Interesting to have a '6'3' 330lb DE. Freaking massive.3C said:Cam Thomas was signed more for DE,
Was thinking the same thing but Red Bryant formerly of the Seahawks is essentially the same size. In this pic Bryant is the DE lined up on the weak side. http://cdn1.sbnation.com/assets/3314559/MuthHawks-4.jpgInteresting to have a '6'3' 330lb RDE. I dont exactly see the fit in the 3-4 alignment. He is is so "squat".
This would be a nice addition and make me feel a bit better about our linebacking corps.hmmm

Saw Arthur Moats walking thru @Steelers facility just now w/ a big smile on his face. Guessing he signed a contract.
According to everything I have seen, he has already signed. This would be a nice addition and make me feel a bit better about our linebacking corps.hmmm

Just makes way more sense. Most time you really need those backup LBs able to play on teams. Harrison, frankly, would never be able to do that at this stage of his career. Moats gives them that, plus being able to backup multiple spots, for the same price.3C said:Now it's official. One year at vet min which means Harrison is out of the picture.

Great addition for kick coverages. Very good backup for both inside and outside linebacker. Could start if needed. Obviously wouldn't start over 3 of the 4 starting LB's and hopefully the 4th (still holding out hope on Spence) will make big strides this year.Know nothing about this Moats guy but if everyone else likes him, why not![]()
This is a great haul. Top pick amongst compensatory picks. The only unfortunate thing is the Ravens are the only team that got a better package of picks than us. On the plus side we're getting a pick for a retired Mendenhall.Memphis Foundry said:Compensatory picks announced:

The Rams are exactly 1.5 games worse than the Steelers over the last 2 years, and they play in a division that has a .645 winning percentage over those two years, while the Steelers have played in a division that has a .500 winning percentage over those 2 years. One could make the argument that St. Louis is the better team right now, but even if you disagree with that, it's ludicrous to suggest that they are substantially inferior to the Steelers.Of those three, I hope they pick him 3rd.If you were Colbert and Anthony Barr somehow fell to 15 would you take him? Say Gilbert, Evans and Barr are there.
He's one of the official visits to the Steelers.
Don't see this. Would you let Worilds walk after this season?Of those three, I hope they pick him 3rd.If you were Colbert and Anthony Barr somehow fell to 15 would you take him? Say Gilbert, Evans and Barr are there.

I read his post as saying with only those 3 options, he is last (3rd).Don't see this. Would you let Worilds walk after this season?Of those three, I hope they pick him 3rd.If you were Colbert and Anthony Barr somehow fell to 15 would you take him? Say Gilbert, Evans and Barr are there.

Same way I read it. Barr is BPA of the 3 but doesn't fit a need...maybe. Evans and Gilbert are a much higher need....but. What if Jones is a bust? What if Worilds can't stay healthy? What if Barr then goes to the Ravens and he puts up multiple double digit sack years? A lot of what ifs but too many times I've seen posts where someone laments a "wasted" pick several years later.I read his post as saying with only those 3 options, he is last (3rd).Don't see this. Okay, a changeup (but would like others opinions on the first scenario). What if Dennard, Gilbert and Evans are gone, and Barr is there? It's Barr or guys like Ebron, Nix, Clinton-Dix or Beckham Jr. Barr still not a position of need but seemingly much better BPA.
That's more a future hindsight thing. But they would have to have already determined that Jones is a bust.Same way I read it. Barr is BPA of the 3 but doesn't fit a need...maybe. You dont draft BPA in a vacuum. Never. That's more a future hindsight thing. But they would have to have already determined that Jones is a bust.Same way I read it. If they're really going to draft BPA and Barr is the BPA, should they take him? Is he better than Evans and if so do they take him? I think he's better than any of the players in the second scenario.

If the Steelers want to sign free-agent halfbacks LeGarrette Blount or Maurice Jones-Drew, they may have to create more salary-cap room to do so. As of Wednesday, the Steelers’ salary-cap room had dipped to $1,051,934, about half of what it was a day earlier. Those are figures reported by the NFL Players Association after the official signings Tuesday of two other free agents, wide receiver Lance Moore and linebacker Arthur Moats.
Blount, who played in 2013 for the New England Patriots, is scheduled to visit with coach Mike Tomlin and others tonight and Friday in Pittsburgh. He ran for 772 yards, seven touchdowns and a 5-yard average per carry with the Patriots. He played his first three NFL seasons with Tampa Bay. Blount took a pay cut last year with the Patriots after they acquired him in a trade. He was supposed to make $1.75 million in Tampa Bay but agreed to reduce that to $680,000 to play one year in New England, then become a free agent. The Patriots and Baltimore Ravens also are reportedly interested in him, and he is expected to earn more than what he did last season.
Tomlin expressed optimism at the NFL meetings this week in Orlando, Fla., that the Steelers would sign a veteran running back. Jones-Drew visited the Steelers last week and remains a free agent. Whoever they sign will back up Le’Veon Bell.
The Steelers could clear as much as $3.8 million more in salary-cap room if they restructure the contract of linebacker Lawrence Timmons, whose 2014 salary is $6,750,000 and is signed through 2016. According to the NFLPA, the Steelers have the least amount of salary-cap room of any NFL team and their lowest since the NFL calendar year began March 11. Next lowest is Detroit with almost $2 million. The Cleveland Browns have the most room with more than $31 million, the New York Jets have more than $28 million and the Cincinnati Bengals are third with more than $26 million.

RB Maurice Jones-Drew scheduled to fly to Oakland tonight to visit Raiders Fri. One source said there's "a good chance" Oakland signs MJD.
I am okay with this. The jury is still out on how much gas MJD has left in the tank and $3.5 million seems like an awful lot to find out.@AdamSchefter12 mins

May not have to. He played last year for less than $700k. I realize his TB contract was much higher but that was an overinflated contract. He might have been given the "take less or we'll release you" option. Doesn't seem like he's highly sought after. I think he takes $800-900K and signs today, pending a physical. If they offer him more than $1M I'd be shocked.Legarette Blount visits the Steelers today, my expectation is that he is signed at some point and that Lawrence Timmons gets a contract restructure to make more room.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see. He's just not going to command more than $1M/yr. He's not a hot commodity and none of the 3 have a lot of cash to throw his way, though the Pats and Ravens do have more available. The Pats certainly aren't going to pay him much. The Ravens are looking for a backup qb so that will eat up some of their cap if they sign one. This is both inaccurate and unrealistic.May not have to. He played last year for less than $700k. Blount took a significant pay cut last year to play with NE, in order to get to show what he can do, then he had some huge games at the end of last year, showing that he has NFL value.
The Ravens, Steelers and Pats are all said to by vying for his services.
The Pats were expected to offer him, at best a 2-year, $2M contract.
He will be a backup on all 3 teams, and the Steelers have a young RB who they've shown is "their guy." In Baltimore, they've got a RB who is facing legal issues, has seriously declined the last 2 years, while in NE, they've shown very little patience with Ridley & his fumbling.
The expectation that he will sign for barely more than the minimum salary ($730K for a 5th year player) seems doubtful, especially signing such an insignificant contract within 1 day, when he could likely get, at worst, the same type of contract with a better team (the Pats) where he might have the ability to outright win the job, rather than having to be injury insurance.
Someone in the vein of D. McCluster or Sproles would be a nice add.Nice "backup" and they'll also try to snag a rb on day 3.
