This won't be the last song of this type taken
Totally going to pigeon hole my self into a corner and go with all Breeezy and Cheezy, Catchy, Pop Tunes for my Individual Year Songs.

That said, my 1970 entry is :drumroooooooooooll:.........  I think I love you by the Partridge Family

I am a big fan of David's remake of a very cool 60s song also ...

:goodposting:  I have some coming up.
cool - I almost wish we closed out songs with albums. Zep IV gets picked? No stairway.

By the way - since this is a 70s music draft - Sirius XM's 70s channel is playing Casey Kasem's American Top 40 from this week in 1979.
They do this every Saturday, I think - my wife and I are usually out and about, and listen to it in the car. Excellent stuff.

Locally, we have one terrestrial radio station that plays a 1970s Top 40 countdown every Saturday morning, and another that plays a 1980s Top 40 twice each weekend

Nice. Very nice. Hadn't figured out how to do this yet.

18.12: "I Love Rock 'n Roll", Joan Jett with Steve Jones & Paul Cook  [link1] [link2] (punk/post-punk song)

Joan Jett originally recorded and released a cover of The Arrows' "I Love Rock 'n Roll" on Vertigo Records two years before the 1981 release of her I Love Rock 'n Roll album with the Blackhearts. Her 1979 version of "I Love Rock 'n Roll" was the B-side of Vertigo 6198 264, which was released in Western Europe in 1979 and available in North America as an import.

Jett pursued a solo career in England in 1979 after the dissolution of her first band The Runaways. Her first solo project was a three-song recording session with the quieter half of the Sex Pistols, guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook. Jett had seen The Arrows U.K. television program a few years earlier, was taken with their performance of "I Love Rock 'n Roll", and decided to record a cover version.

Oooo good find.  I had wanted to pick this, saw 1981 and didn't bother to look further

19.11: "Devil's Gun" - CJ & Company (1977 song)

I could have waited until Tim stopped posting here (in other words, forever) to take this without fear of getting sniped, but #### it. This song is dumb as hell, but in a good way. It's like if The Who and Chic made a record together - chock full of hooks, drama for days, rip-off of "Sympathy For The Devil"'s guitar solo......you name it; there ain't an original note to be found anywhere. I had this on 8 track, wore it the hell out, and feel not one iota of shame.

Full Version (no performance)

But what REALLY puts this over the top for me is the (radio edit) performance video. I mean, I don't even know what to say about this. It's like Liza Minelli and Liberace produced a Trammps video. Seriously, this has to be seen to be believed.

My God, who dressed these folks?

Girl Of My Dreams - Bram Tchaikovsky (1979 song)

wherein our heroes crafted one of the great power pop tunes of all-time ... swept into relative obscurity by the tsunami that was "My Sharona" in the summer of '79, but i'll be mutha ####### damned if i didn't INSIST that "hey, we oughtta listen to these guys, instead!!1111!"

hopefully everyone is in with their '79 album choice, cuz i gotta spotlight "Strange Man/Changed Man", the platter this was included on ... as deep as '79 was, it remains one of my absolute favorites of that year - wore that sumb!tch OUT, with extreme prejudice     the power pop hooks are infectious, and stay crunchy as all hell in milk   :D

BONUS FACTOID/OPINION: the further i get away from summer of '79, the more i am absolutely certain that Judy (the 'girl' in question here) is actually a blow-up doll  :excited:

(score one for the lads here, subversive message wrapped in jangling chord brilliance)

18. Afternoon delight, Starland vocal band 1976 song (change reaper to classic rock song) Better version

Since the original song's release, many works have alluded to or even featured "Afternoon Delight" or its suggestive lyrics, often ironically. Among them have been Cocktail("Kokomo", sung by The Beach Boys), Glee(where it was mistaken for being a song about the dessert Angel Delight), Get a Life ("Chris Wins a Celebrity"), Good Will Hunting, PCU,Boogie Nights, Lost, The Rules of Attraction,The Spirit of '76, Starsky & Hutch, ER ("No Strings Attached", sung by Abby), Arrested Development (as part of a plot point in the episode "Afternoon Delight"), The Simpsons("The Fat and the Furriest"), Rules of Engagement, Sports Night, Complete Savages("Teen Things I Hate About You"), Ugly Betty,Family Guy, Malcolm in the Middle, South Park("Miss Teacher Bangs a Boy"), Murphy Brown,Entourage, Warehouse 13 (Season 2 Episode 8), and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

The song was used by ABC for its afternoon programming block in the late 1970s.

On the December 7, 2013, episode of Saturday Night Live, as part of the opening monologue, comedian and host Paul Rudd performed a portion of the song a cappella with boy band musical guest One Direction, Will Ferrell, David Koechner, and Steve Carell---in a fashion similar to the song in Anchorman---to promoteAnchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

I would've made it about 15 seconds through that song if I had to listen to it on the radio. That repetitive bass beat is what drives me nuts about disco. having said that, and seeing the video, I have to admit...THAT was ####### awesome!! :jawdrop:

Look at the bass player's hair! Is it a wig? It can't be, right?

19.xx - O-o-h Child - The Five Stairsteps - 1970 song

I can't say enough about it, so I'm speechless. Awesome song. Had this one for the whole draft. Maybe Eeph, Uruk, or Simey can give a proper write-up. I just...I've always loved this song, Guardians of The Galaxy notwithstanding.

Five Stairsteps, but yeah - this is a cool song. It's sort of timeless and one of those records that everyone loves, no matter their age or demographic.

I'm too lazy to look it up to see if I'm recalling correctly, but I don't remember them having another hit.

19.xx - Paul McCartney and Wings - Band on the Run - 1973 Album

Pleasantly surprised to find this still out there to close out my albums - welcome to the squad with your best album, Sir Paul.

19.xx - Strange Way - Firefall (1978 song)

This is one of my favorite songs from the 70s. Firefall was a band that formed in Colorado, and the core members were Rick Roberts (Flying Burrito Brothers), Jock Bartley (Gram Parson's Fallen Angels), Michael Clarke (The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers), Mark Andes (Spirit), Larry Burnett, and David Muse.

Always really liked this song. It's a good example how the kids of the 60's grew up and took singing about sex out of the counter-culture and into the mainstream.

Love this song. I guess it's classified as "soft rock" but it's got a bit of an edge to it, too.

19. Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic (1974 Album)

I really wanted Aja, but I got sniped early on. This one's pretty good too. And just to add, looking throughh the albums of '74... comparatively not a great year for music.

I was thisclose to taking it for my '73 album. Nice pick.

If you have to have one Steely Dan album, I'm not so sure you getting sniped on Aja was a bad thing. This is a really, really good record; I think it's their best and had the best version of the band on it.

I think it was Eephus a few pages ago who mentioned how good 70s records still sound. This could be Exhibit A for that argument.

Yeah, I immediately edited. Sort of tired and, um, compromised at this point in the day.

Going to see these guys with Steve Winwood at Bethel Woods in two weeks - can't wait. Steely Dan is great, and I agree - this record really represents their classic sound.

Agreed. I'm sure most Dan fans have their personal favorites. Probably would have taken Gaucho over Pretzel Logic, but it was released in January 1980.
