  While the common assumption is that it's great for the environment, it's starting to look like the opposite is true, and for much the same reason as meat production - inefficient use of land.

If ten million heavy beef eaters stopped eating beef the difference would be huge. But just so we can actually talk numbers, how much beef does a heavy beef eater eat? 1/4 a pound a day? 1/2 pound? 1 pound in uncooked weight?
500g a day is considered a pretty heavy eater.  (10oz)

USDA for being overrun with special interests still recommends people cap out at 200g a day last I checked.  That's less than 1/4 pound.

This also could be misleading.  It could easily be that the pesticides we allowed Organic farmers to use were truly no better for the planet as a whole. That's certainly what Europe is finding out.  Monocultures seem the primary issue in the US for sure.
