11.22.63 - Hulu Original Mini-Series (1 Viewer)

Regarding George and Sadie

I didn't believe for one second that he didn't run right to the internet after coming "home" and find out what became of everyone.

Much better episode.  Wish this were going to be longer and they didn't have to "wrap things up" in 3 more episodes.

So the season finale was yesterday.  As someone that has not read the book, was the mini-series similar to the book?

Mini-Series followed the book quite closely.

When I was 25% through the book I loved it and thought it was gonna be one of the best books Id ever read.

I still ended up liking both the book and the series, but the last quarter of them both were rather underwhelming.

They left out a fair bit...

Jake's work with Mike Koslow, the theater play, the benefit for Sadie after she got cut, a lot of the fallout from Jake killing Oswald, and a fair bit of relationship-building with Sadie

...but none of it was really essential to the storyline. Bill was an addition, but a necessary one to move the story along for TV (otherwise there's a whole lotta Jake inner monologuing).

And yeah, I hated the ending, too.

What is wrong with giving us the happy ending with Sadie, even if she had to be killed first? I mean, what did Jake have in 2016 that would have been worth leaving the 1960's for? His life was in a rutted mess before he went down the rabbit hole. Then he got his rock in Sadie, he liked how life was lived back then, he seemed to be well liked at Jodie High...why not just go back and stay back and leave Oswald and Dunning the heck alone?

I haven't read it, and just watched the first five minutes or so of the final episode, but I think I know this ends.

Will note it later, even if wrong. It would be a Twilight Zone-type twist.

In answer to the last question:

SPOILER?

He was warned (by Time Dude) about what would happen if he tried to selectively change some aspects of the timeline, but not others - he loved her, so had to let her go.

I might do this (ie the 2nd part).
Hulu's a pretty solid service and well worth $8/mo. Casual is a fantastic show. This one is decent though it doesn't totally grab. Sort of the same with Difficult People. Just started The Path with Aaron Paul and it seems promising (moreso than 11.22.63). Either way, they seem to building some steam with their original content. Not as good as Netflix, but as good as Amazon, imo. For both, I'd say they've got one fantastic show (Transparent and Casual), and a host of other generally decent shows that could appeal to a lot of people.

If you haven't seen Happy Endings, btw, don't do a Hulu trial without watching that brilliant series (Community is on there too).

So is it possible to have a second season and expand it like they did with Under The Dome or is it done?
Done with a capital D. There was no followup book to 11/22/63.

See, that seems like a plot device that was tacked on to prevent the happy ending. King's never been one to give us the happy ending because, you know, ART.

It was also mentioned in the book that he'd be five years older, and their ages might make it harder to get together in the first place (I forget what they were exactly, but she was around 28, and he 35 or so)

True, but she seemed awfully into him when they ran into each other in Lisbon.

SPOILER?

It is a story about time travel, so if you have already suspended disbelief that far, and buy into the world and its "laws" built by King, there was ample evidence of "push back" against changes in the timeline. Not a stretch to me to think he might have believed something bad could happen, and not risking that precisely because he loved her too much to take that chance.

A much bigger "happy ending" was allowing Franco to hit the reset button and prevent the inadvertent horrors that were visited upon the alternate timeline in which JFK survived.

Yeah but per Yellow Card Man (that's what he's called in the book) Sadie will always die as a result of Jake staying in the past with her. Different day, different way but his involvement will somehow cause her premature death. As much as he'd like to stay and live out his life in the past with her he comes to grips that leaving her is in her best interests.

just finished - thought it was dragged out and could have been cut down by an episode or 2 but overall i enjoyed it.
