Moyes out!

Sunderland carved apart for second goal vs the championship side.

Gooch ok... but doesnt quite seem at this level. Tbh, most of sunderland dont.
Maybe Big Sam can comeback in April/May & save their season yet again, after he gets the sack from England.

Fun second half.  Poor Guzan is working his ### off.

Gooch has a great motor, but doesn't seem like he's got the skills to take many guys on 1v1.

David Nugent checks in.  Fun fact, he is - I believe - the last player to play for the England national team who was playing in England but outside of the first division, when he was capped while playing for Preston in 2007.  He made a substitute appearance and scored a goal in what would be his only England cap.  You know who else achieved the 1 sub/1 goal feat?  The fox in the box himself, Franny Jeffers.

The more you know

agree.

sunderland willed themselves back into the game with a lot of hustle and van arnholdt(?) down the left, showing EPL class and pairing well with Pienar (who understandbly was a little rusty). looks like they collectively burned themselves out just getting the goal, and had nothing left for the last 15 minutes.

o'shea got hurt, which forced moyes to shuffle the deck a bit. gooch ended up playing DM instead of on the left. decision making looked too slow for the EPL- took too long to get the ball off his foot even with some clear choices in front of him. got caught up in some argie-bargie too towards the end. also looked like he took a knock that slowed him down a lot- seemed to be gimpy out there for the last 10 or so.

oh- and guzan had an amazing save, and then a couple of shot blocks that spilled out right in front of goal (including sunderland's goal).

I didn't see the whole game, but Gooch had a beautiful early cross that Janusaz should have been more alert to early in the game.  One of these days, before I die, I hope we'll be so spoiled for choice that we don't have to choose between workrate, slick dribbling, quality crosses, etc. from our flank players.  This is not that day, so I want to see some more of young master Gooch (even if he shares a last name with a particularly odious ex-girlfriend of mine).

Grizi not available today due to yellow card accumulation from last season. Gamiero and Carrssco starting with Gaitán on the bench.

Atleti gave up a 95th minute equalizer. Not an awesome start to the season. I'm not sure why Gaitán didn't start. They shouldn't need both Gabi and Tiago in there against a newly promoted side, especially at home.

I feel like this is my fault.

I personally thought ManU looked very shaky on defense and gave up loads of space to Southampton.

Its early days, but Fellaini and Pogba in the middle isnt all that great from a defensive standpoint.  Once they play a team with a shred of offensive ability it will be interesting.

But you honestly couldn't have asked for a better opening script for ManU.  Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull City may end up being 3 of the bottom 5 offenses this year, then ManU gets 2 weeks before their first real test against Man City.
And thats my problem with the Fro in there.  He has played fine and done whats asked but there are people that offer that same play plus more that should be in there.  Schneiderlin can offer all that Fellaini can, plus adds better speed/defense/passing and less fouls.  Their defense has been a bit shaky but their speed allows for a lot of ability to recover.  I am not sure if Smalling will improve this over Blind but I think so.  Hull then the international break then City.

Although I have to admit, if you are lining up a shot on a free kick and you see a wall of 6'2 Bailley, 6'4 Fellaini, 6'3 Zlatan, 6'4 Smalling you will think twice about trying to go up and over. And eta 6'3 Pogba can be in the wall too....

but... the game was Friday...   ...

Sorry, was posting during the game Friday but not the rest of the weekend, so I was responding.  Thanks though.
honestly... I have no idea where we're supposed to post anything anymore.

you're talking about the game, so maybe it goes here? and the soccer thread is more about general stuff and non-specific-game related things? eg: like what a dumpster fire liverpool is.

Leganes win their first ever La Liga game; 1-0 @ Celta Vigo...the subsequent celebrations were pretty sweet to see.

Las Palma's is currently beating Valencia 3-2 in the 36th, @ Valencia...

Watch out, Eibar!

I believe you are allowed to post what a dumpster fire Liverpool is in any thread, soccer or not.

Boys, boys...all this talk of dumpster fires, & multiplethreads...take it to the Roma-Udinese thread,  where it all belongs!

Porto @ Roma today, in the 2nd leg of the UCL play-in tie.  Immense implications for Roma, as 30 mil € are at stake. A Roma loss would probably equate to losing Manolas and/or Nainggolan next summer...

keep it in the serie b thread please.

Is this where we talk about the lower level teams starting the Carling Cup run today?  Rd 2, enter Chelsea, Liverpool....

own goals still count as away goals, right?

P.S. Roma is going to whoop 'em at home.

Re: P.S.- I hope so, am just wary that Roma play for a 0-0 tie at home.  They did so against ManCity last yr, & paid for it.  The big difference this year is that Spaletti is on the bench, & not Garcia...

Daje Roma...?...!!

Klopp not messing around today

@JamesPearceEcho: Liverpool line up tonight: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Milner, Henderson, Can, Lallana, Firmino, Mane, Origi. #LFC

If that squad can have 81% possession against Burnley, I fully expect 95.6% possession against powerhouse Burton Albion.
