The Broncos had 10 mil before the Sanders signing. So, I'm going to go with about $5 mil, but they have some players that can be cut (Dressen and Tamme) to get about another $5 mil.I'm not sure what the cap situation in Denver looks like and as always money plays a role in these decisions. Elway has been very busy on the defensive side of the ball and the market has not been stellar for the free agent market.
I think Denver is willing to lose Moreno in free agency if it comes to that, but maybe they can get him on the cheap.
Miami would be a a place that has to be looking at him. Oakland signed McFadden. I can see most teams addressing their running back needs in the draft instead of free agency. The problem could be what role would he have in the places interested in him. Colts could take a look with 2 of their backs with injury concerns.
Denver or Miami is where I think he ends up.
Does anyone know Denver's current Cap situation? I guess we could compare Moreno's contract to Ben Tate's contract numbers.
So they can afford to resign Knowshown if they want to...The Broncos had 10 mil before the Sanders signing. You don't need a lot of money to sign draft classes. I don't know the exact formula but all the money they sign rookies for doesn't go against the cap number. It is weird and I don't fully understand it.Right now, they prob need that money to sign their 2014 draft class.

NYJ as passing down back and tandem back with Ivory. If not Denver, where would be a good landing spot for him?
This all makes sense. Where ever he goes at this point he is going to be part of a RBBC. I think he makes most sense in NYJ--replacing Powell in the third down and passing role.NYJ as passing down back and tandem back with Ivory. If not Denver, where would be a good landing spot for him?
Miami
Maybe St. Louis in a similar role to what I stated for the Jets.
Oakland - DMC hasn't stayed healthy.
That's what surprises me as well. In today's pass-friendly offense, you'd think that a guy who is widely recognized as a strong pass blocker would gather some interest. And he's a pretty decent receiver and runner to boot.Granted he played in the Highest Scoring Offense of all time but he was the Running Back who did most of the pass blocking for Peyton; you'd think that alone would garner interest.
I don't know...I'm not that surprised. He's not very good, he was just the best amongst a group of flawed, bad RBs. They were looking for someone that was stable and he was it. The numbers are meaningless because every knows that anyone that could hold onto the ball would be successful behind that historical offense.I have not heard a single press release which is really odd for a guy who went for 1,500 yards and 11 Touchdowns last season. Granted he played in the Highest Scoring Offense of all time but he was the Running Back who did most of the pass blocking for Peyton; you'd think that alone would garner interest.
I haven't heard him even get a visit yet Rashad Jennings, Toby Gerhart, and Ben Tate were all scooped up? Something doesn't make sense here, you've got to think there's a deal with Denver in the works; no way nobody wanted to bring this guy in. I mean, but I don't understand how Denver would shell out five-million a year for Sanders who never even visited them and not have something setup for Moreno.
I feel like Moreno wants to stay in Denver but has very little leverage from a financial standpoint. I get that you've got Montee Ball but how often do we see Running Backs drop like flies in the NFL? Ronnie Hillman is an afterthought; I do think CJ Anderson has talent but Moreno is the best fit of all the backs for this Offense.
I disagree with part of your statement. But for those of us that have Ball and Moreno, we need Moreno anywhere else than back in Denver.
I don't know...if Ball fumbles a few times do we know that Moreno wouldn't be front and center? He was a complete after thought a year ago and he became a fantasy stud. If he's in the mix I don't know how you can discount him.I disagree with part of your statement. But for those of us that have Ball and Moreno, we need Moreno anywhere else than back in Denver.
As the way it looks now, Moreno won't be the workhorse for anyone - so I'd rather see him split in Denver than split somewhere else.
That's not exactly true. There are places that come opening day he could have the requisite touches needed. As the way it looks now, Moreno won't be the workhorse for anyone
Disagree. PPR, position lifespan, rotating backfields, revised defensive rules and passing for 5K yards have dropped the RB at/below the new breed of TEs.2014 is a strange time. In many FF leagues RB is still king and stud RB are huge but in the NFL today the RB position is viewed as easily replaceable and they just don't carry the value that they used to in the NFL.
I don't think I am. I am a big Moreno fan - but the silence the last week speaks volumes. He still has a chance to lead in Denver, but right now it looks like (at best) if he goes back there he is splitting. Again, I am good with that.I don't know...if Ball fumbles a few times do we know that Moreno wouldn't be front and center? He was a complete after thought a year ago and he became a fantasy stud. Knowshon Moreno - RB - Broncos
Broncos GM John Elway said there's "no question we have to be better in the run game."
It suggests that Elway was not happy with the performance of free agent Knowshon Moreno, who averaged 4.30 YPC last season while facing extremely run-friendly defensive fronts. We haven't heard a single peep of interest around the league regarding Moreno and ESPN's Jeff Legwold says the Broncos "haven't made much of a move" to bring him back.

Free agent Knowshon Moreno will visit the Dolphins on Friday.
It's Moreno's first-known visit of free agency, and likely a sign that his price is coming down. It's also sign that the Dolphins won't be content to enter 2014 with same 1-2 "punch" of Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas. Despite his chilly market and limited production without Peyton Manning under center, Moreno would be the favorite to start in Miami.

Actually, RBs hold up longer today than ever because of improvements in ACL surgery. It used to be that a guy had a knee injury and his career was over--not so anymore. I think what has changed is that the depth of quality is deeper and teams see that they can plug in a third or fourth round pick or even an unsigned FA rookie and often get comparable production. The position has diversified too--so that teams have a pass specialist and a short yardage specialist and not too many players are used on every down anymore. This has devalued the position.I think it might speak more to the devaluing that has occurred with RBs. Teams just don't need to sign anyone to a contract that might hurt the team in any way. Be it money or potential cap hit down the road. I think this has caused teams to decrease it's investment in one RB. Instead they are diversifying into RBBCs except when they know they have a cowbell... ADP, Charles, McCoy. Though even there we are one injury or concussion away from that changing. RBs just don't hold up in today's NFL so why invest anything in them. Then at the same time the league favors protecting QBs and calling pass interference all the time. It's a passing league now.
All this means RB free agents are not going to get the $ they think they will. There's just no market for any if them really.
you don't think they offered him anything?????tuck that tail inbetween your legs and go back
I don't think Denver wants him back, they are wanting to move forward with ball, cj and hillman
RBs return from ACL tears faster but are they getting more of them then in the olden days? I don't know but seems like, yes without having any actual evidence or data to back that up. I think the game is more dangerous now for RBs vs 15 years ago. You have people like Clowney who are built like a mountain and run like a cheetah. It's crazy the kind of force that they can generate.Regardless, RB seems to be going the way of the FB.Actually, RBs hold up longer today than ever because of improvements in ACL surgery. Regarding running back Knowshon Moreno --- who visited the Dolphins on Friday --- Denver coach John Fox said Moreno can return to the Broncos if he wishes, and we hear rumblings another team (besides Miami) also has him on their radar. The Dolphins remain interested but only at a price with which they’re comfortable. They remain in contact with his agent.
Moreno, who liked his visit to Miami, wasn't done considering his options as of late Monday night. One person with knowledge of the situation said it’s a toss-up whether he signs here and it could go either way at this point.
Maurice Jones-Drew remains an option, but the Dolphins haven’t yet been motivated to bring him in for a visit. Philbin declined to discuss Jones-Drew but left the door open on Moreno.

This has become more and more clear as free agency has progressed. The Dolphins are the only team to have shown interest in Moreno to this point, and he left his Miami visit without a deal. Moreno stated publicly in February that his preference is to re-sign with Denver. As other NFL teams do not envision Moreno as a starting-caliber talent, the Broncos remain his ideal landing spot. He'd get another chance to hold off 2013 second-round pick Montee Ball for carries.
That seems to be the prevailing sentiment around the league/message boards/etc. There's only one tiny problem with it. Denver is the proto-type of the new theory of how football is evolving. Seattle is the old way. And Seattle completely dominated Denver in the Super Bowl.Oh i get it... I do agree with your point and the number of cowbells continues to dwindle each year... Puts a larger onus on finding guys who can be productive with fewer touches out of the backfield. I believe (for the most part) the days of 1 RB averaging 25 touches a game are almost over. Some may average 18 - 22 touches but even those rare RBs are dinosaurs in this evolving passing league.
Depends on how much money Miami gave him, but if it's a cheap deal, I think it's likely they regret it also. Ball is probably a better runner, but the Broncos will miss Moreno as a blocker and a WR.I agree.purestrength said:Broncos will be sorry they let Knowshon go.
