Man I have never seen this level of dysfunction. Was it Jason Cole a bunch of you guys don't like? Because B/R just had a report saying Tomlin part of disciplinary issues and may lead to his firing. Even when things were bad with Cowher, I don't remember this amount of animosity. How has Colbert escaped heat? He built this roster did he not? Ignored the OLine and secondary for years and paid that waste of space Lamarr Woodley when the cap room could have gone elsewhere.

Edit: Just watched the video, bunch of hearsay. Creating news off the early season struggles. Ignore, nothing new.

I don't think Colbert is escaping criticism here. I give you the 2008 and 2009 drafts:

1 (23): Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois

2 (53): Limas Sweed, WR, Texas

3 (88): Bruce Davis, OLB, UCLA

4 (130): Tony Hills, OT, Texas

5 (156): Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon

6 (188): Mike Humpal, LB, Iowa

6 (194): Ryan Mundy, FS, West Virginia

1 (32) Evander "Ziggy" Hood DE/DT Missouri 3 (79) Kraig Urbik OG Wisconsin 3 (84) Mike Wallace WR Mississippi 3 (96) Keenen Lewis CB Oregon State 5 (168) Joe Burnett CB Central Florida 5 (169) Frank Summers RB/FB UNLV 6 (205) Ra'Shon Harris DE Oregon 7 (226) A.Q. Shipley C Penn State 7 (241) David Johnson TE Out of those 2 drafts we got Mendenhall who did okay for a while, Ryan Mundy who was pretty good, Ziggy who underwhlemed, Wallace we all know but now he's gone, ditto with Lewis and David Johnson is the only guy still with the team. All the others were basically wasted picks. Hard to rebuild that way.

This is pretty depressing.

Already burned two fifths again. Landry Jones has looked bad from last year and Dri Archer has become a more baffling pick given their use of him if he is healthy as assumed.

Bruce Arians is 23-10 since Mike Tomlin claimed he "retired." Tomlin was 60-28 with Arians as his coordinator, 19-19 since Arians "retired."
That 60-28 and 19-19 is somewhat deceiving since their defense went from being amazing to meh. It wasn't all because of the offense that we did so well while Arians was there. I remember tons of people that were happy when Arians left and only now that he's done really well coaching in 2 other places are people praising him again.

"rumor" is Haley wasn't a Tomlin choice but rather was pushed down by the Rooney's. Wouldn't be a shock considering his dad was a long time employee.

And if you ask Hines it's not as much a Haley problem as it is a Ben problem.

I don't think it is solely a Haley or Ben problem though both are partly at fault.

I think the main issue has been the turnover at the WR position. It is clear to me that Ben misses Cotchery and Sanders and he and his current receivers are not in sync. Whether it is a timing issue, lack of confidence, miscommunication or something else I do not know but they better figure it out quick.

Wow. Had to go down to the 6th page to find the Steelers thread. Are the Steelers on a bye this week or are they playing on MNF?

Looks like Tuitt is going to make his first start at DE tonight. I think it is about time though the bad news is that Cam Thomas is sliding over to NT. Keisel is also on expected to see limited action tonight.

Gilbert and Beachum are going to have their hands full with JJ Watt tonight. I wonder watt the over/under is for sacks for JJ -- I am thinking it is gotta be around 4. I just hope Ben knows he can't stand back there and hold the ball all day. I'm really concerned about Ben coughing up the ball tonight.

As good as Watt is the rest of the Texans defense isn't playing very well. If Ben gets a little time he could do some damage against that secondary. The Texan's run defense isn't so good either so Bell and Blount could have big nights.

Speaking of crappy run defenses, Arian Foster is probably licking his chops after watching tape of the Steelers defense.

The weather is calling for rain in the 2nd half tonight so it could get a little sloppy tonight.

Most everyone is predicting the Steelers to lose on MNF for the first time at Heinz field and the first time since 1991 and I don't blame them. The Steeles are struggling in all three phases of the game and have been taking a ton of penalties. There is absolutely no good reason to think they can suddenly put it together tonight, especially playing against a team that has had 10 days to prepare for them. In short, the Steelers stink.

So just to be different I'll go out on a limb and call for a Steelers victory: 24-23.

I just want to see something to look forward to the rest of the season and going into next year. Specifically, it would be nice to see a good performance by the O-line and the coaching staff make adjustments in the 2nd half. I expect Ben and the receivers to play much better this week. I'm not sure what to expect from the defense. I think they're just not very good.

This team is enough to drive you bat #### crazy. Division didn't show well this weekend but Baltimore seems to be the class. The inconsistencies have to stop as does the cutesy #### in the red zone.

Bryant made a nice little splash in his debut. McCullers not so much. Nice to see Heyward-Bey get some snaps considering Wheaton has gone into a funk. Dri Archer still a wasted pick if he's only going to get 3 snaps a game. Shaq Richardson got an injury settlement so another wasted pick. Also nice to see Ross Ventrone making plays, he worked hard to finally get a shot.

What a turn around. Call me Pony because I'm a little hoarse after screaming last night. It was nice to see the Steelers defense get a few turnovers and the red zone offense pick up a couple TDs but this team is still very shaky.

Adams seemed to play well enough when Gilbert went out.

Big test the next 2 weeks. If they can win 1, especially the Baltimore game, the Steelers could salvage this season.

On the other hand if the Ravens beat the Bengals this week and the Steelers next week, the division will be theirs.

I couldn't believe it during that crazy 3 minute span, the cheering was essentially non-stop. But I think that overshadowed the problems we still clearly have. We got a lot of turnovers which was key, and we were able to extend drives due to Texans penalties.

The play calling was still very suspect at times (Some of the runs into the line and that Bryant throw near the end) and the defense was like a sieve for a while. But one thing we did a fantastic job on was penalties. We hardly had any compared to recent games!

Also, interesting how even when Allen "isn't starting" he still manages to give up most of the big plays of the night.

The best play was one by McCullers in the 4th Quarter with the Texans driving. He puts his hands on the center and drives him back 12 yards... right past Fitzpatrick. He just needs to learn how to shed a block at the right time. His strength is something we can definitely use as I rarely saw him driven back at all. He just needs to get a little more quickness and some more moves to use against linemen so that he can take up double teams regularly. Could be great in the future.

I thought the 3 or 4 times I noticed Hodor I thought he looked good, dominating his man or holding ground on a double team. Obvious polish is still needed but I think it was a success for his debut.

Bryant with the good showing appears to mean the end of playing time for JBrown, barring an injury.
Hopefully, Wheaton.
I disagree here. Wheaton has looked lost but keep in mind this is his seventh career start. He has a lot of room to grow before we pull the plug on him.

I think that Wheaton, Brown, and Bryant could all turn out to be good WRs. Brown has had some mental errors, as has Wheaton, but they've also been asked to do more than just limited plays specifically designed for them to be involved, a la Bryant. Brown has shown flashes and Wheaton seems very talented, just somehow not on the same page as Ben.

If Brown could hold on to the football, Wheaton can get on the same page as Ben, and Bryant can continue to learn more of the playbook then we could have an awesome corp.

DHB has had bad hands forever, thinking that he'll be a consistent receiver is a mistake. Even when he was out on the Hands team he couldn't hold on to the ball...

That brought up a story from Craig Woofley this morning.

Noll looking for guys for the hands team: Wolf, how are your hands? Wolf: suspect!

We actually have a pretty favorable schedule still, even if we seem to manage to screw up winnable games.

If we can beat the Colts OR the Ravens, let alone both, we have a decent shot at the playoffs. If we lose to 1 of them we'll be sitting at 5-4 with the Jets, Titans, Saints, Bengals, Chiefs, and Falcons coming up. All of those are winnable games and if we can manage to only screw up 2 games we're 10-6. I think that gets us into the playoffs this year. Ideally at the expense of the Bengals. I think the AFC North and AFC West each send 2 teams and if we can beat the Chiefs then it will be us and the Chargers headed to the playoffs!

**Wishful thinking... More likely is we keep winning 1, losing 1 and play our way to 8-8 and a pick in the 14-18 range.

Lot of "ifs" but I need to see MUCH MUCH more consistent play in all facets of the game before I think this team has a run in them. If they somehow beat Indy, I'll start to believe a little. If they get dominated (which I think is a very possible outcome), I won't be any more convinced that this team is good than what I was before Houston. I guess all of those games are winnable but with how bad the Steelers have looked many times this year, all of those games are potential losses as well.

i think tunes will change once the Colts pimp slap the Steelers this weekend. Luck will tear apart this secondary. Lock of the year: take the Colts -3. And I am a Steelers homer. What are neutral observers calling for?

Yeah facing Luck is a little different than facing Fitzpatrick, eh? The Colts are also clicking on all cylinders right now. I'm not sure how we can beat them

After an 0-2 start the Colts are playing really well. They play better at home though and Houston was able to put up 28 against them 2 weeks ago. The Steelers are likely going to need to put up 30+ pts to win. It is a long shot but let's hope we get Lucky and pull out a victory.

Steelers 33, Colts 30

Play the short game. Release everyone in short patterns and hit those for minimal gains but enough to keep the chains moving. When the Colts adjust to that, hit them deep with Bryant and Brown. As for defending them, I got nothing.

Next Sunday night is HUGE now. I think we can win this one at home in prime time.
Yeah at this point I'm not convinced that the Steelers stink anymore. They'll give up a lot of points but if they can play bend but not break defense, the offense is good enough to beat most teams in the AFC. With how bad they've looked at times, I'll take 5-3.

This was about as good a prediction as I can remember in a while :goodposting:

I despair of trying to understand this team at all. Better off just playing scratch off tickets at this point. Just enjoy the ride Steeler fans.

Good win.

Tampa loss really hurts
It's the NFL #### happens. I keep saying this in this thread. 3 weeks ago the Pats were toast and Seattle were the end all be all. If they just navigate the schedule and get some divisional wins they are still very much in it.

That's the thing. they don't stink. They're not good. They can be either, depending on how the wind blows. Strap in, every week is an adventure.

Bring on the ####birds! :towelwave:

I'm now completely on board with this GB

Pretty sure I was the only one in here predicting a Steelers victory ... Aren't I special?

What a game! Obviously the night belonged to Ben but the o-line did a great job giving him time. Also have to give props to the coaching staff who have been taking it on the chin lately.

Can't wait for Sunday Night!
