Super lame that only 1 horse from the Derby is in this race. If they want horse racing to succeed it needs to be a series like race cars.. force those derby horses barring injury to participate in all 3 legs not just 1 race. It's maddening. Gives the casual viewer nothing to be excited about.. also.. 7 horses? lame. It would be the equivalent of having every major tennis star play at wimbledon, but at the US Open only federer showed up to play for the title while EVERY SINGLE other wimbledon participant didn't show up for the US Open. Why doesn't horse racing understand this?

Gonna be honest this shtick is pretty played out at this point.

Lol yeah I got impatient. Didn't wanna wait til the last minute and they seem to give the other races on the card like 1 minute right before post.

Do we think 2/1 holds up for Mage? Hate betting favorites but seems like it might be a good price for the spot. Crazy that everyone is in single-digit odds.

Baffert factor is getting the public to bet down national treasure. Horse that hasn't won anything but its maiden race is getting as much money as the Kentucky Derby winner.

Put the $5 refund bet on the 3 to win
put $3 on the 6 to win and $1 to place/show
$1 exbox 1-3-6
$1 tribox 1-3-6

$22 invested - let's see if I manage to lose all $22

NATIONAL TREASURE!

textbook strategy by two masters of this game.

talked about it enough this past week, especially pronounced after the scratch of First Mission - put 'em to sleep on the front, deny a hot pace to chew up, then have enough horse left to win a stretch battle.

:24/:49/1:13 splits, give or take a millisecond, and that were all she wrote - Mage never got closer than third, and actually lost ground to NT/B7s coming home ... they had juice left - B7s/Brown did not disappoint.

Bobbo bags his record 8th Preak, and Johnny Vee, surprisingly, only his first - but now he's hit the career triple crown - and what a great career it's been - seeing him & Javi take the first two legs are pretty sweet - great riders, great guys.

say what ya will about Bobbo, but ya just know he wanted this one as bad as any he's ever trained up for - returns to the TC arena and bops the KD winner, denying a TC shot - the ol' sleeper hold, folks - perfect execution.

in other news, i may actually be able to shoehorn into Belmont for the Stakes, and the Secretariat 50th Party - would not even have considered had the TC been on the line - the reno has really squeezed that joint down a bit.

Doesn't mean I'm wrong. I represent the casual fan not the junkie. I watched the race but I don't know how any non gambler non junkie who just watches the 3 main races can get excited about the random horses they threw out there. It's basically like there's only 1 race that matters. Like the tennis equivalent of the French open and us open not even being worthy enough to draw anyone in the top 20 players

now imagine French/Wimby/US Open all played within 5 weeks of each other ...

Those tennis players have to win 7 matches in 14 days to win a title that last 2 to 4 hours each. These horses run one 2 minute race. 5 weeks seems generous. Why is the equine athlete so weak? We make our sprinters run multiple days in a row in the Olympics

Rough weekend. I couldn't hit anything at Pimlico Friday or Saturday. I couldn't figure out those cards for the life of me.

I am giddy for what could be for the Belmont. I just wish there was also a triple crown on the line.

In non Belmont Stakes news, since Saffie is out at Belmont Park, he transferred White Abarrio to,,,,Dutrow. Of course.

BETTIQUETTE 101

were out at the Jersey oater with 'capping buddy earlier today - he's a huge Churchill honk, so we concentrating on just betting said oval.

we get to the 4th race, up about $50 (we pool our monies on days like this), and 2 of the horses scratch, leaving it to be a scant 5 entries.

he is all over the #6, and wants to play a cold 6/2 exacta - i'm very lukewarm on the horse he loves, but he's blagging on about how the barn switch to Cox at Churchill (with Gaf up) is an angle he always looks for.

i much preferred the #7, who just won a 58k MC 6f sprint on this same track 3 weeks ago on Churchill's opening day - Walsh is also a steady barn here, and we got Luis up.

the favorite is the #2, at 2/1, the longest shot on the bored was the #3, at 3/1.

so i go up to the winderr to plunk big win bet on 6, and big cold exacta, 6/2 ... but i really want that effin' 7.

as i'm at the winderr, i notice one of the regulars is ahead of me ... i come out to this jernt a handful of times a year, and i always notice this chomper - he cashes more than most, and i had occasion to chat him up a few times as we were out smoking ... he's sharp.

i don't say anything, 'cuz he's in front of me, and i figured i'd wait until he finished plunking ... so i hear him say "Churchill, race 4, blahblah dollars to win on #7" - and that were all i needed.

i get up, and go in on the 7, basically ignoring what buddy and i agreed upon ... but, eff that, i had a sign from the chomper, and went with my gut.

race goes off ... and, yep, the 6 & 7 dart the eff outta there, pretty much a match race up front, with the 6 doing the heavier lifting (:23/:46 splits, this were a 7f affair) ... 'capping buddy is all like "HA! told you this 6 was gonna wire 'em, now watch the 2 come pick up the exacta!"

at this point he doesn't know about the switcheroo i pulled ... but, hold on, the 6 starts to back up, and is TOTALLY outta gas ... the 7 inhales that mule, and wins by a solid 5+ lengths - with the 2 horse getting second - IT WORKED!

he's kinda bummed, and is NEVER the type to say "i shoulda listened to ya" ... never once has he acknowledged my call over his when mine wins. it are what it are.

i start walking to the winderr, as this 7 horse paid $9.84 to win, and the 7/2 coldie paid close to $16 on the dollar.

it were a f****** haul, i tell ya ... but he's furious with me, and refuses to take anything BUT his initial layout back - says i f***** him royally, and he doesn't want any part of the bullchit i just pulled.

he stormed right the eff out, never looked back ... we've known each other 40 yrs, and this was the biggest blowup we ever had ... i have not tried to contact him, and have zero desire to do so.

THANKS FOR LISTENING.
