✍ Knowshon Moreno to season ending IR. (1 Viewer)

Lamar Miller is looking like a steal at his ADP compared to Knowshon. Ridiculous to just come off a freshly signed contract and into OTA's with a spare tire. Miller is the better back and is more familiar with the system.

Wasn't it just last year at this time that we had reports that Eddy Lacy was over weight with that picture of his belly going around. Every one was saying Franklin is the better back in and in great shape.

My guess is Moreno will be getting the bigger part of the split come September.

It was also August when Moreno was listed as 3rd on the depth chart yet he finished the season RB5, so I wouldn't put too much stock in this. But it is annoying because I was looking forward to snagging Miller in the 11th round in a lot of leagues this year. Would hate to see him just up to the 7th or 8th round.

Yeah, this is turning out to be "ladies choice" (i.e. you don't know the outcome). It is disconcerting, but do remember, Moreno showed signs towards the end of 2012, so it is either a laziness thing that he corrects (not saying that is the solid approach to take) or he just takes a while to acclimate.

I realize history doesn't always repeat itself, but Moreno is accustomed to jumping into the lead role on short notice. I didn't know for sure that he was Denver's RB1 last year until the NBC telecast of the opener against Baltimore.

That said, Moreno would be wise to get his ### in shape pronto. The Miami coaching staff isn't going to care about his 2013 stats when games start.

Doesn't look good at this point. He's out of shape and Moller is apparently looking good. A lot can change in 4 months though.

On a side note, is anyone else tired of Lammey's relentless Moreno bashing on the Audible? We get it, you don't think he's a talented back, he benefited last season from a perfect situation but he's still a no talent hack etc...

No Lammey is getting a bit personal, making off hand remarks about an alcohol issue, his weight etc. it's not remotely entertaining, give it a rest. Even Moreno as an average talent first round pick, with one successful NFL season under his belt has achieved more that armchair critic/know it all Lammey ever will.

its funny how Lammy talked crap about Moreno all last off season and he finished RB5, while he hyped up RBs the didnt even make the team. and now watch moreno make him look like a fool again

Not surprising. He's been pretty unprofessional about the Denver RB situation since McGahee went down a couple years ago.

He's probably still aggravated that he talked up Hillman, who proceeded to literally fumble away his chance to get touches in that Broncos offense. He still gives a lot of good info about the Broncos throughout the summer, but I don't trust him when it comes to RB talk anymore.

i think you have to look at what MIA did this offseason:

  • Brought in Lazor - possible up tempo offense, more plays, lots of running
  • Tried to improve the line
  • Drafted Landry
  • Brought in Moreno
Didn't it always seem like people were always unhappy with Moreno in Denver? And yet there he would be, blocking, catching, just doing his job. I think he will show up when game time arrives.

A lot of how he will do depends on the Miami line and Lazor's system, remains to be seen, but you get players at value by taking chances.

Especially funny when juxtaposed with the "I don't care what Johnny Manziel does off the field spiel."

Guys, if Moreno is so great why would no one - including the Broncos - want to give him more than a one year, $3M deal?

Even Shonn Greene got better than that.

Face it, he's JAG and easily replaced. So he ended up RB5 last year, most of the starting RB's in the league would have done the same in that offense.

Former first round pick. Has only played 16 games twice in 5 years but had over 1000 yards in both. He's maybe a little better than a compiler but he has done far more than Thomas or MIller has in their careers. If he's healthy I think he starts and surprises as a decent RB2

No one is saying he's great, I was just commenting that Lammey's criticism of Moreno is a bit over the top and unnecessary. But I guess I find Lammey pretty unbearable most of the time anyway.

It sounds to me like you're a Moreno owner upset about anything negative being said about him. If you don't like talk like this then listening in June probably isn't for you.

I'm not a Moreno owner, and I find Lammey is quite annoying on this subject.

Since I don't own Moreno in any league, I can assure you that these issues are mutually exclusive.

Rotoworld:

According to the Miami Herald, Knowshon Moreno "appears to have lost some weight" after reporting to OTAs out of shape.
Coach Joe Philbin "insisted he's pleased with (Moreno)," though the Herald states Lamar Miller "remains clearly ahead" of Moreno "for the starting running back job." Still just 23 years old, Miller obviously offers the highest ceiling in Miami's backfield. Moreno is a steadier player at this point in their careers, but will not beat out Miller if the light has truly flipped on.

I sense this is all coach-speak: Lamar is ahead of Moreno who is the more talented runner who is weaker in pass protection who has lost/found/eaten weightlessness in the orbit of Neptune.

All this pointless nonsense is to get the two to compete.

Lamar needs incentive, having not beaten out Thomas (or maybe it was coach BS that kept them side-by-each)

Knowshon needs incentive because he's not in Kansas/Denver any more. Fresh start, fresh incentive.

These are guys that need incentive and it's one of those situations where the nature of the split will likely not be known for months. Knowshon has the cache of being the hired gun, Lamar knows the system and has youth and speed. Knowshon, when he wants to, can and will play with great determination and heart...he just doesn't mean to very often, or often enough.

In other fantasy circumstances, I would love the conjecture. For some reason, this one is so close and so speculative that it's frustrating to even hear it. I don't even think pre-season games will be telling. Wake me up in Week One.

If the one year 'show me' contract is not sufficient incentive for Knowshon, then as a GM I am not sure I would be that interested in him (speaking of 2015 and beyond)

Knowshon Moreno - RB - Dolphins
A source tells the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Knowshon Moreno has been battling a "medical issue" during OTAs and minicamp.
Moreno admitted to being out of shape during OTAs a couple weeks ago and has participated sparingly in this week's minicamp. The Sun-Sentinel's source wouldn't reveal the exact injury, but says the ex-Bronco has been "hindered by it for a couple weeks." Keep in mind this paper has an incredibly poor track record when it comes to reporting accuracy, but we found it notable nonetheless. Whether Moreno is injured or not, Lamar Miller's neck is out in front of this battle.

Not shocking. Not only was last year Moreno's first trip into relevance it was also his first staying healthy. Glad I bought and sold on Moreno quickly.

Rotoworld:

According to the Palm Beach Post, Knowshon Moreno is "mostly hanging out on the sidelines and being timed while he runs" at Dolphins minicamp.
The team hasn't made much of it, but it's certainly curious Moreno has now been yanked out of practice while the likes of Mike Gillislee and Orleans Darkwa get reps. One early-Thursday report stated Moreno is battling a "medical issue." Reports during OTAs were that Moreno reported overweight and out of shape.

"obesity" is technically considered a medical issue these days, right?

Rotoworld take:

Knowshon Moreno - RB - Dolphins

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk the "medical issue" holding Knowshon Moreno out of spring practices is a knee injury, and Moreno "may need arthroscopic surgery."

PFT later states it's "nothing significant," but undergoing any kind of knee surgery with training camp approaching when you're in a position battle is certainly significant. PFT does state the injury is not to the same knee in which Moreno tore his ACL in 2011, though that could be taken as a negative as he now has flags on both knees. It's entirely possible the Dolphins bought damaged goods here. Good thing they didn't end up paying much ($1.25 million guaranteed).

I suspect now might be a good time to buy low on Knowshon. Between news of him showing up for OTAs out of shape, and now this, some owners may be getting nervous. There is no indication at this point that the knee is anything to be especially concerned about.

@JasonPhilCole Talked to a source who has seen Knowshon Moreno's knee. Said it's "bad." Prob will play, but the issue is how long.

Moreno will never be fantasy worthy again and may get cut in camp.

Seems like now is a good time to sell Miller, especially if you missed selling him last year when his perceived value spiked.

It's curious that a veteran player with a knee injury sits out of OTA's ?

Funny I always thought that was common practice

I plan on rotating him into my starting lineup and winning instead.
Your plan is to win with Lamar Miller as your starting RB ?

I hope you have a plan B
That is plan B.

Plan A is G. Bernard and L Bell. But to trade him away is a fools move.
Kinda depends on what you get in return. I'll trade Miller in a heartbeat if I find an owner who values him as a starting FF RB.

Not at all ... you have 2 good RBs.

I'd be willing to bet that "IF" healthy Moreno will be the starting RB for the same reason he was last year... he is great at protecting the QB.

Last year it was to protect the fragile franchise vet ... this year the 8th pick, future of the franchise.

The fool's move was not selling high during the ridiculous hype storm last year, actually.

Really! I got 1.2 for him last year.

Knowshon Moreno - RB - Dolphins

Knowshon Moreno will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week, and is expected to miss 4-5 weeks.

Moreno should be ready for Week 1, but is likely to open training camp on the active/PUP list, and be held out of practice until his knee is fully recovered and he's in shape. Moreno reported to OTAs overweight. The knee scope won't help his conditioning woes, putting Moreno on the shelf for at least the next month. He'll probably end up doing a lot of stationary-bike riding in August. Lamar Miller is the heavy favorite to start at tailback for Miami on Opening Day.
