14 Killed in Shooting in San Bernardino (1 Viewer)

The police were on the house where they chased the Black SUV from real quick.

I don't remember the exact time span, but no way they identified them forensically in that amount of time.

Makes me think that someone at the original crime scene was able to identify one of them(more likely) or possibly a neighbor saw the description of the vehicle or knew one of them had ties to that center... And called in a tip.

This wasn't dumb luck or matching a bullett/fingerprint in an hour or however long the the timeframe was.

CO Springs has instantly been fast-tracked to yesterday's news status. Paris is virtually forgotten.

Can't we just start one thread for mass shooting/terrorist attack of the week? So sad.

Suspect ID'd in San Bernardino Massacre as Syed FarookSyed Farook is one of three suspected gunmen who attacked a center for the disabled, killing 14 and injuring more on Wednesday.
CORONA, CALIFORNIA — Law enforcement officials have identified Syed Farook as one of the suspected shooters who attacked a center for the disabled in San Bernardino, California, according to NBC News. The Daily Beast has learned that the police have just executed a search warrant at a Redlands, California address—an address that belongs to Farook’s family.

Authorities identified a possible suspect as Syed Farook and another as possibly his brother.
- NBC

- Daily Beast and NBC now reporting this. My stupid Columbo routine notwithstanding.

i believe the police press conference said they got a tip to go to that Redlands town to do a sweep of the area and they showed up in the the SUV and all hell broke loose...something like that

Oh, and we need a daily summary. I don't have the energy to read 16 pages on this mass shooting, just to hear the same actors arguing the same ####. What makes this one any different from all the rest?

...Farook was a business taxes representative for the California State Board of Equalization, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is a 2003 graduate La Sierra High School, and most recently studied finance at California State University Fullerton until 2013.

Records show Farook bought a two bedroom Corona home in March 2014. Farouk’s social media profile shows he is married and has at least one young child. His wife did not return messages left on Wednesday.

Farook lived at a home with his wife and children in Corona, California. The Daily Beast knocked on the home's door and was met by who said, “My name is Farook.” When asked if he knew Sayed, the man said, “Of course I know him but I have nothing to say.” When asked about Syed being named as a suspect, he said, “I have nothing to say.”

Behind Farook, was a brightly lit home with low-slung sectional couches and boxes for appliances. The smell of basmati rice cooking came wafting through the door. A set of women’s thong sandals outside of the security door.

Five minutes after he answered the door, Farook got into a white car and drove away, answering questions again with, “I have nothing to say.”

Syed Farook worked as a health inspector, they were on him right away somehow

If this is correct as Daily Beast and NBC are now reporting, I think I need to apologize for making light of it.

I also need to turn on MSNBC now.
MSNBC seems much further ahead today
MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell said NBC is reporting a second suspect is Farook's brother.

@latimes: Police say Farook "was acting nervous" prior to the #SanBernardino shooting. http://lat.ms/1HGEZDS
Public records show a person named Syed R. Farook was employed by the San Bernardino County Health department as an environmental health specialist, but it was not clear if that was the same person involved in the shooting.

...Police tracked the alleged assailants to a home in the Redlands around 3 p.m., touching off a dramatic televised car chase that ended in a shootout on the streets of San Bernardino, according to city police chief Jarrod Burguan.

...

A senior federal official who is monitoring the case said investigators believe one of the shooters left the party after getting into an argument and returned with one or two armed companions. Local officials at an evening news conference said it was not clear whether the people involved in the dispute were the same people involved in the shooting.

The shooters carried long guns and wore masks when they opened fire around 11 a.m. in a large conference room where San Bernardino County health department employees were gathered, according to witnesses and officials.

In an exchange overheard on a law enforcement radio channel, an official can be heard telling a dispatcher Farook "was at the meeting," referring to where the shooting took place, and then left "out of the blue."

Farook "was acting nervous" and left the building approximately 20 minutes before the gunfire erupted, according to the recorded transmissions.

...Burguan said that at least one device that police believed to be an explosive was recovered at the center, where authorities were expected to remain for several hours. Earlier in the day, a federal law enforcement official told The Times that a robot had been used to dispose of a potential explosive device.

...
- I think the LAT has been editing and updating this.

Brian Williams must have been in one of the cop cars

This seems way over the line to me given what we know at this time.

Not great writing. I also love the little detail about the smell of basmati wafting through the door...

I'm guessing that's his brother or a brother who answered...

Who would ever want to shoot people at a developmental disability center? I just don't understand it.

Whoa! I lived in Corona too! Does basmati rice smell much different than, say, a jasmine or even a calrose?

msnbc seems pretty far ahead naming names and with notes from local new sources who probably have better inside information right now to me
Gotta be confusing with all that constantly logging into and out of the shtick account and the main account, this kind of thing is bound to happen on occasion.

The San Bernardino PD is excellent.
That's why it was the meth capital of the US.
Whoa where has this guy been?
San Bernardino has drugs, gangs and Hell's Angels. Pretty confident it isn't an ISIS stomping ground.
:goodposting: It's bro central.
I was referring to Rover's absence in here, but carry on.
I think we all got that. Your quote got caught up in the general discussion.

seems like most deaths occurred in that room where the party was being held on the 2nd floor?

Any news on how many were in that room/how many survived?

Ok one more.

- LAT

- Given the above, that the attackers had planted an explosive device at the center, to me, that sounds like terrorism. That sounds like they wanted a delayed explosion that would hurt first responders when they showed up. Maybe you could say this was workplace anger or violence, but bringing in two other persons into this and all the obvious training and preplanning and equipping, just seems like plain terrorism.

We all know that the feds will get into the Farooks' computers, and then what they will or won't find there will probably tell the tale.

I believe that can effectively be taken to the bank, or donated to the Wounded Warriors foundation. Your choice, my brother in arms.

The local LA newspaper someone posted a link to said that Farook was only gone from the party 20 minutes before the shooting started. If that is true, it was pre-planned and the other two were probably already there with him.

Soooo.... what are they saying? Don't offer public condolences? After Col. Springs they were in trouble for not offering sympathy for the victims. Now they're in trouble for offering sympathy for the victims. Ok.
They didn't say anything over Colorado Springs because the shooting was at Planned Parenthood, which made it a harder political issue for them.
