 Apple Watch ⌚ (2 Viewers)

I just got mine today. What do you want to know?
Why you chose it over the other options.
Mainly for running. I was going to get a Fitbit or something else, but I liked the feature of putting music on it and running.
I asked why you chose it over the other options....

eta - this answer pretty much fits what I expected.
Explain yourself. What 'options' are you asking for comparison of?
In case I wasn't clear, I am looking for the reason one would buy an iwatch over the other options they surely looked into before purchasing.

The answers I get outside this forum indicate no effort was made to look into other options, so far holding true here.
YOU'VE CAUGHT THEM!!!!!!!!!
Wasn't a trap. I kind of laid this out there a while back.

Apple has killed it with the iwatch because... apple.

eta - I wonder if people even give a damn when features like this were available to them for months at a fraction of the cost?
You still aren't used to it? Move on.

You're asking a question that's been asked of Apple for a decade. Even I once asked it. Apple products will always cost more and do less. Whether they do it better is up for debate.

Billions and billions later...

I didn't look into any other options. I like apple, I have an iPhone and like to run. I've been using my old iPhone as an iPod. It is pretty annoying carrying it while I run. Apple announced the Apple Watch and I had 400 dollars to buy it, so I did. I'm not saying it is the greatest thing ever, but after 2 days I am pretty happy with my purchase.

I own a good chunk of stock, own 7 apple devices.

I will never cease to be fascinated by blind loyalty to anything.. be it watches or religion. When people don't ever question something, at all.. I like to ask why.

So you don't use Map My Run or some other GPS tracking app to map your running and distance?

Yeah, style wise the Urbane kills the Sport, I think that's what Matuski was asking, why the apple watch over something like this? Personally I wouldn't wear an android watch (I own a galaxy one) but I think it makes sense for people to stay in their ecosystem.

Apple watch isn't revolutionary or even special, but finally after all this time Apple users have an option here.

Back ordered to freakin' June? Anybody know if there's a model combo with an earlier ship date?

I do too, which is the brilliance of Apple. Put out a more expensive version of other companies' products and sell boatloads.

I agree.. and I am profiting from it.

A separate discussion from why it works. The psychology is borderline religious.

Which model did you order? You should get it way sooner, either way. I heard the blue band sport watch was shipping extremely early. People were getting June ship dates and got them on day one. Good luck.

Look I wasn't trying to get into a debate about the Apple Watch's worth. Someone asked about it and I said I had one. I would try to answer some questions about the watch if I knew the answers. With all that being said, after two days with the watch I am enjoying it. The battery lasted me all day from 6:45 am until 9:00 pm and I still have about 40% left. I used it all day just mainly to respond to some text and check my email. I took it on a 2.5 mile run and it was nice to have an iPod on my wrist that tracked my HR, pace, and distance. The watch also got a little wet today from the rain but no harm done. They tested the watch and it is a lot more water-resistant than they lead you to believe (it worked perfectly after being at the bottom of a swimming pool for 15 minutes). I really like the activity app on the watch and phone. Other than that I guess it's just an overpriced item that I bought, but I enjoy it. If anyone has any other questions about the watch itself I'll try and answer them the best I can.

No. I have a pretty nice lake I run around with some stations every quarter mile (push-ups, pull-ups, box jumps) so I don't really need to track the distance. I usually go around once or twice and do the stations, it's a mile and a quarter around.

Haven't ordered yet. Figured I could walk into the store, try one on and buy it a few weeks later.

I prefer Stainless Steel.

The brilliance of Apple is that it creates great products that people enjoy using. They have great marketing, but it wouldn't mean anything without great products to back it up. Google makes good stuff too, as do other manufacturers. I'm not sure why every apple product launch has to turn into a pissing match between people who think folks who buy apple products are imbeciles who just buy into marketing and don't know any better, and how there are X number of better products out there.

The watch someone linked to by LG looks good, but I dont' know how it actually works. Odds are, it will work very well with droid phones, and will be somewhat compatible with iPhones...but I'm not surprised someone with an iPhone wouldn't consider a droid smartwatch. Doesn't have anything to do with marketing, and is simply more to do with common sense. Apple puts out good products, I have an apple phone, I'll probably just get an apple watch. Not a big deal, not a bad decision, not a sign of a religious fanatic. The fanatics, seem to me, are like the evangelicals telling everyone else they're going to hell...condemning other folks for different choices. Apple folks don't do that...that's typically reserved for the Droid folks.

When I'm looking for a luxury sports car am I an idiot for not looking at Civics before buying a Ferrari?

They refusal of you anti-Apple guys to admit that Apple products are premium products is far worse than the Apple religiousness that you mock.

Are you talking about the ones that I can't even stick a SD card into?

If Apple was selling Ferraris they would only have 200 hp and tell people it's as good as a Lambo.

Droid Car Owners: Tell me how many HP this car has, what are the features, how many cubic feet of space does it have, what is the time it goes from 0-60 in?

Apple Car Owners: Let me get in the car and see how it performs. I don't care about specs, I want to feel the acceleration, I want to experience what it feels like to drive it. Let me see how responsive it is to my touch, how does it handle?

The irony is that both cars have similar performance, but one is marketed on its specs to people who geek out over that stuff, and the other car is marketed to folks based on what it can do. The apple car would be optimized for usability, whereas the droid car would be optimized to meet benchmarking goals.

I don't own any apple products and have had no interest in purchasing a device I can wear on my wrist to alert me to all of the very important and urgent things going on in my life.

But dammit, the commercials and nonstop promotion of all the pretty and cool people wearing the i watch has piqued my interest. There must be something subliminal in the ads because everytime I see them I start to think how sharp the watch looks and maybe I should convert to the dark side. No shtick, all truth.

the weird thing is that usually tons of people on the board order apple products right when they are released. It doesn't seem anyone on here ordered it outside of a few people.

i realize small sample size but still interesting.

As a lover of all sorts of computers and someone who really tried to love the Microsoft Surface I bought last year, no. Apple computers are far and away better in terms of interface and performance. It's not just a preference thing. As with all their products, it just works, smoothly and without headaches. The surface I bought? God that OS was clunky and jerky and hard to navigate. It didn't work.

The other thing that strikes me is the silly "specs" argument the Apple guys always make. It really is Apples and oranges, because no matter how much more horsepower a comparable windows machine supposedly has, it still runs like crap. It's like an expensive mustang versus a BMW M3 or Audi S5. Yeah the mustang has more horsepower. But, seriously??

Agree. I'm still struggling with whether this interests me. I think battery life is a big issue for me, just sounds like a hassle to have to charge my damn watch every night. Also, I'm a spotify guy for music, this won't help me there I don't think, as it wouldn't let me run without my phone. So it doesn't really do much for me.

Seems true. I'm a preorder phone guy and love it, and Mrs Bats wanted to marry Steve Jobs, she's everything Apple. Although she will, she even waited to order. Now she's asking me what band I like, I told her no thanks put that $500 into the special savings fund we have on the side. I don't need it for anything in particular and I certainly don't need notifications on top of notifications.

Jeez. I was sort of interested in matuskis questions. I use a droid phone but iMac and Ipad. Instead of answers, we get the "you don't understand apple" and "you're an apple hater because you didn't buy the watch blindly!" crap.

Absolutely obnoxious to someone trying to get info on the watch and how it works. All apple products don't "just work". I had a horrible experience with the latest iPhone which is why I now use a droid. But the watch interests me. I usually go right out and buy new tech stuff.

I can try and answer some questions about the watch but I don't really have many answers. I wasn't trying to be rude to Matuski, at all.

The problem is figuring out what questions to ask. Use it to film yourself doing a reviews on it imo. :)

BS. The guy talking about how much better his car is the Android/suped up Honda Civic guy. :lmao: Apple guy doesn't give a #### that his Mercedes S class isn't as fast. It's fast enough, has a smooth ride, and warms his ### on a cold day.
Im not saying its every apple guy...but there is a huge set of Apple guys/girls that look down on anything not an iPhone and have them just because its an iPhone and its the cool thing to have.

THey buy every new product whether they need it or not...just because its apple.

And no offense to the one who bought it to run with...but there are other watches that destroy the apple watch for running and do have on board music and are much more functional.

And just another aside on that...I wouldn't trust the apple watch yet as a true continuous HR monitor.

ETA...I did research apple and other smart watches along with running watches.

Wanted something with music, audio HR alerts, GPS, that could work with or without a phone. For me...the closest thing was Garmin's vivo active (but have to use a chest strap).

TomTom has the better wrist based HR monitor for continuous monitoring. From what I had seen, apple (and several others) have not gotten that right yet.

Ended up deciding I didn't need a smart watch yet and got a watch suitable for running on its own. The though of checking texts and emails on a small screen really didn't take me that much.

I did like the possibilities though (and Garmin with the golf app for distances was pretty cool)

MUCH more functional? At the very least the jury is still out on this one. It only just came out. Developers are surely working on it. Lots of them.

Huh? Aside from apps and what not, how are they going to give it more functions and features after it's released?

Does this thing have GPS in it? I assume that if you wanted to listen to music it'd be via bluetooth?

And no offense to the one who bought it to run with...but there are other watches that destroy the apple watch for running and do have on board music and are much more functional.
MUCH more functional? At the very least the jury is still out on this one. It only just came out. Developers are surely working on it. Lots of them.
Huh? Aside from apps and what not, how are they going to give it more functions and features after it's released?
Not that this is the norm, but I believe the Android Wear's latest update enabled a lot of functionality after its release:

No, it uses the GPS from the phone, which makes it quite inconvenient if you need a watch and phone to track your runs. However, no comparable smartwatch has GPS and a good battery life, so for now, it's a tradeoff.
