a couple of weeks ago, while moving an old antique dresser that had been in the family for several generations, I found a 1883 US silver dollar wedged beneath one of the drawers. That was pretty cool

If it is an 1883 S it could be worth up to 500.00

I believe it's an O. and it has lots of tarnish.

Well the best O is worth about 40.00 . I would think you can clean the tarnish off without affecting the finish.

Do NOT in any way shape or form clean off that coin. You will ruin any colectable value to the coin.

I was in San Fran 4 years ago and got 4 quarters to use the BART. 2 of them were pre 64. I ended up dumping in $15 of bills and walked away with 20 silver quarters. It sucked walking around with the change but that was a nice little windfall.

i know a guy who basically lives at the dump looking for rich stuff in garbage that the folks from the good side of the tracks throw away he says he finds a lot of stuff and hey at the end of the day you are hanging out at the dump i guess that is all i can say about it take that to the dump bromigos

Old recliners from the sixties can hold handfuls of silver coins that spilled out of pockets and got lost in the chair, when I was a kid I remember my mom bought an old chair from a rummage sale just because it was full of silver coins, she filled a coffee cup with silver coins and there was a gold ring in there too. Those pre 1970 recliners are like old slot machines making a junkyard like a casino with no security.

Ok, so I have been trying to pay a little more attention when counting down drawers the past few days at work, as I have discovered every coin from before 1960 is worth about $0.50 - 1.00 on eBay.

The only problem being that the profit of selling these coins is eaten up up the cost of a stamp. Unless you sell them in a lot of course. I am going to try someone to sell these coins to locally though and think I can make an extra $15 - 20 a month, barring getting extremely lucky and finding something notably old.

1941 is the oldest I've found so far, a nickel today and the dime from when I started this thread.
