what jackal said. two means just one playoff game. And half the teams making the playoffs devalues them imo.
I completely disagree. We all take ourselves so seriously in here sometimes that we forget why we started in fantasy football - it is FUN.6 teams in a 12 team league rewards the teams that did exceptionally well by giving them a bye, and creates a lot more excitement for the league by giving you a chance to get into the playoffs.

I have seen several wildcard teams in that 5th or 6th spot catch fire in the playoffs and win it all, so I am not sure how that devalues the playoffs - I say it enriches the league and the playoffs.

I see it both ways....as having the best team overall, I think it's great to get a bye (and my league gives money to the overall point leader at the end of the regular season) but then having 50% of the teams make the playoffs feels to NBAish

Yes, it is fun and I think it is more fun when you have more of a challenge, i.e. less than a 50:50 shot of making the playoffs. I think it devalues the playoffs because it is less of a challenge to get there -- and I think it devalues the regular season as well, making your performance for the 1st 13 or so weeks less important. I had the same issue when their was talk of the NFL expanding the number of teams in the playoffs.

We used to do 8 of 12 (top 4 of 6 per division), no bye. 3 round playoffs wk 14, 15, 16. Now we've switched to 6 of 12, with top 2 byes, wk 14 is 2 vs 3, wk 15 winner vs. div winner, wk 16 championship.

6 of 12 with 2 byes is perfect for a dynasty league, because it keeps leagues together longer. I don't think 6 of 12 in a fantasy football league is too many. Half the league still won't make the playoffs, but it does keep teams interested in the league longer.

Now 8 of 12 is ridiculous.

8 of 12 in my redraft and 4 of 8 in my Dynasty

10 of 12 in the redraft are canucks so that is probably why our league is lame. We often have lower rung playoff teams get hot and win the whole thing.

We do 6 teams.

Although I would prefer to only do 4 teams, it's more important to me to have 3 weeks of playoffs than it is to have only 4 teams. Also, I want to reward teams that do well with first week byes. There isn't any way to have three weeks of playoffs and byes with only 4 teams in the playoffs.

Four teams...

BUT...what I've always done is put some relatively small amount of money aside for "Bowl" games between the non-playoff teams during the first week of the playoffs, with small prizes for the winners.

Give those bowls creative names...like match the two worst ppg teams in the "Thank God I'm not the worst" bowl, the two best in the "Just Missed the real playoffs" Bowl.

three divisons of 4 teams...play each division team twice, the others once. Two weeks of playoff games and your SB is in week 16.

In the Phenoms leagues, I think Unlucky pays out to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and total points. It is possible to win total points and still not make the playoffs, so that might be one way to keep more people interested

why is it ridiculous?
8 of 12 really is NBAish.
Hmm. I guess that's one way to look at it. Personally, my big $ league likes it with 8 guys making the playoffs. No byes, if you come out winning, you truly deserved it. It also keeps everyone very active as guys at the bottom can still make the playoffs by getting the #8 seed. More active = more transactions = more money for payouts.
