12-Team Schedule (1 Viewer)

My league is finally making the jump from 10 to 12 teams, yet I am having trouble doing the schedule. I think that we are going to to 3 divisions of 4 teams each. We will have six teams making the playoffs, and do not want the championship in week 17. Thus< I am running into some problems because if I want division opponents to play everyone twice (six games) and then everyone else once (eight games) that is too many weeks (first week of playoffs needs to be week 14 to not have championship in week 17.

Any ideas on how to fit a schedule into a 13 week season?

To meet your goal of having division teams play twice while every other team gets played once, use four divisions of three teams each.

For a given team, 2 x 2 = 4 games vs. division mates + 9 x 1 vs. other teams = 9 games

4 + 9 = 13

Your league playoffs look just like either the AFC or the NFC with four division winners and two wild cards making the playoffs.

Do a double-header.

Selection of that week will be important, as it will emphasize the player production that week (obviously).

I'd go with the final week being the double-header, and probably making both games divisional. That would encourage more league participation (and keep interest up with more teams with playoff chances going into the final week).

If you want to minimize the effect of 1 week being worth more, you should consider 2 more double-headers.

Alternatives include:

1. Two divisions of 6 with 3 double-headers. Sixteen games in 13 weeks.

2. Dropping Week 14 as a playoff week and go with 4 playoff teams.

Whichever you choose, don't double-head any week between 3 and 9. Avoid bye weeks.

Our league is set up the same way.... we run 3 divisions, 4 teams each... BUT our double header is in week 1. I like it that way, because it makes who you draft very important (no add/drops till after week 1), no injures have occured yet and no one wants to start off 0-2 just to get 1st rank on the waivers, so that makes it a lil more important on the waiver wire side of things (we run worst to first waiver system starting after week 1). Having double header in week 13 is interesting to keep people active, but in our league we dont have that problem and I just dont like having a double header so late in the year. My view is get the double header done and out of the way quick..... my 2 cents

3 divisions works great... and then do the double header week... We do it the first week after all the byes weeks are done in the NFL.

Also, we have been doing 3 division games to start the season, and 3 division games to end the season.

2 division, 12 teams dynasty league, 13 game reg season, div winners get 1st rd bye.

XI Schedule

Each team still plays teams within their division twice. Games played outside the division is based upon the standings of the previous year. Weaker teams get an easier 3 game schedule, better teams get a harder 3 game schedule.

1) First place teams play teams 1, 2, and 4 from the other division.

2) Second place teams play teams 1, 3, and 5

3) Third place teams play teams 2, 3, and 6

4) Fourth place teams play teams 1, 4, and 5

5) Fifth place teams play teams 2, 4, and 6

6) Sixth place teams play teams 3, 5, and 6

I have the schedule maker this format if you want it. The 3 games out of div games (listed above), you plug in where you want them. I prefer scheduling the 3 out of div games to be played during weeks where there are byes. PM if you are interested in this format.

This deviates from how many times you want teams to play each other, but I've really come to love this set up.

12 team league. 3 divisions of 4. Teams play their division 4 times and everyone else twice. Division games consist of triple-headers (you play everyone in your division) weeks 1, 2, 11 and 12. During the NFL bye weeks (3-10) you play double-headers against non-division teams. (I know, week 10 is no longer a bye.)

You still have weeks 13-15 for your playoff (including the top 2 seeds having a bye) and are done before any NFL teams start resting players. It also makes the end of the season pretty intense as you have 6 division games in those 2 weeks, which keeps a lot of teams in the playoff hunt right until the end.
