As I mentioned previously, the third games are tricky, and the first games up feature two polar opposite situations.

Ukraine/Austria - both teams advance with a point.  And while the draw line is usually close to 2.7/1, this match has it at just over evens.  Here's the thing though, I don't buy that these teams are going to sit back and knock it around for 90 minutes.   They might, sure, but I think if this game gets 1 goal, it's going to get at least a second.  Ukraine have a hungry attack with Yaremchuk, Yarmalenko and Malinovsky.  They've been plenty potent thus far.  Austria on the other hand is probably still looking for their best lineup.  Arnautovic is back from suspension and it appears he will be starting and he is their most potent striker.  I'm still throughly confused however when I see Alaba as their last player in the back, and maybe, just maybe he'll be pushed forward today.  Either way, with Arnautovic back, I think you will see a more favored lineup here, and Sabitzer can slot back to attacking mf.  One other thing is both teams have outstanding set piece takers (Malinovsky's missed pk notwithstanding) so any free kick in a dangerous position could easily be a goal.  I think the goal market is set too low as a draw is the "expected result" so we're getting a bargain here.

Other early game has The Netherlands who has clinched a spot in the next round and N. Macedonia who have secured their return flights already as they are out.  The Dutch have looked pretty terrific in the attack and I would expect no less in this one.  They swarm forward and in these tournaments you always get a few players that kind of shine from unexpected places.  Locatelli has probably seen his transfer market value double for Italy.  And Dumfries may well find himself a target of top European teams who will try to pluck him off of PSV after this one as he's been outstanding.  With no pressure on Holland to advance, you may well see a heavy rotation of players in this one (similar to Italy yesterday), but that does not necessarily mean a lack of goals as you may see the likes of Gravenberch and Luuk DeJong get starts and don't think they'll be looking to pad their passing stats.  Also, Quincey Promes is a forgotten player here but he was great at Ajax - he moved to Russia last year and I haven't seen him play since, but he was always a dangerous attacker.  What I'm trying to say here is Holland is going to score.  And from what I have seen of N. Macedonia they are not wanton to sit back and defend.  This will be their last moment on the big stage and I'm certain they'll want to do themselves proud.  I have a feeling this will be the most open game of the four today so again, I'm going to back goals.

1st - France 5, Germany 2, Portugal 2, Hungary 0
2nd - France 3, Germany 3, Portugal 2, Hungary 1
3rd - Portugal 4, Germany 2, Hungary 2, France 1
4th - Hungary 6, Germany 2, Portugal 1, France 0
In one scenario France and Hungary end up equal on points and I have France in 2nd, Hungary in 3rd based upon current goal differentials.  That scenario happens if Portugal beats France, and Hungary beats Germany. The goal diff could swap them, but it's a 4 goal swing.

If Germany beats Hungary, they are 1st if Portugal beats or draws with France. France wins, Germany is 2nd.
If Hungary beats Germany, they are third if France beats Portugal.  A Portugal win or a draw and Germany is 4th and out.
If Germany and Hungary draw, Germany finishes 2nd, if France beats Portugal or a draw.  A Portugal win, and Germany is 3rd.

If Germany finish 1st, they get the 3rd place team from A,B or C.  Switzerland, Russia, Finland, Denmark, Ukraine, Austria
If Germany finish 2nd, they get England or Czechia

Damn.  I remember watching him at Dortmund when Pulisic first started breaking into the squad.  I was convinced he was the next big thing in the sport.  Had talent for days.  10 goals and 21 assists as an 18/19 year old in the Bundesliga.  Injuries suck.  

 
Soccer gambling n00b question:  I just bet OVER 1 1/4 goals in the 2nd half of Ukraine/Austria.  What is a quarter of a point?  Why not use 1/2?  :confused:

if current result hold a draw will do it for Finland.  (A draw would do for Russia if Finland doesn't win).  Russia in deep doo doo with a loss regardless.

I think Russia technically stay alive with a loss, Finland loss provided Russia loses by exactly 1 and scores at least 1 goal.  But they would still be a 3rd place team with 3 points and -3 GD so all  but dead.

What am I trying to say here is let's go Denmark :excited:

okay Russia can also get 3rd with a 1-0 loss but only if Finland gets thrashed.

For a 0-point team Denmark in unexpectedly decent shape all things considered.

if you look on uefa.com at Group B, right now they show Russia and Finland equal on points, but Russia (with a goal diff of -2) ahead of Finland (with a goal diff of 0) because Russia beat Finland head to head.

First tie break settles nothing as Germany, France, and Portugal would all be tied in the group with six points and three points each in games played against each other. It then goes to differential on games played against each other.

France already has 4 points, there can't be a three way tie at 6 points.
If France wins, 7 and Portugal at 3.  If Portugal wins, 6 and France at 4.  If the draw, France at 5 and Portugal at 4.

And Sweden to win while Slovakia and Spain don't draw.

England essentially through but Southgate doesn’t need to worry about anything but getting the side playing a lot better (assuming they can).  Draw or loss gives them group E runner up in round of 16.  A win and they get the reward of group F runner up.  Oof.

It's a funky soccer handicap...if they score 2 or more you win, 0 you lose.  You can't push obviously, but if they scored 1 you'd get half your bet back.  As opposed to the over 1.5 where you'd lose all of your bet if they scored 1.
